About Angel House
Angel House is a classic northern New Mexican territorial style home, with pitched metal roof, post and beam construction, interior adobe walls and thick plaster exterior walls with straw bale infill. It's sunny and bright, with wonderful details: flagstone bancos surrounding a beautiful masonry kiva fireplace; exquisite tile work in the bath; hand plastered walls with bits of straw and mica gleaming from the depths. The house was designed to maximize New Mexico’s abundant sunshine to effectively heat and cool the house – this is called passive solar design – with conventional systems providing backup.
The kitchen is one of a kind: granite tile counter tops are inlaid with turquoise, and a genuine cast iron British cooker in chile-pepper-red will invite your pets to sprawl before it, basking in its gentle warmth. It’s fully equipped with everything from wineglasses to microwave.
There's a second story loft that provides two "away" areas to read, nap, work at the desk, or watch TV or DVDs. The west side offers a rocker and comfortable overstuffed chaise for reading, a desk to set up your laptop and use the high speed wireless internet, and a view of the amazing Taos sunsets. Cross the second story bridge to the east side to practice yoga as the sun rises over the sacred Taos Mountain, or just stretch out on the couch and watch TV. The couch pulls out into a full bed if your party has more than two guests.
Angel House has spectacular views in every direction. The house is "L" shaped and wraps snugly around a covered flagstone portal (porch) furnished with wrought iron table, chairs, and gas grill for outdoor dining and relaxation. A pair of Taos blue Adirondack chairs let you bask in the New Mexico sunshine, while grown pinon and juniper trees give the patio area a feeling of peace and privacy.
Angel House best suits a couple looking for a beautiful, romantic getaway. The bedroom is down one side of the house's "L” and offers a retreat from the kitchen, living room and upstairs. It has a comfy queen bed with a view of Taos mountain and a private entrance to the covered portal. The bedroom has its own entrance to the dual-sink bath with whimsically tiled shower. However, it can sleep up to four people. If more than two guests are visiting, the bath has a second door opening onto the hallway, so that extra guests don't have to enter the bedroom to use the bathroom.
So… why is it called Angel House?
We think that angels watch over the house and linger there, especially when they need a little vacation from their duties. They feel at home, because the house and its peaceful environment is as close to heaven on earth that you will find.

From the moment I walked in at Angel House, I felt at home. There are lovely views from the patio where I spent most of my days. Incredible New Mexico skies, fresh air, coyote songs, pinon jays and the charming town of Arroyo Seco -- this was the perfect location for my stress free escape from the heat and humidity of North Texas. There were no problems from arrival throughout the stay. Detailed instructions are given for all aspects of the home from wi-fi setup to the wonderful Esse stove (made me want to redo my kitchen again!) to the educational grey water system. The home is clean and well kept with a nicely stocked kitchen. The bbq grill worked well complete with an extra propane tank. It wasn't needed but I appreciate the foresight to have one available. I will definitely return to Angel House.
As a VRBO host, I know what it takes to make a house appealing, comfortable and enjoyable for guests. This VRBO rental experience ranks at the top of the list when it comes to great accommodations. The house is in one of the most enviable areas of Northern New Mexico, offering truly refreshing views in all directions, privacy and nicely appointed comfort. An easy 10 min drive into town but very well situated making one think they are pretty much secluded and alone.
We had spectacular rain storms every afternoon which could be watched approaching for miles, lighting up the skies at sunset with those colors only New Mexico can offer. Sleeping with all the windows open at night allow breezes off the sagebrush, sounds of coyotes in the arroyo before sunrise and instill a calm that cannot be acquired anywhere else other than Taos.
The house has everything you will need, whether you want to cook your own meals, inside or out, sit and relax enjoying the views from a great porch and patio or sleep through your entire stay (bad choice!) in a comfy bed.
Kayta was very well organized with do's and dont's and has plenty of notes in the house to answer any and all questions one might have.
I could easily have stayed another year or two!
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Taos - the best part being our stay at this solar home. We spent our first evening paging through the design details of the home. We savored our morning coffee on the beautiful patio and sat by the fire in the evenings listening to the coyotes. Much to our surprise, the experience staying in this house was as much a part of our Taos visit as the sight-seeing and local activities.
The "Angel House" was a slice of heaven. It was the nicest VRBO property we have ever stayed in. The owners have thought of every need you might have during your stay. The house was wonderfully made and extremely comfortable. We loved having a fire in the evenings. The view from the patio is stunning! Plus, we enjoyed being away from the crowd yet close enough to get wherever we needed. We would stay here again and absolutely recommend it to others.
I didn't know it would be a blizzard when I headed up to Taos this spring. I think in the short time I was there the weather gave me everything - snow, rain, and sun. The Taos mountains are beautiful regardless and the views from the home are stunning.
The house is very quiet even though it is closer to the street. The kitchen has everything you need and the Esse is my new favorite appliance ever. The radiant heat never needs adjusting regardless of the temperature outside and there were plenty of logs to create lovely crackling fires at night. On the blizzard day I had the fire going most of the day and it was so cozy!
I have to commend Katya for responding so quickly the first morning of the blizzard when the power went out. She even called the power company for me to see how long the outage would last. (only a couple hours)
I live in Albuquerque and go up to Taos as often as possible. I highly recommend this property. It's in my favorite part of the Taos area - near Arroyo Seco. The views from many places in the Taos area are lovely but this area has it all and the views from the property are exceptional.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Angels, nested beautifully between the Taos ski area and downtown. The house was immaculate and clean. Lots of clean towels and linens and an array of condiments enabled us to do some of our own cooking. We loved the energy efficiency of the property. The dark, quiet location allowed for perfect nighttime stargazing, sitting outside on the patio. Comfortably sleeps 2 adults with room for kids upstairs.
Beautiful, quiet location with spectacular views in all directions. Art galleries, shopping, restaurants, hot air balloon rides into the gorge, hiking, biking, and world class skiing all nearby.
