Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath; Short walk to town center.

Fully renovated, and all new furnishings in 2013. It doesn't get much better than this for style and proximity. Hydrangea Hill (circa, 1898) is located on a quiet street less than a half-mile walking distance to downtown Lenox, and only two miles to Tanglewood's main entrance. The yard offers a garden atmosphere with a lightly wooded wetland area on the back and side. You'll recognize it immediately by the picket fence curving around the front as the brick walkway leads you to the front door. The house features three bedrooms, each with quality linens and new mattresses; one with twin beds, one with a queen bed, and a master suite with a queen bed. You'll love the master bathroom, which features a Carrara marble top, double vanity, and large walk-in glass and tile shower with a spa bench. Without a doubt, the best feature in the house is the large open living space and fully equipped modern kitchen with all you need for a family gathering or for cooking an intimate gourmet meal. The farmhouse style table is 10 feet long and easily seats 1O-12. For movies at home or sports followers, you'll love the LG 55" Ultra Smart HDTV and Wifi throughout the house. Other amenities include, a guest bath upstairs near bedrooms, a half bath on the main floor with laundry facilities, and a brick-paved patio with comfortable wicker outdoor seating. You'll love the Berkshires and all that Hydrangea Hill has to offer.

About Alan G Billingsley

For nearly twenty-five years I worked as a professional legislative staff person for the State Legislature in Albany, NY. Every chance we had we would visit the beautiful Berkshires and participate in all the area had to offer. After moving to Florida twenty years ago, and spending portions of each summer in the Berkshires, my wife and I agreed how lovely it would be to own a home there and both use it ourselves and share it with people who also loved the area.

Alan G Billingsley purchased this house in 2013

Why Alan G Billingsley chose Lenox

My wife spent a week in April 2013 looking at every house for sale in the area, and after seeing Hydrangea Hill, knew this was the house she wanted. Most of the end of that year and a good portion of 2014 was spent transforming the house into the home she envisioned. Hydrangea Hill was born. Unfortunately, she became critically ill and recently passed away not actually getting to spend a summer and fall in the house, but she did see it completed and for a brief period, participated in very happy gatherings of friends and family at the house. I want to fulfill her wish to share our good fortune by offering the premises for rent during various times of the year. P.S. All the African animal pictures downstairs and bird pictures in one of the guest bedrooms, were taken by my wife while on safari in 2004.

What makes this house unique

Yankee Magazine's article, "15 Prettiest Winter Villages in New England" begins with Lenox. "Set in the bucolic Berkshire hills, this walking village is renowned for it's architecturally-diverse churches, farm-to-table restaurants, and high-end boutiques selling art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, and crafts." Hydrangea Hill is a short walking distance to downtown Lenox;, five minute car ride to Tanglewood Music Festival and Shakespeare & Company; easily accessible to Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, Berkshire Bach Society, Berkshire Theater Group, Mac-Haydn Theater, Mass MoCA, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Arrowhead, the home of Herman Melville, Chesterwood, home of sculpture artist Daniel Chester French, Norman Rockwell Museum, The Mount, home to Edith Wharton, poet William Cullen Bryant's Homestead, the Berkshire Botanical Garden, The Clark Art Institute, Susan B Anthony Birthplace Museum, and the annual Norman Rockwell Festival in Stockbridge and tree lighting ceremony in Lenox the first weekend of every December . Family fun!

Cozy home, perfect for our family's holiday celebration.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Hydrangea Hill. The home is comfortable and the layout is open and inviting. We arrived right after a snow storm and the neighborhood and town looked like a Christmas card. The house has a perfect mix of modern amenities and classic charm. Hopefully, we will get back to see the house in the summer and explore the region a bit more.

Owner's Response: Thank you Tish for your warm and heart-felt review. It was always my plan to share Hydrangia Hill with guests and now that it is a reality, your words give affirmation of all the efforts to help make stays there fun and memorable for families, couples and individuals alike. If another opportunity arises for you to come back and take advantage of everything the area has to offer during another season of the year, I would be very pleased and welcoming. All the best, Alan

A true home from home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful house for 4 nights as part of a 3 week road trip around New England. The house has been lovingly renovated to an very high standard with care taken to ensure that it feels like a home rather than a house and is very well equipped. The beautiful town of Lenox is within walking distance and has a range of eateries, Vent Fort House, (which is also being lovingly renovated) and a range of easily accessible parks for strolling around. We would highly recommend this property to any party of 6 or less and thank Alan for allowing us to share the home that he and his late wife have created.

Our Berkshire home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second visit to Hydrangea Hill because we so loved the comfort, style and cozy atmosphere of this wonderful home. It's the perfect walking distance to Lenox. And Alan, the owner, has maintained it beautifully. You'll feel like a welcome guest in every way.

Is there another star?

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place just big enough for our immediate family--5 going on 6--but with enough space to comfortably host guests for coffee. Hydrangea Hill was perfect. It is cozy and comfortable, but the living and dining room are designed to accommodate a group nicely. Everything is fresh and cheerful. We felt at home from the moment we walked in the door. It is an easy walk from here to all the Lenox restaurants, and to the hiking trails that start behind the church on the hill. (Not much parking, but that was not an issue for us.) Alan was more than helpful getting us oriented and settled. I hate to leave.

Beautiful,well equipped, lovely house!

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the top homes we've rented. Great location walking distance from downtown Lenox and sooo close to Tanglewood. The house was well equipped (a hair dryer would be nice, though) and the linens and furnishings couldn't have been nicer. Yes the unfinished dining table is a bit of a challenge but you get used to coasters...perhaps a table runner? Having chairs and a cooler provided for a picnic at Tanglewood and other outings was also a thoughtful plus. The cooktop fan was also a bit of a challenge as the grill does a great job but the fan is not up to the task...every time we used it the smoke detectors went off. But really these are minor concerns for a house that is so lovingly furnished and maintained. A true gem in the Berkshires...we hope to return!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the lovely comments. My apologies for a lack of a hairdryer, the situation will be resolved this week. As I am follically challenged, a hairdryer was not in my radar. But that is why comments and reviews are welcome in order that I can be enlightened.
