Why Carrie Stapleton chose Florida Central Gulf Coast

We bought this property because we wanted to be close to the beach and really liked the safe area of Madeira Beach and the proximity to restaurants and shops. It is 1.1 miles from John's Pass too!

What makes this house unique

Two car garage, elevator to all 3 floors, open floor plan, giant windows, terrace to people watch and see the surf. The bones of the house are top notch and the light-filled living areas have a great aura.

Great home for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for 5 days the week following Christmas 2016 for a family get-together (8 adults and a toddler). The house is well furnished, attractive, and comfortable. The main floor (it’s really the second floor of the 3 story house) has a large master bedroom with large en suite bath, a laundry room, and the rest of the floor has an open plan with the kitchen and a large main living/dining area (L-shaped around the kitchen). The other 3 bedrooms are upstairs on the third floor. Two share a bathroom and there’s third bathroom across the hall from the fourth bedroom. There’s a balcony off the third floor overlooking Gulf Boulevard. We were able to see fireworks (seemingly in all directions) from that balcony at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

It’s a short walk from the house to a pedestrian crossing to the beach side of Gulf Boulevard. The beach was delightful. You can rent chairs and paddleboards right there, and the gulf water in late December was warm enough that my sons and I rented a couple of paddleboards for our first attempt at that sport. In the 2-car garage on the first floor you will find beach toys, umbrellas, and a little cart to use for hauling your belongings to the beach. There’s also a back porch that we didn’t have a chance to use. And there’s an elevator that is useful for transporting your luggage to the other floors.

This house was very welcoming for our family gathering. It is light and airy, a pleasant place to hang out and a good base from which to launch day trips to local attractions. Carrie, the owner, was responsive to my questions and prompt with refunding our security deposit. Tip for seafood lovers, I recommend that you visit Madeira Beach Seafood, a few blocks down Gulf Boulevard. They get their fish right off the boats that come there to unload, so it’s very fresh. They also have beautiful frozen Key West Pink shrimp.

TP Mayhem at Casa de Luz

  • 2 of 5

My family and I spent a few days during the December 2016 Holiday. We live in sunny South Florida but wanted to spend the holidays away from home without leaving the state.

Pros:

First off the house looks just like the pictures posted. There are 3 floors with garage and main entrance on the 1st, bedroom and kitchen on the 2nd, and 3 bedrooms on the 3rd. There is an elevator which came in very helpful getting my grandmother between floors.

Cons:

To begin I received a “Check-in/ Check-out” list via email from the owner/co-owner prior to our arrival of things we should and should not do while staying at the property. Ex. Take out the trash, place garbage container in front of the garage, start laundry, leave fans on, do dishes, cleaning stove, and put furniture back to exact spots if moved. The list was very off-putting and not a good way to begin our vacation. It made us feel like we were earning our stay. The refrigerator was smelly and contained expired condiments. The icemaker was disgusting and could not be used. None of the bathrooms had toilet paper so we had to scramble to find as stores were closed due to Christmas day. I tried contacting the owner the night before we were to leave, and no one responded until 9:30am the following day… keep in mind that our check-out time was 10:00am as listed on the “Check-in/check-out list”.

Suggestion:

I think the property has potential due to the size and location; however a walk through should be done prior to every guest arrival to ensure that bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned with cleaning products, linens are clean and there is adequate toiletry provided. A welcome email or text would also help to make your guests feel welcomed.

In reading the past reviews posted for this property I expected a better experience. I would not do this again. For the money spent, my family and I would have had a better time staying at a hotel where we would not need to be up at the crack of dawn to: start laundry, clean, do dishes, take out garbage and make sure we are checked out by 10am sharp!! Believe me the owners were at the property at 10am prompt.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, we had just hired new housekeepers after the others were not keeping our home to our standards. We did not do a walk through before and should have, you are right. As to the check in and out, we have frequently had tenants who just leave the trash and never put it out. We have some tenants who have time to start the towels and some that don't have time. It states "if you have time" in our check out. We never ask anyone clean the stove except the housekeepers. The check in/out evolves as our guests do. You arrived on a Thursday, you were provided w/ my cell before you arrived. If there were issues before, why did you chose to email Christmas night? You were leaving the next day. You wanted to know why I didn't call you to see how your stay was going. In the 2 years we have been doing this you are the first one to be upset about that. We give people their privacy, that's what VRBO is all about. Maybe a hotel would have been better for your group of 8 but it would have cost you much more. Thanks for keeping us on our toes, it's important to provide the best experience we can for our guests now and into the future. Carrie

Beautiful home enhanced our family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We decided to do a family vacation where we could all stay together and feel like we were home! This property did just that! Plenty of room for six adults and two kids to relax at home, enjoy the beach and take in the surrounding areas! Kitchen was great for us to cook family meals and room for all of us to eat together! Couldn't have found a better place for our family vacation! The owner was attentive and readily answered any questions we had!

The home is beautiful! Lots of extras such as beach wagon, beach towels, full kitchen stocked, grill, outdoor shower. We did have some air conditioning issues, but the property manager promptly came out to resolve!

Location

Our house is located about a mile from John's Pass w/ multiple shops and restaurants. There are also many beachy restaurants and bars on both sides of the Gulf Blvd to check out in either direction from the house. A convenience store is 1 door down and the Publix grocery is located in Maderia Shopping Center 1 1/2 miles away. Menus are provided to some restaurants within walking distance and also food delivery places are furnished in our owners book for you to review. St. Petersburg downtown area is alive w/ activities and events. Some of the highlights would be the Dali Museum, the Chihuly Collection of magnificent of glass. There is the St. Pete Museum of Fine Arts, countless galleries and eateries and bars.
