If you are looking for a quiet place to get away, this is it. The house has a rustic feel with a wonderful screened porch which has two tables, chairs, hammock and porch swing. There is usually a breeze blowing through the porch and the sounds of the birds and wind chimes are very relaxing. It's the place where everyone spends the evenings relaxing and listening to nature. There is another deck with a table and chairs.
The house is spacious enough to accommodate family gatherings or a group of friends getting together. It is close enough to visit New Orleans, and a great place to come home and relax.
The Porch House is a raised, cedar, Acadian style home with a 42 ft. porch and tin roof. It has ceramic tile in the living, dining and kitchen areas. There are four bedrooms and three baths (one pillow top king bed and a queen size bed downstairs and a queen and full upstairs in one bedroom and a queen in the other upstairs bedroom ). There is a loft/nook which has two twin beds, with a desk separating the two beds. The bedrooms have a taupe colored carpet. The kitchen has ash cabinets with an island perfect for entertaining. It is uniquely and comfortably decorated. The Porch House is not new and far from sterile, but it truly sparkles with memories and great energy of those that have visited before.
The Porch House is located near Bayou Liberty on a dead-end street in a secure, private area, yet, it is only two miles away from Olde Town Slidell. Some activities to plan are: The Antique Street Fair in October and April; Arts Evening held in November; Mardi Gras parades (family oriented and begin in Slidell before the New Orleans parades); The Slidell Heritage Festival held in July with fireworks over Bayou Bonfouca, and the Crawfish Cook-Off is in July. Besides the quaint shops in Olde Towne, there are many good restaurants, including Palmettos on the Bayou, La Provence, Assuntas and more casual dining at The Bicycle Shop and Southside, to name a few. A short drive away, on the west side of the parish is Covington, Mandeville and Madisonville. There are many interesting shops and festivals in this area, with the Wooden Boat Festival being highly recommended.
Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian is less than an hour away...where the day can be spent enjoying the sun and sand, or enjoying the arts along the Bay.
If you want to bring your boat, or rent a boat or kayak, and explore Bayou Bonfouca, Bayou Liberty or Lake Pontchartrain, there is a boat launch and boat slip a few miles away.
There is a public boat launch at Heritage Park in the heart of Slidell a few miles away, and a private boat slip available in a waterfront subdivision. There are many different types of fish to catch in the Lake as well as take advantage of kneeboarding, etc.
There are several nearby golf courses - Pinewood, Royal and Oak Harbor. .
Slidell is about 25 miles from Downtown New Orleans, home of the French Quarter and casinos. It is about 30 miles from Bay St. Louis/Waveland area and an hour away from Biloxi/Gulfport area.
The Gulf Coast has many interesting places to visit and has made great progress in rebuilding since Katrina. There are many casinos in Biloxi/Gulfport, but the closest one is near Bay St. Louis.
This home is close enough to New Orleans to be a tourist in the daytime, and come home to relax in a quiet community. It is also centrally located to experience the many little different towns in the surrounding areas. For more information on current events, the Slidell Chamber of Commerce has a website that can give more details.

I am a retired teacher and have been doing vacation rentals since 2005. I grew up in Mississippi on a farm and since retiring, have moved back to the farm. It is a peaceful place to be, but I get to go back to Slidell to manage the property when needed. My heart is split between both places....Slidell is a great place to live, or visit and Mississippi is too. I am very grateful to have a home in both places and be able to share it with others.
The Owner purchased this house in 2002
The Porch House is very special to me. My dear friend and neighbor owned the house and when she and her son decided to move back to her home place and sell it, we bought the house. My son and her son spent many hours and days on the bayou. We shared an elderly baby sitter who would write a daily journal about what the boys got into while we were at work. There were a couple of entries about falling in the bayou that weren't entered in the journal, but the wet, muddy clothes in the mop sinks told the story.
Those were great times. The neighborhood was safe, and still is, thankfully.
Slidell has grown quite a bit since this home was built, but living on the bayou and in the neighborhoods around the bayou were special. It remains so to this day. It's not far if you have to go to the grocery, but it's like being in the country....You'll want to stock up so you never have to leave home.
As a vacation rental, it has really been great for families to meet in a central place and be able to visit together or go into New Orleans and do the tourist thing.
Great visit! Hot weather...Sal and Judy's in Lacombe is, as always, best place to eat; and the Porch House is the best place to stay!!!
Our family of 8 stayed over Thanksgiving with family meeting from all over. This house was great. We all fit quite well. There were quite enough bedrooms! Also, this house was very well stocked!! We had all appliances and pots and pans needed to cook a large Thanksgiving dinner! Nora was also very accommodating. She was always available to help and answer any questions. I'd recommend this house for large families!
The Porch House was a great location for our recent family vacation along the Gulf Coast. There were 7 of us and we ranged in age from 11-70 and there was something for everyone whether to the beach in nearby Biloxi, New Orleans activities or staying at the house quilting. The house was a perfect home base, great space upstairs for all the kids and downstairs so quiet. We all spent time in the porch swing. Thank you for such a comfortable home away from home.
This was our third stay at The Porch House. Our daughter lives in New Orleans and this house get us convenient to the city but offers a quiet, peaceful setting. We have two cats and they love the spacious porch as does my husband. The house is very welcoming and has everything you need for a pleasant stay. We would highly recommend it - just leave some room for our next stay!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The Porch House is so comfortable and clean! It has everything you need to feel like it's your own place.
This home had all you would need for your trip plus more. It is located in a quiet neighborhood and it had enough room for all 9 of us. The home was comfortable and it was close to the attraction we wanted to see. I will stay here again when I'm in town.
Slidell is centrally located between New Orleans and Mississippi. The Pearl River, which is 20 minutes away, has several Swamp Tours to choose from and if you're a cyclist, the Tammany Trace is very close. Bayou Liberty boat launch is a street away.
