New cabin for rent. There is a comfortable porch with mountain view, bbq, and fire pit for smores. The cabin has open floor plan with 2 queen beds, full kitchen with cooking supplies needed, bathroom with shower, hairdryer, ceiling fans, private parking. This property is close to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell, Red Cave Slot Canyon, and a half days drive to the north rim of the Grand Canyon.
Elaine Dering is the host of this property and lives on the property. She built the cabin in 2012 as a way to host family, friends, and travelers wanting to enjoy the nature and beauty of Southern Utah.
The property has been in the family for generations back to the 1800's. It was owned by Elaine's mother, and passed to her from her grandparents.
Elaine's cabin is a slice of heaven. The cabin is perfect for a family of four or fewer. it is equipped with everything you will need. It is perfectly situated outside the east gate of Zion National Park. Start your day early and you can reach the North Rim of the Grand Canyon or Bryce National Park. It is within 20 minutes of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, the largest no-kill animal shelter in the country. Check out Bestfriends.org to volunteer before you visit. It is an unlifting experience to see how lovingly all the animals are cared for !
Our stay there was very enjoyable. Will go back again next year ( or sooner). A great getaway.
My family of four had a stay here for four nights on our road trip through Nevada and Utah. It was a wonderful location, perfect distance for enjoying both Bryce Canyon and Zion National park. Beautifully decorated interior! It is a studio type cabin with both beds in the "living room" area, no couch for sitting but there is a table and chairs and the bed, which worked fine for us. The view out the front door was beautiful, especially during sunset.
Bottom line I would definitely stay here again with my family. 4 people maximum is about what would fit, we traveled with two children and it was just fine.
We had a really lovely stay at Elaine's cabin in Mt. Carmel Junction. We stayed two nights and ended up spending a good amount of time lounging in the cabin because of scattered storms. The cabin is a dream - very comfortable, beautifully decorated, functional for a family of four, and romantic for a couple. It was owned by her grandfather Tait (located on Tait lane), and it is seeping with family history, including a couple of portraits. Elaine provides firewood for an evening well spent staring at the sun setting over the mountains. She has a family of deer who come to eat her fruit trees when it gets quiet.
As others mentioned, the property is right on the freeway in Mt. Carmel Junction - so pretty easy to reach, but very minimal car noise (and I am a light sleeper!) and the stargazing was a tiny bit obscured by a bright light next to one of the houses. For chilly nights, there is a powerful heater which can also double as a hair dryer. You can make most essential cabin meals with the pots and pans provided.
Yes, Zion and Bryce are close - and we visited both again for a few days of 15+ mi hikes, but there are also local off-the-beaten path options for the adventure-inclined. Finding and canyoneering in Red Cave Slot Canyon is a beautiful, semi-difficult adventure in itself. We also met Elaine's brother Mike (he lives across the street!), who kindly drove us to check out a trailhead at the hike called The Barracks. Due to thunderstorms, we didn't get to do this hike - but can guarantee you won't see many people out on BLM land.
If you like staying with good people instead of in a motel, slowing down, and detoxing from the daily hustle (however, the wifi was quite strong/fast) - book now! We would stay again in a heartbeat.
Just returned from Utah and stayed at this cozy cabin. Don't usually take the time to write a review but this place is a little piece of heaven that you shouldn't hesitate to book. Great location to tour Zion, Bryce and Antelope Canyon in Lake Powell is a must see. The pictures you see is exactly what you get and very clean. Elaine greeted us with fresh tomatoes from the greenhouse and was there if we needed anything but you felt like you had the property to yourself. Would return in a heartbeat.
We stayed at Deer Crossing during our recent summer vacation, seeing Utah's Mighty Five national Parks. We used this location as our base for seeing Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park. This cabin has a gorgeous view of the Sugar Knoll photographed by Ansel Adams. We were concerned with the noise of traffic from the highway, but that was not an issue. We used the air conditioner at night and the fan from the air conditioner was perfect for muffling any traffic noise from the highway. Our son is a photographer and got some fantastic photos from both Bryce Canyon and Zion. We're hoping to share some with Elaine after he finishes processing the photos. Elaine, our host, was very friendly and shared several stories about the property and made us feel very welcome. She asked us to call her if we needed anything during our stay. We used the kitchen for our breakfast and evening meals. Elaine recommended that we try the new German bakery in Orderville. What a wonderful suggestion! I stopped there every day during our stay. We used rolls from the bakery for our lunchtime sandwiches for our day at Zion National Park. Delicious! We used the firepit on our final night and roasted marshmallows over the fire. Elaine had recently added a roof over the patio. That will be a wonderful addition to her cabin. We were amazed by all the things to see in the area and plan to be back.
Close to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell, and Red Cave Slot Canyon. A great place for hiking and enjoying the southwest.
