About Liam & Fiona Travers

I come from a family background in the hospitality industry.

I grew up in Kildare which is about 45 minutes from Dublin and worked for many years in my parent's hotel there.

I emigrated to New York for a number of years and when I returned in 1990 I purchased this property in Dublin City.

As I am a qualified builder and carpenter I undertook to restore this house over a number of years and restore it to some of its former glory. As you can see from the pictures there are a lot of original features which I managed to retain and I am pleased that I can finally share them with people from all over the world.

I am now living in Kildare again and am married with a daughter.

As my parents before me I am committed to providing all of my guests with a wonderful holiday experience in a beautiful period house. I am available at all times for my guest either by phone or email and am happy to answer any query.

Liam & Fiona Travers purchased this apartment in 1990

Why Liam & Fiona Travers chose Arran Quay

I chose this location for the proximity to the city centre and of course the beautiful Victorian Redbrick lined North Circular Road.

These properties are a feature of Dublin and are preserved by Dublin Council.

The fact that the Phoenix Park and the Botanic gardens are within walking distances is an absolute plus, providing plenty of recreational activity. The Phoenix park is a wonderful asset just a few minutes walk away. So whether guests want to go for a jog or a walk or visit the Zoo this is the perfect place to do it. A wonderful place to unwind and relax and one of my favourite places to visit. Bike hire is available here also.

Numerous pubs, restaurants are within walking distance and I feel that the house provides a sense of character and charm not matched by modern buildings and houses. Local coffee shops, restaurants and bars are all located within 10 minutes walk and are a wonderful way of sampling Dublin life all within easy reach.

It's a mainly residential area and has every facility necessary to provide guests with a comfortable stay.

There is a supermarket located just 3 minutes walk away that is open late and there is an excellent bus service right outside the front door which will transport guests to the city centre within 10 minutes.

What makes this apartment unique

There are a number of benefits to staying in this property.

Located close to the heart of the city of Dublin there is an excellent transport system by bus and light rail that means all of the sights can be visited with the minimum of fuss.

The building itself is a beautiful Victorian property that has unique charm while offering all the modern comforts that a guest could expect.

The location is ideal as it is quiet and peaceful while being convenient to all shopping, sights, transport, museums etc. that makes a holiday enjoyable.

Located beside the Phoenix park which is Europe's largest urban park the traveller can have a taste of the country while still remaining in the city.

There truly is something for everyone.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This is a great little place. Close enough that my partner and I walked absolutely everywhere; far enough to escape the hoards of August Dublin tourists. This room is also in the back of the building, avoiding any sounds from the road. We chose it for its location and privacy - like our own wee place in Dublin!

We were very grateful for them allowing us to book something day-of, as well as their lockbox system which took the pressure off of meeting them at a specific time. When I accidentally left a small bag behind (hey, waking up at 4:00am to catch a flight is HARD), they were quick to message me and kind enough to meet with someone to return it. We never did meet in person, but communication was excellent.

It was the perfect little space for 1-2 people. Clean and modern, on the top floor of a walk-up. The whole building is rooms they rent. Do bring your own bath soaps and food, but otherwise it's well stocked.

FYI: In addition to what is mentioned on the page, there is a 24-hour Centra 5-10 minutes walk and I recommend Cowtown for coffee. And for those tourists traveling to Dublin in August, book everything online and ahead of time!

Thank you for everything Fiona and Liam!

Property clean and comfortable, close to transportation, 15 min. by cab to Dublin Center.

  • 4 of 5

First time in Dublin, felt welcomed by Fiona but also their driver Garry.

Flat was small, compact, good for 1 person. Fiona provided fruit and rolls and tea which was helpful till I got command of the neighborhood. City easily maneuvered, helped by Carmen and again by Garry with the Leap card.

My meeting was in St Stephen’s Green but only a quick cab ride.

