Spacious studio loft designed with original art work and handcrafted furniture made from reclaimed wood by local artists. The loft consists of living room area, dining area, queen size bedroom area and kitchen area with island & bar stools, microwave, refrigerator & coffee maker. A Balcony is off the rear of the unit & overlooks a garden & gazebo. Located on Red Arrow Highway, the Gallery Loft is centrally located to everything that is Harbor Country; great restaurants (some within walking distance), shops, galleries, garden centers, wineries, breweries & distilleries. Lake Michigan beaches are just a nice stroll or bike ride down lush wooded lanes. Kayaking & canoeing are nearby on the Galien River & famous Warren Dunes State Park is 2 miles away.
Originally from Chicago, we moved here after vacationing here for many years. Harbert is a wonderful, sleepy little community along the shore of Lake Michigan. You can walk to the beach, sit there all day and read or go shopping & sipping in the many galleries, antique shops, restaurants, wineries, within a mile or so, and some within walking distance. We love the quiet beauty of this lush area with so much to offer outdoor enthusiasts as well as those looking for culture, art & fun! We are sure you will enjoy "Harbor Country" as much as we do!!
A unique mid century property with spacious vacation lofts was once the main retail center in Harbert, housing shops, restaurants, galleries, apartments & even a dance hall in the lower level. It has been restored to retain the character, yet offers an artistic look with original works of art and handcrafted furniture and convenient amenities. The location is conveniently located in the heart of Harbor Country, close to everything.
The location is great! A few blocks to Lake Michigan beaches, walking distance to a few restaurants, galleries & shops, a short drive to everything Harbor Country has to offer! The studio loft is a cozy getaway that feels private and is a great alternative to a typical hotel room.
My husband and I spent two nights at the Gallery Loft in Harbert. Quietly unassuming from the front entrance, the inside is spacious and accommodating. There are distinct areas for dining, relaxing and sleeping in the wide open studio. The kitchen area is perfect for coffee, cocktails and heating up leftovers. The original artwork and furniture is stunning and truly completes this space.
The location is great-not far from several beaches, quaint towns and restaurants.
Our hosts, Jan and Bob, reside next door and are quite informative about the area.
We would definitely stay again!
Gallery loft was perfect for me. Located to many adjoining beach towns up the shoreline. I will definitely be back with my daughter.
Jan was Awesome. Met me upon my arrival and answered all questions regarding nearby towns and beaches, local events going on and restaurants go to.
We loved our visit at the Gallery Loft. Everything was waiting for us when we arrived. We were immediately greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. It had all the amenities of home we were looking for. It was decorated very nicely with pleasing artwork and eclectic furniture. High speed internet was readily available. The location was easy to get to and close to everything. We had a wonderful stay. Would highly recommend.
If you're looking for luxury, this is not it. However, if you're looking for a place to stay for a weekend getaway, this will do. It feels a little like indoor camping due to the very rustic nature of the building and decor. Almost everything is constructed from bits and pieces of things.
Some pros: it was quiet, conveniently located, and there was a bottle of wine waiting when we checked in. Very thoughtful!
Some cons: the shower barely fits one average-sized adult, there were tons of cobwebs everywhere, and the floor is pieced-together plywood so we always kept our shoes on.
Overall it was fine.
We were a bit disappointed by the accomodations. The loft was clean but that is about the best we can say. It was certainly not a place we wanted to spend any amount of time or that we will stay again. The floors were painted plywood, the shower a camper shower and the electrical was interesting to say the least. We were not confident that the delapitated deck would hold us and we really had no desire to sit there and look at the overgrown weed infested " garden" anyway. We went to Michigan to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we're looking for a nice place to stay that was not your typical hotel room. We would have been better off in a hotel room. Bob and Jan are super nice but the place is just ok at best.
The loft was in a good, central location-- close the beach and easy to find. It was tidy although the linens need updating. There was plenty of space. Our issue was the heat. We realize the owners cannot control the weather, but the window AC unit could not cool the entire loft. This made for an uncomfortable night's sleep.
Harbor Country is loaded with tourist delights such as antique shops, fruit markets, boutiques, galleries, wineries, breweries, distilleries, live theater, parks, nature preserves, hiking & biking trails, kayaking & canoeing. Lake Michigan with township beaches is only 7 blocks, Warren Dunes State Park is 2 miles, & Four Winds Casino is 5 miles. Many charming towns along the Lake are all accessible from Red Arrow Hwy, the main road thru Harbor Country. Great restaurants such as Luisa's Cafe, Cafe Gullistan & Capozio's are walking distance with many others within a short distance. Don't miss historic Three Oaks' famous Journeyman distillery & restaurant, 100 year old Driers Market with homemade meats, cheeses & sauces, Froelichs with homemade goodies of all kinds and many galleries & shops as well as Elm Street Bistro, Conways and Pleasant House, all charming eateries in the center of town.
