Piopolis is 2.5 hours from Montreal and Quebec City, near the border with the United States (Coburn Gore, Maine), 90 minutes from the Sugarloaf USA golf and ski resort and 3 hours from Portland or Bangor Maine.

The entrance to Trout Lake is at 789 chemin de la rivière Bergeron (route 263), 5 kilometers south of the village of Piopolis.

Ideal for groups of 6 or more, the cottage has 6 rooms with 2 single beds each, for a maximum capacity of 12 people.

It has one bathroom toilet with a shower or should you wish for more privacy, Cherry Hill, our outhouse, is a short distance away.

The kitchen comes complete with a refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven, microwave and necessary cutlery, dishes, pots and pans.

The living room and dining room area is spacious with bay windows and a large granite fireplace, large dining table, a card table, bar, couch and chairs.

Our large lakeside porch offers a tremendous view of the lake and mountains in the distance.

There is a propane gas BBQ and outdoor wood fire pits for warmth and pleasure.

The property has a private 50 acre lake with a wild brook trout population. We ONLY allow fly fishing, with guiding and instructional weekends offered for an additional fee. Two rowboats and a canoe are available for your paddling pleasure. The property has many marked walking trails (snowshoeing or skiing in the winter) and allows you to safely get out and enjoy the natural surroundings.

About Michael Stearns

Michael grew up in Lake Megantic, spending most weekends and free time at the cottage. He knows the surrounding woods intimately and has a strong desire to preserve and share this heritage family property.

Michael and his wife Karen wish to offer a quintessential Canadian cottage experience in this very natural environment.

Why Michael Stearns chose Quebec

The property, including 400 acres and the private lake, has been in the family since the late 1800s. The surrounding forest is mostly sugar maple with magnificent white pine breaking through the canopy.

You come here for peace and quiet, and to enjoy the natural wonders.

What makes this cottage unique

The spectacular views from the cottage, the walking trial around the lake, the nearby Scotchcap Mountain trail.

We have fat native brook trout (we don't stock the lake) up to 18 inches which we protect by allowing fly-fishing exclusively.

Think fly-fishing is too difficult? Come for our introductory weekend courses, you'll come away with a passion for the sport which will last a lifetime.

Just what each of us needed!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Trout Lake last week with 6 family members and friends. Everyone loved it there. Plenty of space to spread out and roam around for alone time, AND so much to do together! Great base to explore the area. Although it's not necessary to ever leave the cottage and property, if you are itching to get out for a day, Quebec is an easy drive , and Mont Megantic National Park is just around the corner! Michael and Karen were great hosts, with a wealth of information on the local area. We miss it, and their sweet dog Motley, already. Trout Lake comes highly recommended from everyone in our party!