Loved my Dublin flat

  • 5 of 5

I found my Oscar Wilde suite to be exactly as advertised; a studio flat in a great neighbourhood. There were multiple bus routes available and Tesco in easy walking distance. The view of the back garden and Dublin sunset was a bonus. The flat was quiet and well equipped. Perfect space for me.

Location location location

  • 5 of 5

My best friend and I stayed in the Oscar Wilde studio for a week’s time. It was just a 10 minute bus ride from City Centre with 2 incredibly convenient bus stops just outside the front door. The location is close enough to get to the city centre easily, and just outside enough to be far more quiet and relaxing. Check in and out was easy. The hosts could be reached if I had questions and were great with making recommendations on things to do! I would absolutely stay here again!

No frills accommodation in a sketchy part of Dublin.

  • 3 of 5

First off the good points: The property is clean, is about a 30 minute walk to O'Connell Street, has a good bus line virtually outside the door and grocery shopping is nearby.

The less impressive points are: aside for a ring rack for a hand towel there is no towel rack in the bathroom also no place in the shower stall to put soap & shampoo. There is a blow dryer but nowhere in the bathroom to plug it in and no mirror elsewhere in the suite.

Once the bed is pulled down there is very little room to move around. There is no bedside table nor bedside lamp. The accommodation is serviceable but nothing much has been done to make this really homey.

The tv didn't work for the week I was there. The owners did attempt twice to get it working but in the end it proved to be a cable problem that wouldn't be resolved until after I left. They gave me a box of chocolates as an apology, which was a nice touch.

The view out the window is of the unkempt back garden and the abandoned building next door. It is not a neighbourhood with a comfy feel, the divide between north of the Liffey and South of the Liffey is very noticeable here.

Owner's Response: Hi Louise Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We did have a cabling problem with the TV and it was unfortunate that it couldn't be fixed before you left. This problem has now been corrected and we have installed an upgraded cable TV system so there are plenty of channels to choose from. As regards the hairdryer in the bathroom that is actually against the electrical regulations in this country so not a lot that we can do about that I'm afraid. You won't find any electrical sockets in any bathroom in this country. We are getting a mirror for the apartment as suggested and also a towel rack and shower tidy. If I had known that these were issues for you I could have picked them up easily while you where staying with us. We are always eager to hear from guests and we welcome suggestions that might make a stay more comfortable. The apartment is indeed small (but perfectly formed) and this is part of it's charm. The size of the apartment is reflected in the price as is the view. The building next door is actually government owned and it will be renovated early in the new year so it will be occupied and fully functioning. I'm sorry that you felt the area was sketchy but it's actually an up and coming area with a brand new college just opened a few hundred metres away with a new light rail transport system which is going to be a wonderful addition to the area. This is a mainly residential area and is a wonderful way to live like the locals do. It is located just outside of the city centre and has a great feel of what it's like to live near the centre of town. We find lots of guests love to integrate with the locals and enjoy the experiences that Dublin has to offer. Thanks for your comments and take care Liam and Fiona

Nice basic accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is not in the tourist zone, and that's a good thing. It's small but great for two people who want to get away from the hastle of down town. City buses run very close by and if you download the Dublin transport app you can go anywhere with ease. There are pubs, grocery stores and restaurants in walking distance. You will need to climb a few flights of stairs to get to the apt. We had a blast and would rent it again. The owners were nice to deal with and answered questions promptly.

Cozy home away from home

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed four nights in the Oscar Wilde apartment, we loved it immensely and were really sad to leave. Liam was very kind and quick to respond to all my questions before we arrived, while we did not have the chance to meet we were welcomed by Carmen who is the housekeeper. Carmen went out of her way on a busy Saturday morning to let us in early before the room was ready, to lock up our luggage. This allowed us to spend a few hours at Phoenix Park without dragging our bags along. The Oscar Wilde had all we needed in the kitchen to prepare several meals which helped us a great deal, we were even provided with some fruit and breakfast scones to get us started. This room is up several flights of stairs so if that is an issue request a lower room. My only suggestion would be to add a small fan for those warmer days.
