Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Family friendly cottage in lovely quiet location, minutes from beach, cafes etc

Situated in the lovely seaside village of Llangrannog on Cardigan Bay, West Wales, the cottage is only a three minute walk from the beach and a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. It is located at the end of a quiet lane along a stream.

The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and rocking chair, and the second bedroom has a double bed and set of bunkbeds, ideal for couples on a romantic getaway, or for families with up to three children. The newly renovated kitchen seats up to six people at a fold-down dining table, plus a highchair. It has a new dishwasher and washing machine, microwave and electric cooker with induction hob. The living room has a cosy log and coal burner and comfortable leather furniture. New storage heaters have been installed throughout. There is wifi (fibre broadband), a TV with DVD player and Freeview Play for catch up TV and Netflix access.

The cottage is over two floors, with the bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. Parking is available for one small car, and access is limited on the lane. For larger vehicles, free parking is available approximately 400 yards away. One well-behaved dog is allowed for an additional charge of £25. No smoking.

The coastal path is less than 200 yards away. The spectacular rocky coastline has a number of beautiful sandy beaches and the possibility of spotting seals and dolphins. Aberporth, Penbryn (National Trust) and Tresaith beaches are a short drive away. The nearest large supermarkets are Tesco and Aldi, 12 miles away in the historic market town of Cardigan, which also has a good range of shops, restaurants, cafes, a theatre, cinema, swimming pool and leisure centre. The scenic harbour at Aberaeron is 14 miles up the coast.

Two miles away in Brynhoffnant is a good small supermarket and petrol station, and there is a great farm shop in nearby Sarnau selling local Welsh delicacies. The Urdd (youth) Centre is just outside the village and offers dry slope skiing and other activities. Further afield are the Preseli Mountains, several historic castles and heritage sites such as St Dogmael’s Abbey, and family attractions like the Welsh Wildlife Centre. Other activities include dolphin watching, kayaking, coasteering, golf, horse riding and river fishing.

About Julia

Hi, my name is Julia. My husband Jim and I purchased this lovely cottage in 2016 so that we could visit family nearby. My daughter Shannon manages the property and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We really hope you enjoy your stay in Llangrannog!

Why Julia chose Llandysul

This is the place to stay if you want peace and quiet, but still close to the beach, pubs, cafes and ice cream parlours. It's especially nice if you love coastal walks, and the scenery is very rugged and natural, with lots of opportunities to enjoy the local wildlife - dolphins, sea birds etc.

Nice little cottage in great location.

Comfy, well equipped cottage at the end of a quiet track. We love the village and barely stepped foot out of it the whole time.

Grubby and damp

  • 1 of 5

Didn't enjoy this cottage. It was grubby and damp. After having to buy fuel we still weren't warm. The cottage is in a very steep valley and I felt claustrophobic, so after Christmas Day we came home. I have a 5* gold property in Herefordshire and I certainly wasn't judging this cottage against that. BUT one should be warm and cosy whatever the rating.

We love Llangrannog but we won't return to this cottage.

Owner's Response: We're so sorry the cottage was not to these guests' liking. However, they were informed in advance that the cottage, which is quite old, did not have central heating. We have owned the cottage for slightly more than a year, and we are continually making improvements. All of the old radiators have now been replaced with storage heaters, and the upstairs windows have been replaced with new, triple-glazed, energy-efficient windows. The fact remains that Llangrannog is on the west coast of Wales, where it can be cold, windy and rainy in winter, which makes a visit at that time of year a bit risky. We do take exception to the term “grubby,” which suggests a lack of cleanliness. As seen from all other reviews, NO ONE has suggested that the cottage was anything other than clean and tidy. The cottage is old, it’s true, but that does not make it grubby.

Bodawen, Llangrannog

Lovely peaceful cottage and village, however be aware that the lane is very narrow and there is no turning circle at the end - I have a small car and had to reverse back down the lane to go out every day!

Small cottage but plenty big enough for two adults and two children, 10 and 11. They loved that they were so close to the beach - three minute walk - and the big waves! Good facilities in the village, fish and chip shop and really good food at the Pentre Arms, also small supermarket

Gorgeous part of Wales to stay in. The cottage was perfect for our needs & so close to the beach.

Fabulous property, in an amazing seaside village. With 2 adults & 3 kids (15, 9 & 8 years) there was plenty of room. Shannon greeted us & gave us all the info on the cottage. There was everything we needed & more, an abundance of kitchen equipment, even tea, coffee, milk & fruit for our arrival. The beds were extremely comfortable. Shower good. The house is at the end of a very narrow lane but we managed to drive & park there, but a tight reverse back out! 2 mins walk to the beach which was fantastic, huge waves! Wetsuits & bodyboards are advisable if you have kids (or are a big kid!) which you can buy at a reasonable price from the local shop. 2 great pubs with good food & chip shop/cafe & ice cream parlour with good coffee. We would definitely recommend 'Bodawen' cottage & hope to return again soon!

Lovely situation close to beach but very quiet

  • 5 of 5

House well equipped as everything very new. Lovely village very short walk away with fantastic pubs and cafes all at good prices. Nice outside area for BBQ that gets evening sun until late. Highly recommend but maybe is perhaps slightly small for 4 with sound carrying through the house easily especially between living room and bedroom above as just boards and no ceiling but definitely not a major problem and overall is fantastic
