A Great Quick Getaway!

Owner was easy to work with. The cabins were clean and spacious. Lake added a nice touch to the location. Overall, it was great place to be away from the cities!!

Served our needs, but not impressive.

  • 2 of 5

We rented as a place for our entire family and grandkids. There are only two bathrooms and a couple of the "bedrooms" were fold out couches or futons. It really wasn't what I expected. The "guest cabin" had a very old smell to it. Beautiful spot.

Fish were biting like crazy. Had everything we needed to feel at home. Cabin was very clean. Neighbors were friendly. Town was close to hit the shops. And the lake scenery was wonderful !!!

A well-kept place, well supplied with amenities. We were sorry to have only three days there.

  • 5 of 5

We were surprised to find so many pans, dishes, utensils, etc. in the kitchen. We brought our own, but would hardly have needed them. Even towels and bedding supplied! The buildings are perfect for our large group, with all possible combinations of sleeping arrangements. We would have liked to stay longer, as there was plenty of space for so many activities, both indoor and outdoor. The fire pit and picnic table were an unexpected benefit, as was the gazebo.

Great time at the lake!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this property. We were a smaller group so did not use the bunk space behind the garage but it looked like a great space if you have a large group of kids or maybe a group of fishermen. We used the main cabin and the guest house and the 2-car garage. The guest house was ideal for our oldest teenager so he could sleep in as long as he wanted and not be disturbed by the rest of us. That was all it was used for by our family but we have stayed at this property before and it makes a nice space for a small family as it does have it's own kitchen and bathroom. It also has a deck off the back. All 3 spaces ("bunkhouse", guest cabin and main cabin) now have satellite tv and the main cabin has a dvd player which is a nice touch. The main cabin has everything you would need from kitchen utensils to bath towels. There is plenty of seating in the 2 connected family rooms (could probably use a little more dining table space). If you are planning on more than 3 people sleeping in the main cabin (maybe 4 if two of them are small folk), you would probably want to consider bringing an air mattress which we have done in the past when we have had larger groups at this property. There is a queen bed in 1 bedroom and a full size (?) in the 2nd bedroom. There is plenty of dock space if you are bringing a large group of fishermen that have several boats. They have added a 2nd dock so a group could pretty easily have 6 boats docked at once. You may have to jockey boats around to get a boat out if you didn't think ahead to who would need out next but it's certainly nice to have that kind of dock space. As far as the lake - we absolutely love Upper Hay Lake (this is our 9th stay on Upper Hay). During the week we are about the only boat on the lake. The fishing was slow this year (in speaking with locals we have gotten to know it has been slow all year) and the water was up, but normally we hammer bass and northern any time of day - that's what we fish for so we love it! Lots of fun things to do in the area that we take advantage of every year from mini-golfing (1 mile) to par 3 golfing(1 mile) to movies(1 mile) to horseback riding(1 mile) to lots of good food options. Our favorite restaurants from over the years are the Old Milwaukee Club (Ideal Corners), Moonlite Bay (Crosslake), and Rafferty's Pizza (Nisswa). Also in Nisswa or Crosslake you have to stop at the Chocolate Ox for candy/ice cream. Our car usually finds it's way there every 3-4 days!
