West Coast Florida’s Best Kept Secret: Little Gasparilla Island:
Located just north of Boca Grande on the South West Coast of Florida, Little Gasparilla Island is a hidden Gem. The Island is about 7 miles long but less than a mile wide. The north end of the island hosts a State Park while the secluded south end is dotted with single family stilt homes and townhouses. There are no cars on Little Gasparilla Island, you’ll need to arrive by water taxi or boat.
Once on the island, the most popular mode of transport is by golf cart or simply a quiet stroll.
The fishing is great both inshore and offshore. Snook, redfish and tarpon are in abundance here. It is a fisherman’s paradise.
Shelling is legendary on the pristine white powder sand beach. You’ll find many different species of shells along with the sand dollar and star fish. When you get tired of shell collecting, just take a dip in the quiet waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
The old Florida beauty of the island is evident all around you and makes this a perfect place to just sit back and relax.
Local wildlife include the ospreys making nests on the powerlines, gopher tortoises walking along with you down the sand paths, egrets and herons catching their dinner out of the water, and don’t forget the dolphin and manatees.
The tropical landscape is beautiful with seagrapes, seaoats and all types of palm trees. Florida wildflowers are in abundance for color, and a stray cactus even pops up here and there. Everything seems to slowly sway with the gulf breeze.
Saving the best for last would be the absolute mesmerizing sunsets. If you haven’t seen a West Coast Florida Sunset before, you are missing out. Little Gasparilla Island is home to some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.
"Once You Have Slept on an Island
Once you have slept on an island
You’ll never be quite the same
You may look as you looked before
And go by the same old name
You may hustle about in street and,
You may sit at home and sew,
But you’ll forever see blue water
And wheeling gulls
Wherever your feet may go.
You may chat with neighbors
Of this and that.
And close to the fire keep,
But you’ll hear ships’ whistles
And lighthouse bells
And tides beat through your sleep.
And you won’t know why
And you can’t say how
Such a thing upon you came.
But once you have slept on an island
You won’t be quite the same.
- Rachel Fields"
Hello! We are the owners of the Sundance Beach house. It was "love at first sight" when we first vacationed on Little Gasparilla Island and now a dream come true that we own a piece of this Island paradise.
Sundance Beach house/Bart & Emily purchased this house in 2015
The incredible view from the sun deck...the sunsets, the beach, natural beauty. The house is equipped with all the comforts of home and for a great day at the beach.
Seven miles of Beach...The island is a private island without any commercial development. There are no restaurants, cars, or paved roads. Golf carts only! Access to the island is only available via a water taxi (or you can bring your own boat). Come to this place if you are seeking a beautiful break away from the rest of the world. Wildlife is abundant. Kayaking with dolphins, fish and wildlife. Fishing is some of the best in Florida!
Paul the caretaker was awesome and would assist with any questions or needs. Very relaxing and clean house.
The Sundance Beach House was perfect for our family of four. Beautiful ocean view, short walk to the beach or the bay and dock behind the house. So much to do...shell hunting (TONS of shells), kayaking, fishing from the beach, the dock OR with Lamar our guide. Lamar put us on to a Pompano run at the island's southern tip and we had fresh fish for dinner for a few nights!
And of course...plenty of beachside relaxation. Beautiful sunsets every night from the front deck. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Bart and Emily are wonderful and attentive owners and the on-call property manager Paul was phenomenal. We had a slight problem arise with the A.C. unit going out on our second night at the house and they had an A.C. guy over to the island the first thing the next morning to fix it. It was up and running before we got back from our trip to the beach.
One note to future renters...be sure to plan your grocery trip before heading over to LGI. Get everything you want in food and supplies because once you're on the island...you won't want to leave!
Great house! Lots of space and plenty of room for everyone. Awesome view of the gulf and short walk to beach. Bring EVERYTHING you need or think you might need. If you don't have your own boat, getting on and off the island is a little time consuming.
We enjoyed our week at Sundance! Our grandchildren, ages 2 and 4, loved the beach and our daily golf cart expeditions. We had atypically cold and windy weather for March-- so swimming, boating and fishing were much more limited than what we had hoped for. But we loved the quiet of the island, seeing turtles and ospreys🌴And collecting shells, sharks teeth and sand dollars. Paul ( the caretaker) was incredibly helpful, helping us arrive and depart right on time. No trouble with the house whatsoever, and it was very clean when we arrived!
All in all, a GREAT vacation. Wish we could've stayed for a month!
The drive down from Illinois with 3 dogs was horrible and we had some bad bad luck on the way there and getting situated but once we did it was great. The house is located perfectly, so many shells, everyone was friendly. The house was clean and Paul is a great guy!! They had the kitchen stocked well with pans, plates, etc. by the end of the vacation we were sure we'd be coming back. We used Shane and Chuck from island boat rentals we highly recommend them. Such nice guys that really care about you having fun. I was treated very poorly by the pirate water taxi guy so I was thankful for shane and chuck who went above and beyond for us.
We really enjoyed it! Beautiful view of the gulf, great fishing in the bay, lots of life on the island we saw dolphins, manatees, coyotes and even a bobcat! Sand dollars and other shells are plentiful along the beach.
Thank you Bart and Emilie!
Thank you Paul!
