In the heart of the East Neuk, beside the coastal path and close to great golf.

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Lovely 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage, very well equipped and all on one level

Mill View Cottage is perfectly situated just a few hundred yards from the picturesque Fife Coastal Path, half way between St Monans and Pittentweem, and only a 20 min drive from St Andrews. Mill View is a newly renovated, immaculately presented traditional cottage with a large private garden and courtyard parking for four cars. The accommodation is all on one level and is suitable for guests with restricted mobility. The view across the sea to North Berwick with the historic windmill of St.Monans in the foreground is just breathtaking.

Providing a stylish comfortable retreat, the spacious, contemporary interior has been thoughtfully furnished with ample seating in the lounge and dining kitchen for six/seven. There are three spacious bedrooms, one with a super king bed, one with a king size bed, and one with twin beds. The two largest beds are Sealy posturepedic beds with Nostromo pillow top mattresses. They are very spacious and comfortable and should ensure an excellent night's sleep, something that many of our guests have appreciated. The twin beds from M&S are also very comfy amd suitable for adults or children. There is also a full height single aerobed for a seventh guest and a full sized cot, both available on request.

The bedrooms are arranged in two 'wings' on either side of the lounge with the double bedroom and bathroom in one wing and the other two bedrooms and shower room in the other. The bathroom and shower room are recently fitted out with luxury sanitary ware.

The cottage has Sky TV, this will include cinema and sports packages throughout the summer season, free wifi, Alexa with Music Unlimited and an ample selection of books, games, jigsaws etc for guests to use. There is also a set of golf clubs, picnic basket and cool box for guests. For colder days and evenings, there is a wood burning stove with wood supplied. There is a large decked area in the beautiful garden with garden furniture, parasol and outdoor lighting.

Best of all, however, are the wonderful panoramic sea views. It can be hard to tear yourself away from them to go exploring but well worth doing!

St Monans itself is a traditional harbour village overlooking the Firth of Forth, with spectacular views across to North Berwick, The Isle of May and Bass Rock. You can explore the streets and lanes, historic buildings, the old windmill that once powered the salt panning industry and the beautiful, old 14th Century church. Pittenweem has more shops, coffee shops, art galleries and a busy harbour selling fresh fish daily. There are a number of places in St.Monans selling freshly caught local seafood too, or you can catch your own from the sea front. There is a good local hotel in St. Monans, the very popular East Pier Smoke House selling fantastic lobster and an excellent seafood restaurant.

The Fife Coastal Path is just a stone's throw from the cottage , dotted with pretty fishing villages and many sandy beaches and coves to visit along the way. Pittenweem, St.Monans and Anstruther are all within easy walking distance of the cottage.

Activities for all interests can be found locally: fine golf courses, sandy beaches, watersports, art exhibitions, historic houses and gardens. This area is famous for golf with more than 40 courses in Fife, from the famous fairways of St. Andrews to the more traditional links courses and beautifully landscaped parkland and heathland courses. There are also numerous tennis courts nearby including St.Monans and Elie.

Just at the foot of the road, beside the steps to the coastal path, is Pathhead Nurseries. This is an excellent, well stocked garden centre linked to their own farm. It doesn't have a coffee shop, though there are plenty in the area, but it does sell freshly laid farm eggs from their own hens. It also has some fresh fruit and vegetables. Ardross farm shop is a short distance away and is a foodie's paradise with plenty of locally sourced artisan products. Bowhouse food market is a 2 minute drive and it has regular weekend food festivals.

There are sandy beaches a short drive away, we like Elie Beach and Kingsbarns Beach. Shopping wise, St.Andrews and Anstruther have a large variety of shops with the smaller villages having lovely gift and interior shops and essentials such as bakers, butchers, grocers etc.

Mill View Cottage is a warm, welcoming and comfortable retreat whatever the season. Nestled beside the Fife coastal path it really is a walker’s paradise and a great place to come home to at the end of a busy day. Heaven!

About Mrs Jeanette Smart

My husband and I both work in Education and live in Paisley. We have owned our beautiful property in the East Neuk for 15 years and have had many wonderful family holidays there.

Mrs Jeanette Smart purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Mrs Jeanette Smart chose Anstruther

Our children have now grown up and we are finding that we are using the property less often. We couldn't bear to sell it so we've renovated it from top to bottom and are now ready to become hosts which is an exciting new chapter for us. We are really looking forward to welcoming guests to Mill View Cottage and I know they will enjoy it as much as we have.

