I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and have lived in the city for the last 20 years, the last nine in Bucktown & Logan Square. We've always enjoyed the neighborhood and enjoy being an active part of the neighborhood.
I work 10 minutes from the house so I'm always close by. I'm a trained carpenter and now General Contractor. You'll probably find me working on the house and property.
I love to spend time with my family and enjoy the neighborhood and Chicago in general. I'm an avid home cook and look forward to preparing and eating with friends and family.
We live above the garden apartment in the main house. We like to be hands off and let our guests explore on their own. I have a lot of information and recommendations on local places to go/see/do. I'll be more than happy to share this info with you to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Doug M. purchased this apartment in 2014
We've always enjoyed the Bucktown and Logan Square neighborhoods and were ready to move on a single family home from a condominium. We had the opportunity to buy this house and have had a great time. We're happy to share a part of it with you!
High walk-able, easy access to other neighborhoods via car, bike or public transportation. Expressway is nearby as well. Anything in the city itself is accessible with public transportation (CTA buses or trains), taxi cabs, and car services like Uber/Lyft/Sidecar. If you need to go out to the suburbs, a rental car would definitely make getting out there easier. There are nearby car rental locations for Enterprise and Zipcar for short term car rental if you need it.
The apartment is about a 12 minute walk (1/2 mile) to the CTA Blue Line Elevated/Subway train. That train runs from O'Hare Airport to downtown (our stop is about half way in between). There are 2 major bus routes by the house that can take you east/west and north/south. Ordering a taxi or car service is easy from our location too.
We were greeted by Doug, very pleasant and accommodating! We had the privacy we wanted and felt safe in this neighborhood. The apartment was clean and comfy, nicely furnished. The bed was very comfortable, so was the couch :) . Great location, close enough to highway, but tucked on a nice quiet side street and perfect for day trips out and nights on the town. A nice bonus was no early check out!!! He allowed us to stay all day (we had a late flight out). Parking was easy-breezy, Doug gave us parking stickers--Thanks Doug!
When you think of Chicago you think crowded places with no room to move. That is not what you will get while staying at this wonderful retreat away from the crowds. However, you are still close to wonderful restaurants, parks and grocery shops in Logan Square. It is also very close to the train station and bus stops. One of my major requirements when finding a place to stay is it must have a good outdoor space and this apartment definitely has that. There was a quaint little table and chairs just outside the private entrance to the our apartment and shielded from the street and sidewalk. Parking was easy to find, but you really don't need a car if you plan to adventure through out Chicago.
The apartment was great. The kitchen was well equipped and you could tell it was well maintained. I loved the open layout. The bedrooms were cozy and plenty of storage and closet space. The bathroom had a nice tube to soak in after a long day of walking around the city. It was wonderful to have a washer and dryer too.
Doug and his family were the best. Doug was quick with responding to questions and gave wonderful advice on places to see. We met him and his lovely family, and they were very good about providing privacy. I would recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a place just out of the busy city center yet close to restaurants and parks. It was easy to give them five stars.
Thanks Doug for making our first time in Chicago a wonderful one.
We had a great time staying in this apartment. Doug was so welcoming and helpful. He was there whenever we needed something. We would definitely stay again!
We loved staying here with our family. The apartment was very nice and the side yard was beautiful! The owners were super nice and accommodating. We hope to come back again another time. Thank you!
We spent 10 days in Chicago at this home in Logan Square/Bucktown. Our hosts were amazing. We emailed back and forth before arriving. They sent us information about the unit, Chicago must dos, getting to the various ball parks from the apartment, and how to get from the airport to the apartment, among other fabulous and super useful tips. Once we were there, our hosts were very friendly and continued to make recommendations about restaurants in the area, etc. The apartment was beautiful. It is furnished very nicely. It definitely does not feel like a neglected vacation rental. Our two kids shared one room with two beds and we got the other bedroom. There were plenty of dishes, nice pots and pans to cook with, a toaster and coffeemaker. We did not feel like we needed to eat out every meal. The apartment is accessible to the rest of the city. There is a bus just a block away and the blue line "L" station is less than a 10 min walk from the apartment and from there you can switch to any of Chicago's various "L" lines. Basically, we loved the hosts and the apartment and would definitely recommend this place to anyone who was planning to spend some time in Chicago.
Having stayed 100’s of nights in over 50 home rental properties around the world, this awesome Chicago condo ranks in my TOP 3! Stop reading right now & book your stay. :~)
The very private unit is an entire level of a beautiful single-family home that sits on a double lot right in the middle of two of the hottest Chicago neighborhoods, Logan Square & Bucktown. It’s a family neighborhood that is clean, quiet, offers free parking, & is very safe. There is a huge, private grassy yard that is a full city lot right out the unit’s front door with swings, slides, and plenty of play space for kids. The owners live in the house & were excellent hosts who went above & beyond my already high expectations. Every detail has been thought of right down to fresh coffee for my first morning. And the home is appointed with high-quality EVERYTHING. This is No IKEA showroom. It's Top Notch. Let me put it this way – my wife wanted to take home the super-sized king bed & the massive leather couch just for the supreme comfort they offered (she actually took photos of the king mattress tag so we could order the same when we got home!). Huge flatscreen HD TV with all the channels & mega-fast internet speeds almost kept us away from exploring the neighborhood right out our door.
Glad we were able to escape the plush comfort & check out Logan Square and Bucktown. I love craft beer, great food, interesting people, & checking out the city on foot. There are bars, restaurants, ***Revolution Brewery***, an old school upscale pinball / video game / billiards arcade, super tasty Owen & Engine gastropub, unbelievable pizza at Boiler Room, & live music at the Congress Theater, all just a short walk away. The bus stops 1.5 blocks away & the raised subway (the ‘El’) is an 8 minute walk, just far enough that you never hear it. It gets you everywhere for $2. You can take it all the way to O’Hare airport or right downtown, stopping in the adjacent neighborhood of Bucktown, then onto Wicker Park, River North, West Town, & West Loop. We had a car, so to find parking available & free was awesome! I-90 is just a 4 minute drive, so I could get on the highway in no time in the mornings.
Ideal location. Great People. Beautiful place.
The family is exactly the kind of folks you hope to find when you arrive in a new city ready to enjoy. Super friendly (and very normal). We even had our own private outdoor sitting area under the trees.
You can’t go wrong with this place. Trust me. Stay Here!!
