We've been selected as one of Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay 2018.

Find us under 'Le Mas de la Colline' at

The Mas de la Colline is an intimate traditional stone farmhouse several hundred years old, nestled on a hillside with a commanding view of the perched village of Seillans.

Lovers of old stones will be able to discern traces of other dwelling foundations (including what was probably an ice-house) scattered around the property. It sits on an age-old drove road along which, in time-honoured tradition, flocks were moved up to their summer pastures in the Alps.

The main house comprises three bedrooms (see layout below), one of them under eaves with limited head-room, ideal for older children. An adjacent annexe houses a further en-suite bedroom and living room.

Recently lovingly restored to respect its Provencal and rural character, the Mas de la Colline, offers every modern comfort including air-conditioning, wifi and satellite TV. French doors open from the kitchen onto a magnificent terrace enabling guests to dine outdoors surrounded by stunning views of the countryside.

Full of atmosphere, both the house and its vast garden offer plenty of charming little ‘secret’ areas in which to relax and dream the hours away…..

The house comfortably houses 8 people. The rooms are laid out as follows.

Bedroom 1: 1 x Large double bed, air-conditioned, with wardrobe and room for a cot.

Bedroom 2: 1 x Large double bed, air-conditioned, en-suite shower and separate wardrobe area.

Bedroom 3: 1 x Large double bed, 1 x Sofa bed/futon, air-conditioned. As it is under eaves it has limited headroom.

Bedroom 4: In adjacent annexe. 1 x Large double bed, air-conditioned, with wardrobe and room for a cot. En-suite shower/WC

About Alex and Christina

Totalling five different nationalities between them, Alex and Christina live in the UK. Alex is a documentary producer and Christina, who also has a media background, is a writer. Much travelled and of multi-lingual background, Alex was brought up mainly in the south of France. His family still live in Fayence and the couple were married in its village church. He seizes every opportunity to return to his childhood haunts and has an intimate knowledge of the region. Christina revels in the area’s beauty and finds its tranquillity fuels her creativity.

Cosy and enchanting

We stayed in this lovely house over Christmas with our family and couldn’t have been happier. It’s a wonderful, cosy, traditional house that is beautifully decorated. We loved having our breakfast on the terrace as even though it was December it faces south and basks in the sun.The views from the terrace over to the village of Seillans was like something from a nativity scene, especially at night. There’s a wonderful sense of peace and tranquility which was quite magical. The smell of the pine trees added an extra Christmassy touch!

We’d love to come back in summer and make the most of that very inviting looking pool! The views are simply gorgeous!

Beautiful house in idyllic quiet location

What is there not to say about this house. It has been modernised whilst keeping all the authentic charm of a traditional Mas and with tasteful decor throughout. It looks beautiful from the outside but inside it is like a tardis which is a lovely surprise. The hidden stairs to the attic bedroom add to its charm.

The annex is a treasure with its own lounge, en suite bedroom and mini terrace. If you are in a group but want your own space, this is the place for you.

For eating outside you have the choice of the front under the shade of the huge Wisteria with views of the upper gardens and across to the pool. Or, on the large terrace at the rear with views of the lush hills and beautiful village of Seillans. The terrace is a sun trap and with a choice of table and chairs or sofas and coffee table, it is the perfect place to be whether you are in a group or for quiet alone time.

I've saved the best until last. The pool. This is a few steps from the house so any pool excitement won't spoil quiet time elsewhere on the property. The pool is a good size with plenty of seating and space around it. There is yet another super view down the hill. At night the gardens to the front and side have lighting, including the pool so you can enjoy the pool and gardens even after dark.

The incline up to the house is short and fairly sharp, so if you fancy a little exercise then walking, or cycling up it will help your training.

As this is a peaceful get away from it location, there are no shops in the immediate vicinity. However, local bakeries and Super U are a couple of Kilometres away, E L'Eclerc and others a little further. Two minutes in the car, a couple more by bicycle or a nice half hour stroll, to fetch your morning pastry and baguette from Fayence.

At the bottom of the hill, the quieter back road is a lovely way to reach Fayence going left, or Seillans turning right. The surrounding area has something for everyone. The beach at Frejus, aqua parks, the high Alps and Marseille are all drivable for a day visit. With my favourites of Bargamon and Mons very close.

All in all. If we could live there forever, we would.
