Stillwater Chalet is rustic-luxe, through and through. Our five star qualities and abundance of amenities will impress even the most discerning of vacation travelers.

Stillwater Chalet's quaint setting, wreathed in fir and cedar scented national forests, and it's charming appeal, settles each guest's angst when arriving to that new unfamiliar vacation home, with your family or group.

Completely renovated down to the wall studs in 2013/14 and complimented with a custom kitchen, a porcelain farm house apron sink, new cinnamon stained, French bled maple hardwood floors, a 14 foot floor to vaulted ceiling slate stone wood fireplace and new doors and windows for energy efficiency, our impeccably clean and richly appointed 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom chalet, can comfortably sleep 6 to 8 guests.

You will find Stillwater Chalet, nestled amongst old growth cedar and fir trees, high on Big Mountain, above the picturesque town of Whitefish Montana on Whitefish Lake, yet only a 10 or so minute drive to main street Whitefish where you will find a large selection of boutique shops, antique stores, our town bakery, several coffee shops, a couple of ice cream cafes and a large array of restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Our chalet is also only a 2 mile (3.9 km) drive to the village at Whitefish Mountain Resort, where you will find a good selection of restaurants, pubs and a few boutique shops as well.

A further drive out but within 30 minutes or so from the chalet, you’ll find yourself enjoying the wilds, views and trails in Glacier National Park, just beyond the Bob Marshall State wilderness area. A drive south of our chalet will find you exploring the quaint communities of Big Fork, Somers and Lakeside Montana, on the shores of Flathead Lake.

Or if you wish to stay closer to home (Stillwater Chalet), our very own Whitefish Lake has a lot of adventure to be enjoyed especially when you, as a guest of our chalet, can enjoy our resorts very own lake lot on Whitefish Lake. Delight in a picnic on the shores of the lake, soaking in the warm west facing sunshine or watch the kids as they play in the shallow waters along the lakes edge. You and your family or group are sure to enjoy the lasting memories made during your time at Stillwater Chalet.

Stillwater Chalet is completely equipped with all the amenities of home that you will require including plush Egyptian cotton towels and bathrobes, high thread count pressed cotton sheets, additional cozy throws for wrapping yourself up on the couch in front of the roaring fire, enjoy that movie on our Bose and Samsung LCD HD 3D TV, theatre sound system, Cobblestone Creek signature spa bath products and our own craft roasted and ground coffee, an assortment of black and herbal teas, hot chocolate, sugar, salt, pepper, tin foil, stretch wrap, zip lock bags, dishwashing soap, hand soaps, household cleaners, paper products including ultra plush toilet paper, facial tissue, a fully stocked kitchen including dishes, cups and utensils for 12, bake and serve ware, Cuisinart waffle iron, coffee machine, griddle, popcorn popper, blender, hand mixer, coffee grinder and tea kettle all so you can relax and be pampered while enjoying the beauty of nature literally outside your back and front door.

About the Cobblestone Creek team

My wife and I first came to Whitefish during the winter of 2012, just after New Year’s, for a ski week as we had heard that Whitefish Mountain Resort receives epic snowfalls and the ski conditions are typically pretty awesome. Well we were not disappointed; we fell in love with the area! So much so much that we decided to buy a place within the year and wanted to share it with other families and groups so that they too could experience this unique area.

the Cobblestone Creek team purchased this chalet in 2013

Why the Cobblestone Creek team chose Montana

The chalet we fell in love with seems to be just dropped, "in the tree tops", as it is surrounded but old growth cedar, fir and birch trees. The forest smells are so wonderful all year round and the wildlife and birds that just seems to meander or flutter through our yard is a treat for the kids and adults alike. Our chalet is located only a 2 minute walk from most of the resorts amenities (Hot tub, salt water indoor pool, sauna, tennis courts and playground), is only a 10 or so minute drive to the lifts at Whitefish Mountain Resort and is only about a 15 minute drive to downtown Whitefish, making the chalet pretty central to all the adventure and activity.

With typically over 300 inches (762 centimetres) per year of fluffy champagne powder and average day time temperatures around 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 Celsius) the Whitefish area is the perfect getaway as we both found. The town itself is so quaint and vibrant. The locals decorate the town over the Christmas and New Year’s season, with evergreen garland strung around the verandas on the store fronts and from one side of the street to the other, which make it quite magical over the Christmas season. There are over three full blocks of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants in Whitefish’s downtown and the surrounding mountain sides with their abundance of hiking trails, mountain biking, fishing, the plethora of inexpensive championship golf courses, all made each day an adventure for us. And the locals!..the locals were so welcoming, engaging and thankful that we had come for a visit. Well we loved the area and atmosphere

What makes this chalet unique

Our family has had so many incredible year round memories, vacationing in the Whitefish Lake, Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park area that assisting other families to experience the same fun and adventure has become a passion of ours as has providing these same families with charming, comfortable and exceptionally clean vacation home rentals to enjoy while you're on vacation at Stillwater Chalet.

The location of our Stillwater Chalet is definitely a highlight as it seems that the chalet has just been “dropped down amidst a forest of old growth cedar and fir trees". You do enjoy some outstanding views of the surrounding Whitefish Mountainside from the chalet and Whitefish Lake and the Flathead Valley from the from many views points throughout our 52 acre Whitefish Mountain resort.

Elmer’s pond is located right across from our chalet so trying your fly fishing or casting skills is a favorite pastime of our family and I know it will be of your family’s too. (Children 12 and under can keep their catch but teens and adults must catch and release).

