About the property

Our home is a 3 bedroom/2 bath lake front home on a double lot providing lots of privacy as well as plenty of yard space for the hammock and rope swing. Located on beautiful Edwards Point Cove, a no wake zone allows for peaceful rafting and kayaking without disruption of waves. The 20' x 15' sundeck allows ample space for sunbathing or just relaxing under the umbrella. The boathouse deck includes 2 different levels of jumping platforms and 2 lower decks for fishing or just feeding the ducks.

The lakefront fire pit provides the opportunity to enjoy the cool nights and beautiful lake and mountain views around the fire.

The welcoming living area includes a large flat screen TV, functional gas fireplace, kitchen bar area and dining room with a view. An artsy bunkroom provides a sleeping area for 4 guests of all ages. A warm master bedroom also includes a flat screen TV and queen bed. The guest room includes a double bed and twin sized trundle bed with plenty of paperback books available for reading. The kitchen provides a new refrigerator and oven along with a stove top and microwave. The baths both include showers, one with a shower tub combination and the other with a walk in shower. Internet is provided along with a DVD/VHS player and a closet full of games and movies.

Decks surround the house and include a gas grill and dining area perfect for enjoying the tranquil cove and beautiful views while you dine.

We have enjoyed many great times with our family in this home, along with our dogs, so we welcome your pets as well!

Nice property -- owners great to work with.

We stayed May 19-26. The house had everything we needed. The boat house had space for our boat and my son enjoyed the jumping platforms. The dogs enjoyed swimming every day. Lots of rafts to float around the cove. Convenient to many hiking trails and other areas of interest. Very nice, relaxing vacation. Would definitely come back.

Memorial Day 2018 experience

Our experience at the house on Lake Lure comes with mixed reviews.

My positive comments - The house has a lot of possibilities, nice deck and a very nice boathouse. We enjoyed the nice gas grill and the lounge chairs on the boathouse. The owner was great to work with and very responsive. As a VRBO homeowner with rentals, I appreciated this.

As mentioned in a previous review, the home needs a good bit of attention. We were disappointed that the couch had not been replaced, as suggested previously and felt the need to cover it with a sheet before we sat on it. It is old and extremely musty smelling. The bath towels are pitiful - stained and most felt like they should be used for rags. Actually. all the linens should be replaced, not just the bath towels. The home needs a good cleaning, cabinets and closets need organizing as they are a mess. Watch out for the bar area in the kitchen - it slants so much that a bottle of wine slid off! I spent time cleaning the counters and sink area as they were grimy. The bathroom sink was dirty. At 11:00 PM, we discovered the sheets had hair on them. The good news is there were clean sheets in the linen closet. The deck off of the home has a table and 4 chairs that were so dirty that you did not want to sit there. Being Memorial Day weekend, we were disappointed that time had not been spent cleaning up the decks and furniture.

So, it is unfortunate to have to write this as I know how important reviews are for future rentals. Your cottage could just be a cute as ever with some definite updates, cleaning, replacing some furniture and organizing.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback! A brand new leather sectional is being delivered next week on June 22, 2018. New linens and all new bath towels have been purchased and will be available on June 19th. We met with the cleaning crew and advised them of their responsibilities which include outside tables and chairs, keeping the cabinets organized and of course clean. We will continue to monitor throughout the summer. We block off a week a month for maintenance updates and ground keeping just to keep an eye on the summer rental situation. To fix the slight (nothing has ever rolled off for us) slant in the bar top will require more maintenance than we feel is currently needed but will look into it this winter when there is no interruption in current reservations. A contractor informed us that it would require a replacement of not only the countertop but stove top and oven as well. The guest mentioned that we were easy to work with but failed to mention that they had cancelled their stay last fall the week of their reservation which warranted no refund. We were accommodating and let them pick another time to stay with no cancellation fee. They picked the very popular Memorial Day weekend which rents at the summer rate, they had paid the winter rate, and we did not adjust their price. We hope this response addresses the quest's review concerns and potential renters please reach out with questions or concerns. Thank You!

The property with its views and close proximity to many fun activities gave our family memories to last a lifetime. We were very comfortable. The owners were great to work with. Thanks for a wonderful vacation.

Lake beautiful / home not so much

It is obvious where the owners have put their resources for this property. The dock house, dock, walkways and retaining walls are beautifully maintained. The house, YUCK !! There were mice droppings in the silverware drawers, roaches dead on the counters, live roaches in the kitchen. The oven is broken, stove works though. The kitchen is filthy. Pots and pans although plentiful Teflon is scratched on them all. We could not cook there at all.

I would not buy the couch at a thrift store. It is old and very worn. Spills in all the pillows. The towels in the kitchen are very stained and full of holes. Bring your own bath towels as well, nasty !!!! The sheets and beds very comfortable, the water pressure was great and nice and hot. Also, the gas fireplace warm and lovely.

Owner's Response: Dear Christine R, Karen and I make every effort to be sure each and every guest has a wonderful stay at our family home. As you can see by all of our previous reviews, most guest have been very happy. Since our home is continually in use, we can only address areas of concern when we are alerted to them. While we would have preferred a more positive tone, we apologize for any dissatisfaction you experienced, we do appreciate the constructive criticism, and will immediately address all of the issues you raised. Our exterminator has already remedied the pest problem (at the onset of cold weather in the mountains, the little deer mice can find a way in to get warm ....sorry). This entire year no one has ever mentioned that our oven did not work, nor that they "could not cook in the kitchen". Before our next guests arrive, we will check the breaker, and also have our appliance serviceman check the oven's operation, and service same if needed. We will replace any towels and kitchen utensils as needed. Also, perhaps this is the year to retire our couch, and if so, it will be replaced. Again, we do appreciate any positive feedback, we will address all concerns for our next guests, and we are happy at least that you enjoyed the fireplace, our deck and beautiful Lake Lure!