What makes this cottage unique

Without a doubt, the beautiful views are the best thing about our property. Countryside or sea vistas from almost every window makes it a truly beautiful place to relax. The light is just wonderful and the paint colours in the lounge never seem to look the same from one day to the next!

Another feature of Mill View is that it sits in a wonderful position exactly half way between Pittenweem and St.Monans and just a few hundred yards from the coastal path. It's lovely to go down to the path and then think .....which way today? Either way - you won't be disappointed.

We've worked hard to make the cottage comfortable and stylish and it has been furnished and decorated to a high standard. Most of the furniture and accessories have been purchased in the past year from Laura Ashley. The bathrooms have high quality fittings such as Mira showers and Villeroy and Bosch sanitary ware. We want our visitors to feel pampered and delighted with their choice.

We are very close to the coastal path so walkers and dogs just love it! We are also close to excellent golf courses including Crail, Kingsbarns and St.Andrew's. The area is great for food and drink lovers as there are lovely restaurants, farm shops, distilleries and artisan food outlets.

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

House beautifully presented, spotless....great layout. Rooms all a good size and the extra bathroom is a bonus. Everything you need and more, Jeanette has covered all the bases. We loved the enclosed garden with the sea view. Location is good, in country but easy to get everywhere from there, public buses available if wanted. 20 mins from St Andrews and coastal path at bottom of road. We will be back next year we hope.

Fantastic home in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful holiday home, very tastefully decorated with high quality furnishings.

We stayed here with 3 generations and it would suit all ages as the house is all on one level. So ideal for anyone who has mobility issues or very young children. This is the first place we have stayed where the garden is truly dog friendly, we have a jack russell and even she couldn't find a way to escape.

The views are truly stunning from the garden and we enjoyed sitting and watching the abundant wildlife and sunsets.

We booked the property at very short notice and Jeanette always responded very quickly and was very helpful to ensure we had a fabulous stay.

Great location with so many beautiful coastal towns to enjoy and very peaceful. We would love to stay here again.

If you like class you will love this cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to be greeted by the owner Jeanette and given all the information we needed for our stay. The cottage is absolutely wonderful. Everything was pristine and well cared for, the furnishings fixtures and fittings were all top quality. Nothing was missing from this beautiful home. The only criticism I can give is that I never wanted to get out of those extremely comfortable beds. The fish and chips are lovely but not from the famous fish cafe in Anstruther, Jeanette recommended the fish bar in Pitenweem and I have to say they are much better and lots cheaper. The beaches in the East Nuek are well cared for clean, and on the whole nearly empty. If you like peace and quiet this is the place for you. If you have dogs it is heaven. Go to the Cambo estate and gardens, they are stunning and the great little cafe welcomes dogs.. We will be back.

Lovely property in a great location

  • 4 of 5

Had a lovely relaxed weekend. The coastal path is minutes from the house and we took advantage of the lovely weather to stroll to St Monans and Pitenweem, exploring these harbour towns and buying supplies for dinner from the baker and smoke house etc. The garden is dog friendly and wee Stuart the westie enjoyed being able to run about as we ate al fresco. The house is very well equipped, comfortable and welcoming. I would also like to thank Jeanette, the host, for being so accommodating when our original booking had to be rescheduled at very short notice due to the extreme weather conditions experienced by Scotland in March. Added to our list of places we'd love to return to.

Anstruther Fish Bar
Ardross Farm Shop
East Pier
Car: recommended

Visitors will love walking on the famous Fife Coastal Path or playing golf in one of the many renowned golf courses in and around St. Andrews. The area is also a food lovers paradise with great restaurants nearby. There is a local cheese farm making 'Ainster' Cheese which has a lovely restaurant and the renowned Ardross Farm with its fabulous food shop is just a few minutes by car. Pittenweem and St.Monans both sell freshly landed fish each morning and St.Monans 'East Pier' serves delicious food including their own smoked lobster. Kingsbarns Distillery Tour makes a great day out as does the tour of Eden Mill distillery just beyond St. Andrews. Of course St. Andrews itself is a fabulous town with its many attractions and is just a 15 minute drive from the cottage.