Another highlight of our chalet is; you and your families have miles and miles of hiking trails, literally right outside our door throughout the 52 acre resort and beyond. Being only a short drive to Whitefish Lake Beach or our own private beach and picnic area is pretty attractive as well. Our new chalet is sure to become a family vacation rental favorite for your family, year after year, as it has become for our family.

Cozy Spot for Exploring Whitefish and Glacier!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! This chalet has it all. This is a wonderfully renovated space that fit our 2 adult and 2 kid family perfectly.

Previous reviews are correct, the pictures are spot on and this place is beautiful! The chalet was well stocked, from the kitchen to the bathrooms and the Beds, oh the beds were wonderful! Fluffy, luxurious and such a treat to sink into after a long day of hiking, fishing and exploring.

The location is perfect, quietly tucked away in the woods, but easy to find. Very near Whitefish Mountain Resort, but only 10 minutes outside of the town of Whitefish.

The overall site itself has plenty of amenities, and the indoor pool was nicely maintained. Everything was well identified and easy to navigate.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat and would definitely recommend it!

Stay here!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a one week stay at the lovely Stillwater Chalet. I would agree with the other recent reviewer that the chalet was a beautiful as it looks in the pictures. It's very cozy, inviting and very well appointed. The attention to detail in every aspect of this condo did not go unnoticed. Within 24 hours of our arrival, we received a kind text message from Rebecca wondering if we had arrived and found everything that we needed and if we had any questions. The questions that we did have were answered within a couple of hours. The complimentary bag of Montana ground coffee was also a wonderful treat. We will stay here again and would highly recommend this chalet to anyone considering a trip to Whitefish with a party of 2 - 6. You will not be disappointed!

This chalet was as beautiful as it looks in pictures!

We spent 5 days over New Year's with my husband and my family and absolutely loved it. It is in a great location hidden and tucked away from everything it feels like yet you are so close to the Ski Hill and Downtown Whitefish. We would spend the days on the hill and meet up with my family later. The facilities were great as well - We used the pool and Hot Tub and it was very easy to find/use. We also utilized the firewood and had a fire almost every evening and into the night. Such a cozy place to stay.

Rooms were very comfortable. We had the two twins pushed together for a king bed for my parents and my husband and I took the queen bed. I think I slept better there than I have in a while!

The staircase is a little scary but wasn't too bad seeing as I was the only one that slipped a bit on them! You might be cautious to bring kids to this location because of the stairs but its a fantastic retreat for older kids/adults!

Will definitely look to come back and stay once again here!

cozy spot in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

This place was an amazing retreat! Such a beautiful spot in the trees with lots to do. The pool and hot tub were great, loved having the playground nearby, the house was fully stocked with everything we needed and more, the beds were super comfy, and that downstairs shower is amazing.

There were a few cons however, first being the tiny spiral staircase. It was dangerous and we all came home with war wounds from that thing. We were constantly worried about the little ones on the stairs and my husband actually had a bad fall. I was also hoping it was closer to the water, the lake lot wasn't easily accessible but the beach in whitefish is gorgeous.

Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed the serenity of the location. I don't think we would bring the kids back because of the stairs but it would be a great romantic getaway!

Owner's Response: Hi Britt, We are so happy to hear how your family so enjoyed their stay at our Stillwater Chalet on Big Mountain in Whitefish. As many guests so far have discovered, the chalet is a little treehouse like gem in the cedar and fir forests on Big Mountain above Whitefish Montana. We are so sorry to hear of your difficulty in navigating the spiral staircase that is pictured on our webpage. We do hope that each guest is careful when going up and down the stairs in all our vacation homes, asking them to go slow on the spiral stair case and especially do not want kids to be playing on any stairs. As mentioned on our webpage, the chalet is located on Big Mountain/Whitefish Mountain Resort, not on Whitefish Lake, though the resort where we are located does own a lakefront lot that we include directions to so that our guests can enjoy it when they are visiting us. We are sorry that you were not able to enjoy the resort lake lot but yes, the beach in the town of Whitefish is a beautiful spot for a picnic or frolicking in the cool waters on a warm summer day. Great to hear that you would visit us again, and thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay as we so value our guests feedback. Please do keep in mind that we do offer a further discount off the nightly rate for our return guests. Have a great summer and thank you again for choosing to stay with us!

Activities are as abundant as your imagination. Perhaps you want to try some fishing in our private trout pond located across from the chalet or a “lucky” spot along the many trophy trout rivers in the Flathead valley or along the shores of Whitefish Lake, while the kids explore the miles and miles of hiking trails in our 52 acre old growth forested resort, surrounding our chalet. Other activities include exploring over 2 dozen golf courses or 2 ski hills which range between a 5 minute drive to a 2 hour drive from our chalet. Cross country ski or snow shoe out our back door or enjoy the miles of hiking and horse back riding trails in Glacier National Park. Sleigh rides are a popular winter activity as is snowcat skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating on the local rink, mountain biking, zip lining, ridging down the alpine track or a walk in the forest tree tops, all at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Glacier National Park is a short and scenic 30 minute drive (20 miles/23 km) drive from Stillwater Chalet on Big Mountain/Whitefish Mountain Resort. There are various other State wilderness parks near the chalet as well. World class fly fishing in the Flathead River and Whitefish Rivers are a favorite pastime and Flathead Lake, the largest lake west of the Mississippi River is a short drive south where you can enjoy endless lake activities and adventures.
