Great house in the perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We had large group at Suzie's house for Memorial Day weekend. There was plenty of room for all of us to relax and enjoy our time at the lake. The house has all the amenities needed for a great weekend - comfortable beds, clean bathrooms and kitchen, awesome deck and dock and a sound system. I would definitely recommend the house and hope to make a visit back sometime soon!

Sad excuse for a rental property on the water

  • 1 of 5

We rented this home for a week because we had a fishing tournament on grand lake. When we were almost to the house we knew that the driveway was going to be steep but not that steep. We had two trucks and two boats and the boats were pushing the trucks forward even with four wheel drive on. After pulling in we unloaded our stuff and unpacked coolers. The fridge had a bunch of condiments taking space in the fridge and there was food in the freezer so there wasn't much space for ice or frozen foods. We then put the boats in the water and had a hard time with that because the boat landing is so steep and the pavement only goes to the edge of the water. In the listing the boat house was advertised with two boat slips but there was a jet ski in there so we had to move that to fit our expensive bass boats. The power went out in the boat house after opening the garage doors so we had to run extension cords down to close them and charge the boats. The boat house was littered with raccoon feces and fish scales. We wanted to play some pool after this since it was advertised but couldn't find a pool table. I messaged the owner with concerns about the boat house and the pool table since they were advertised and she just said they were not available anymore because that was part of an old listing that must have gotten back on there. Well we had two boats and used the boat house and she didn't care that the boat house electricity wasn't working. We then went to cook some food but found mouse feces in the oven, the oven drawer on the pans, and under the couches. Good thing we brought our own pots pans plates and utensils. We also found a dead mouse and a live baby mouse in the closet of one of the bedrooms. The place didn't looked like it was cleaned in a long time. The fan blades had a half inch of dust. In the middle of the week the furnace went out and we had to try to get the pilot lit in this ancient furnace that also hasn't been cleaned probably since it was bought 40 years ago. The filter had no ridges because it was so caked with dust. We were able to get it lit again. At the end of the week we asked the owner where we needed to put our garbage since there wasn't a dumpster or garbage cans anywhere. She never responded. After the "vacation" she notified me over home away that she needed my home address to send my security deposit instead of returning it over the app. I called home away and they took care of that. Overall I would not recommend this place

Gathering with friends by a lake - a fun time!

  • 3 of 5

When you are with friends, small glitches don't ruin the fun times together, though if people cannot sleep due to the heat inside the home, people are not very rested the next day. When we arrived at the cabin, after getting lost using a GPS(we were on the wrong side of the tributary!), we ran to the front door in the downpour, and finally figured out how to get the keybox open. When we entered the cabin, it was very warm inside - 97 degrees! Unbeknownst to Suzie, the compressor had gone out, and the air conditioner was not working. We called Suzie and she called the AC repairman but he was not able to come to the cabin until the next day. There were two room stand alone air conditioners that we needed to vent to the outside, and there were some fans. Unfortunately, they did little to reduce the heat until about 4 or 5am. The repairman came the next morning but he couldn't get the new compressor until the following day, the day we were to leave. Since it rained during the day, it did help to cool the cabin down somewhat, but even though we switched the air conditioners around, it was still pretty warm inside. We enjoyed the hot showers(plenty of hot water), and the dining areas(we ate several meals outside on the covered deck) and several in our group enjoyed a swim in the water off the dock. The ramp to the dock was a little slippery due to the moisture build up from the rain but the railings helped. The home interior was a little dated, and some minor repairs were needed(shower head squirted water outside the shower stall in the master; some outlets were loose; some of the plastic dishes were pretty scratched up; hot tub was not usable; and the covered deck leaked when it rained). The parking was adequate. We would have liked to have had pictures posted of the outside of the cabin so we could recognize it better, and we didn't realize it was a double wide. Suzie did discount our rate since the AC was not working so we appreciated that, and she did check to see if there was other housing available close by for the 2nd night(but none was available). The cabin is not on the open lake itself, but rather on a tributary, so it did lack the "wow" factor. We know the Evans family really enjoyed the cabin through the years but as a rental cabin, some updates and repairs are needed.

Great place and location!

  • 5 of 5

The home was very spacious with plenty of room for larger groups. The home was clean and easy to figure everything out. There is a huge deck out back overlooking the cove just across and down a bit from the dripping springs cliff. It has it's own private boat dock with a deck on top that you can hang out on and jump off of into the cove. The top deck above the dock was a very cool bonus that we did not know was there before booking it. The only downside about the location is if you are bringing a larger boat, there is a very steep and narrow hill that you have to go down then back up again which is kinda sketchy pulling a big boat. This hill is just before you get to the property. The private boat ramp is also very steep, I would recommend launching your boat in the public ramp just around the corner, then drive your boat over to the private boat dock at the property. Overall I would highly recommend this place for some good vacation time at Grand Lake!
