Studio Thiaumerie is a ground floor studio apartment for A MAXIMUM OF 2 people in a 400 year old building in the heart of the medieval town of Bayeux.
The studio has a full-sized double bed, a comfortable sofa, free wifi, a dining table with padded dining chairs, a fully fitted kitchen area with hob, sink, microwave/grill and fridge with freezer compartment. There is also a brand new shower room/WC with extra large shower cubicle. The studio overlooks a private courtyard and there is a locked door to the main street.
Although the studio is on one of the main streets of Bayeux the double door entry means that you get no traffic noise from the street, just the occasional seagull to remind you that you are only 5 miles from the beach.
Rue St Jean is a pedestrianized zone during July and August and there is a weekly market on Wednesdays. On Saturday the main market is held in Place St Patrice, which is less than a 10 minutes walk. The UNESCO listed Bayeux tapestry is housed in a building less than 5 minutes walk away and the incredible medieval cathedral is a similar distance. You can pick up a shuttle bus to Mont St Michel or a D-Day tour bus less than 3 minutes from the studio and there are innumerable bars, cafés, restaurants and shops right outside your front door. There is a bike hire shop less than 50 yards away and the area around Bayeux is mostly flat. The railyway station is only a ten minute walk but we are happy to meet you off your train and take you to the studio by car for a small fee. In short, there is no real need to hire a car whilst you are in Bayeux but should you wish to do so, there is plenty of safe parking within less than 5 minutes of the studio.
The train from Paris takes 2 hours and there are frequent trains to Caen, which is only a 15 minute train journey.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not live on site and have to make a 45 minutes journey to Bayeux so we ask that our guests arrive before 6pm.
Michael and I are a British couple who grew up j20 miles north of London, where we worked for many years. We moved to Normandy in 2003 and have run an award-winning B&B for 12 years but recently saw the need for more short-term self-catering accommodation in the highly popular town of Bayeux.
Sally Byrne purchased this apartment in 2015
Bayeux has always been one of our favourite towns (we visit whenever we don't have guests staying at the B&B) so it was an easy decision to buy and renovate Studio Thiaumerie in late 2014 when it came on the market. Since it's opening in May 2015 it has been full for 80% of the time, with some wonderful feedback from our guests.
Studio Thiaumerie is located in one of the oldest streets in Bayeux, right in the heart of all the shops, restaurants and bars, with a fantastic market every Wednesday morning. We love that it is right in the centre of everything and yet, because it has a closed entrance it is still as peaceful and quiet as if it were out in the country.
The landlords, Sally and Michael, met us at the train station and personally updated us on all that we should know about the studio and the town of Bayeux. Loved the location, within easy walking distance of everything one would want to see, with the added bonus of being situated within steps of a grocery store, restaurants, bakeries, and the tourist office. The studio, with the updated bathroom, was extremely clean and well appointed for up to 2 guests (the space was maximized beautifully and more than met our needs) and had the most comfortable bed in our month-long sojourn in France. Because the ground-floor studio and the neighboring four or five other apartments were situated off the street around a small courtyard, city noise was almost non-existent. During our five-day stay at the end of the tourist season, we never had a problem with accessing everything that we needed. Highly recommend this rental for anyone wanting a great place to come back to after enjoying the many pleasures of historic Bayeux (including the magnificent cathedral and Bayeux Tapestries) and its surrounding areas. Be sure to include time for a one-day tour to the D-Day beaches and another day to visit Mont Saint Michel... superlative!
Small, but very comfortable apartment and it had everything you need. Great location right on the main street in Bayeux. Sally met us at the train and took us to the apartment. We enjoyed our stay at this accommodation.
The apartment is in the perfect location for visiting the town of Bayeux and the D-Day beaches. It is a very short walk to anywhere in Bayeux (we even walked back from dropping off our rental car - not a short walk since it's on the opposite edge of town but it's definitely doable if you're fit, less than a 30 minute walk). Also close to the train station, less than 10 minute walk.
The place was very clean and comfortable, with everything needed either provided or available at the store a couple of doors down. Be aware that soap/shampoo is not provided so either bring your own or buy French as we did!
The courtyard is not "private" as in only for the use of this apartment. You access a shared walkway through a locked door from the street, and there are other apartments (one or two others, I think, upstairs) with access to the courtyard. There were kids playing with a soccer ball right out the window after we checked in on Friday. It was during the day so not a problem. Unfortunately, the upstairs neighbors had a late Friday night and were quite noisy, playing music and walking around for a couple of hours beginning at 2 am. The following two nights were quiet.
Parking was very convenient. Sally and her husband met us upon arrival and walked us to the apartment, showing us how to use everything and orienting us to the area. All in all it was a very pleasant stay in a perfect location.
We were very happy we chose this apartment. First off, Sally was very nice and quick to answer all our communications prior to arrival. Once we arrived, she and her husband were kind enough to meet us at the train station and take us to the apartment and show us all the features.
The apartment was very neat, clean, comfortable and well located. We were near many restaurants, a market and the local sites. Bayeux is a very beautiful and quaint city and we wish we had stayed longer.
Our main reason for staying in Bayeux was to tour the Normandy beaches. The tour we booked started right around the corner which made it so easy.
Sally, thank you!
This centrally located but quiet and very clean apartment worked well for our visit to Bayeux. It was a bit smaller than we expected, but we were comfortable nonetheless and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in bayeux thanks to Sally's studio. Location, location, location! In the center of town near a grocery store, ATM, a ton of restaurants and shops, close to the tapestry museum and the Bayeux cathedral. Near the pick up point for the D Day beaches tour and so close to the ever friendly tourist information office.
Studio Thiaumerie is in the historic centre of Bayeux, less than a 5 minute walk to the cathedral and to the tapestry, which tells the story of William the Conqueror's invasion of England in 1066 and celebrates it's 950th anniversary in 2016. There is also an excellent art and history museum next to the cathedral and tours to the D-Day beaches and Mont St Michel leave less than a 3 minute walk from the apartment.
