Mumbles is the gateway to the Gower peninsula, 19 miles long and the first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK. This makes it a perfect base for walking and other activity breaks. Closer to the cottage are three easily accessible beaches popular for family holidays. The village boasts a 12th century castle offering fabulous views from the ramparts. Mumbles Pier has an amusement arcade as well as a lifeboat house and RNLI museum.

It is also possible to explore parts of Pembrokeshire in a day using the cottage as a base. Wales has had a complete coastal path for the last three years and walks can be planned east or west of the area. For example, six miles along the promenade is the city of Swansea with its many visitor attractions.

Great location for a family holiday

  • 4 of 5

The property is well equipped with a good sized kitchen, and with a good washing machine you can afford to pack lighter or not worry about kids getting mucky on the beach.

The stairs are relatively steep, and with the toilet / bathroom downstairs you may want to keep and eye on little ones who might need help going to the toilet in the night / early morning - our near 4 year old was a bit nervous.

Great location for either the main strip (5 mins down hill) or nearest sandy beaches (15 mins with a buggy) - walking time, no real need to take the car.

Parking off street is a real bonus.

Comfortable and homely

  • 5 of 5

We loved the situation of the cottage, in a quiet area yet just a few minutes from shops, eating places, sea front and coastal path. Great cooking facilities, comfy furniture, and plenty of space for two year old granddaughter to run around. A very enjoyable stay.

Well equipped but very cramped location.

  • 4 of 5

Cottage is cosy but outside it is like a miners village. No view, no garden, overlooked by neighbouring properties. One big downside for us was the downstairs toilet. This is not mentioned in the property description. Lots of nice local walks and numerous eating places within short walking distance.

Owner's Response: The cottage does have a garden. Part of it is paved for car parking and the other half is decking with a table and four chairs. This arrangement is quite standard for a holiday let where gardens are designed to be as trouble free as possible. Downstairs bathrooms are also a regular feature in converted terrace cottages. Oystermouth used to be a fishing village. The mining industry was many miles away in the valleys.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the cottage - much bigger than expected. Warm and cosey with very comfortable matresses and very good shower. Beautiful beaches in 'bays' dotted along the coast line - scenic routes by car and some by foot. Rhossili, the most photographed place in the UK, is only 40 mins away by car. Mumbles village, with beautiful views of the sea and beach, has two small supermarkets, pubs and plenty of places to eat. Hope to return!
