A sunny week in Ventnor

  • 4 of 5

We loved the fact that this house feels homely and comfortable. Some comments in the visitors' book objected to the age of appliances; we would much rather have old appliances that work brilliantly than new-fangled complicated things that don't. It is homely and comfortable rather than gleaming and pristine, which is just the thing for a relaxing holiday.Lack of wi-fi is also reflected in the reasonable price.

The house is incredibly well-equipped. Our only comment on the appliance front would be that the frig was big enough for us two - just - but we would have struggled for frig-space if we had been a family.

We had a very hot week and found that we could get good through-draughts by opening doors and windows - it works well in this way, though I imagine the top bedroom would be hard to cool down. We can't comment on how the house copes in a cold snap!

Our stay from 28 th September to the 5th October.

  • 3 of 5

We really enjoyed staying in Ventnor and St. Catherine's view provided a very quiet, well situated cottage for us to explore the island.

However, there were some issues. The front door was very difficult to lock from the outside and the back door was completely stuck and couldn't be opened at all without fear of damage.

It was clear to us the the rubbish bins hadn't been taken round for collection for a while, leaving them full to the brim and very smelly.

The light switches in the lounge and the kitchen were situated across the rooms so that you had to walk to them in the dark in order to turn them on. Two way switches would be helpful. There seemed to be no evidence that the electrical appliances had been PA T tested.

The porch area, which is gives the first impression, was untidy, grubby and had a collection of old and new junk mail, some of it on the floor.

Whilst the easy chairs weren't uncomfortable, it would have been nice to have had some cushions.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post this review, your feedback is appreciated and very important to ourselves and the owners. We endeavor to improve the accommodation on offer and the visitor experience. We take the cleanliness and of all our accommodation very seriously and need to receive notification of any issues that occur at the outset so we can remedy them speedily. We have maintenance staff on call to deal with any problems encountered. Although it is not a legal requirement to PAT test appliances we do have a record of regulatory administration ie: EPCS, smoke detector and gas safety certificates annual update to ensure guest safety. The other points raised will be forwarded to the owner. We are glad you enjoyed the island and hope you returned home safely

Small house overlooking the sea

  • 4 of 5

This is a loveable little house overlooking the sea, but it is in a town, and your view includes car parks. The light is beautiful and you can hear the sea at night. Loads of places to eat out at night if you want to, but we enjoyed cooking in the cottage, kitchen is basic but well set out. Lovely room at the top of the house with sea view. We'd love to come back.

August in Ventnor

If you're looking for a delightfully positioned and reasonably priced property this is for you. Old fashioned property no wifi .... like staying in an elderly relatives home.

Car: not necessary

Ventnor is famous for its warm microclimate. The part sand, part shingle beach is great for sunbathing and swimming. Pubs, cafes and restaurants are dotted along the seafront as is the unique Isle of Wight shaped paddling pool. The Cascade leads up to the town, which is built on a series of zigzag terraces and steeped in history. There are friendly souvenir shops as well as delicatessens and convenience stores. Enjoy some peace and quiet in the tranquil Botanic Gardens, a 22-acre sub-tropical paradise. Heading west is one of the Island's hidden gems, Steephill Cove. All around Ventnor you'll find beautiful walks with dramatic viewpoints.

The Isle of Wight famous for its superb beaches, dramatic coastlines and outstanding natural beauty, the Island is a holiday haven with something for everyone. From secluded coves and wide expanses of sandy beaches it's not just the stunning landscapes that attract visitors to the Island, but the variety of things to see and do. Rich in a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities, visitors return year after year to enjoy another holiday with Home from Home Holidays. Self-catering is the most popular option because it is both cost effective and offers flexibility with the freedom to come and go as you please.
