About the property

Beautiful 6 bed, 5 bath Chateau with pool set in splendid vineyards

La Mouleyre is a stunning Chateau set in 3 acres of beautiful grounds surrounded by some of the world famous vineyards and Chateaux of St Emilion. Positioned at the head of a lovely small valley it has exquisite views over the tranquil landscape of the surrounding vineyards to the hills of the Dordogne River.

This charming retreat is in the heart of wine country, just 7km from the UNESCO World Heritage medieval village of St Emilion. It is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy and from which to explore the many pretty villages and historic towns of the area and experience wine tastings at the most iconic chateaux.

Built in 1602, it was Chateau La Mouleyre ( St Emilion Grand Cru ) until the vines were sold to the neighbouring Chateau Faugeres and the house, barn, chais (wine aging cellar) and grounds were purchased in 2008.

Renovated sympathetically so it retains all the original charm into a beautiful country retreat, its 17th century origins are evident. La Mouleyre is a fine stone structure which has been furnished with an uncompromising approach to comfort.

About Terry Mackay

Originally from Canada, I have lived in London since 2001. I work as a Management Consultant in the UK, Europe and globally.

Terry Mackay purchased this chateau / country house in 2008

Why Terry Mackay chose Sainte-Colombe

Was attracted by the tranquil beauty of the setting---and the challenge of bringing new life to property with excellent pedigree but which had been neglected. Transforming it has allowed the integration of thoroughly modern facilities into a wonderful old structure and the incorporation of many original features.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Beautiful traditional house in a great location; now thoroughly modernised with excellent facilities------and from May 2018 a heated swimming pool.

Superb Chateau!

  • 5 of 5

WOW! Where to begin... This is such a great property! I am so happy I was able to find this and book it for my family. Usually photos look better than the actual place. Well this is the opposite! This place is stunning!

The proprietor(Terry Mackay)has done an absolutely amazing job in transforming this old chateau into a stellar property. The kitchen is spacious and a great central gathering place. All the bedrooms are also spacious and include loads of charm. Especially the area on the third level. Beautiful exposed beams and massive limestone walls. Radiant floor heating on the first level makes such a large space fell comfortable. Two large fireplaces bookend the main level. I might add the Terry setup both fireplaces before he left.

Such a gracious and accommodating host! Terry spent the better part of an hour showing us everything the Chateau had to offer. Everything. Bikes, Ping Pong table, etc...He was also available to answer any questions and left detailed instructions and recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area. We unfortunately missed using the pool and it was under construction while we were there. But I can only imagine how wonderful and relaxing it will be to soak in the pool while sipping on an adult beverage taking in the picturesque expanse of vineyards and surrounding area.

I hosted my family who live close by in Bordeaux and Bergerac. We had a full house. 11 adults and 8 children and it still felt like there would be room for more.

This place is great for families or couples! A grocery store(E.Leclerc) is located less than 10 minutes away. As well as the city of St. Emilion. Bergerac is 47 kilometers away and Bordeaux is less than an hour.

I can't imagine how you could not enjoy and love this property. Book this place now. You will not regret it. The secret will get out soon and it will be hard to rent.

I really can't say enough great things about this place! Thanks so much Terry for your hospitality! We absolutely loved our time at your place and wished we could stay forever!

The perfect chateau

  • 5 of 5

Exquisite. We were so charmed by the property that we did not want to leave to see the sights for which we had picked it. The gardens were picture perfect. We just waited for the next meal so that we could dine in a different location. The inside was very comfortable with lots of large bedrooms. The dining room with the fireplace was lovely. My mother wants to stay for a month next time!
