About Pam Smith

Pam is a retired commercial real estate broker and husband, Lance, is a retired Herff Jones executive. Having met at the University of Florida, they always wanted to move back to the Gainesville area. They bought the property from good friends and next door neighbors in 2007 and built the Main Lodge as a full time dream residence in 2011. They have enjoyed entertaining friends and family and decided to open the Lazy Turtle Lodge to guests who appreciate the simplicity and beauty of Mother Nature.

Pam Smith purchased this mobile home in 2007

Why Pam Smith chose Florida

The Lazy Turtle Lodge, appropriately named so because of the many sun loving, lazy turtles that make the Santa Fe River their home, is a 10 acre estate that housesTurtle Heaven - a shabby chic trailer and Turtle Palace, a cozy 28' Cardinal RV and the newly built full time residence of the owners, the Lodge. The beauty of this wooded oak, pine and cypress hammock on the edge of the Santa Fe River, a unique spring fed river captured the owners' heart and everyone that visits agrees that it is a little bit of heaven on earth.

What makes this mobile home unique

Whether you like to paddle (kayak, canoe, paddleboard), float, fish, swim, cave dive, bird watch, or simply feast your eyes on Mother Nature's art, the Lazy Turtle Lodge is the plac to come. Tranquility, peace, birds, deer, otter, oak hammocks, cypresses, spanish moss, jumping fish and a beautiful flowing river make this a unique and special place to catch one's breath.

Safe Haven!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, daughter, and I had to evacuate Jacksonville during Hurricane Matthew and Pam and Lance were so accommodating! Staying at turtle heaven helped all of us to relax as much as during this unknown outcome of Hurricane Matthew.

We will definitely be back for a relaxing weekend!

My getaway place for quiet and relaxation

  • 5 of 5

This place is so relaxing for me, a quiet setting on the woods and just a short walk to the river. I was close to meet up with other kayakers and then dinner later.

Perfect getaway for nature lovers !!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay with Pam and Lance!! We love the outdoors and This rental gave us the perfect mix of the river and the woods! During the day we kayaked the river, and spent our evenings sitting on our porch or taking a walk on and around the property. We lost count of the deer..Very quiet and peaceful! The outdoor shower is a must !!! We highly recommend Alice's Diner for breakfast and The Great Outdoors for dinner. Have to give a shout out to Doug and Chris at Rum 138. They were extremely accommodating with our kayak rentals. They dropped them off at the house for us, picked us up when we needed a ride, and were very knowledgeable about the river and the surrounding area. We would rate this experience a 10 !!! Can't wait to go back!! Joe and Holly

Beautiful quiet relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose your place to celebrate our 15th anniversary and to get some much needed r&r! We are so pleased with our time in Turtle heaven! From the quaint peaceful setting inside of turtle heaven to the beautiful river bank to the quaint little town of High Springs, we couldn't have asked for a better setting to get away! We were sorry we missed meeting the owners but Julie stepped up to the hosting plate and knocked it out of the park! She was so sweet and helpful! We took the advice of renting a canoe from Rum 138, which just added to our amazing experience! Thank you for sharing your paradise with us we look forward to returning! Oh, outdoor shower was Ahhhhhhmazing!!

Peaceful and serene

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time. We got to relax on the river. We saw so many turtles, more than I have ever seen in my life! One afternoon while driving onto the property we saw a family of deer. We loved hanging out by the fire pit and roasting marshmallows, relaxing in the hammock, and grilling out on the porch. This was one of our favorite vacations! Thanks for such a fabulous experience!

Relaxing place to stay conveniently on the Santa Fe River

  • 5 of 5

We chose this place to be able to kayak from their shoreline, it was perfect. The outfitter at Rum 138 provided shuttle service to return us to Turtle Heaven at the end of our float down the river. But we were also able to paddle up and down river as far as we felt like right from the shores of Turtle Heaven. The weather was great so we enjoyed 3 sunsets on their dock watching the birds and turtles, had a frog chorus one night.

Our lodgings were more that great, very comfortable and clean, spacious. Our hosts were very gracious and friendly, there if we needed them and gave us privacy as well. I feel like by chance I found a special place to stay.
