Restored house with private pool and views to the wooded hillside and small lake

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,345 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 shower rooms, sleeps 5 with private pool, small lake and views

This is a privately owned second home in France, completely refurbished and redesigned. It is in an elevated position, overlooking its own large, private floodlit swimming pool, and small lake. It is beautifully designed and landscaped for outside living and furnished and equipped to a high standard as a home, not as a gite. It faces due south for all day sunshine.

Set in the tiny hamlet of Bariats, it is an eight minute drive from the picturesque 13th century bastide town of Villereal, with its full shopping facilities, good restaurants and weekly markets.

Monpazier and Beaumont bastides are fifteen minutes away and the wonderful sites and activities of the Dordogne valley are only a half hour drive away. The immediate area is fascinating to explore, with its medieval towns, such as Issigeac, villages and castles. Splendid local restaurants provide regional specialities and range from simple family style to French Gourmet cuisine.

The property provides a private paradise.

The house has been completely refurbished and continues to be attentively maintained. It is fitted out to a high standard as the owners' second home. It has an open plan Kitchen with good and plentiful crockery, cutlery, glasses and kitchen equipment, including cook books for inspiration so you can take advantage of the wonderful local produce. There is a Dining Area to seat six and a comfortable sitting area with a fireplace and log burner. Should you need respite from outdoor living you will find a range of books, DVDs, CDs, TV with digital channels, games, land-line and free WiFi. The Kitchen and dining area both open onto the Covered Terrace.

The Covered Terrace looks down over your pool terrace to the small lake and the thickly wooded hillside beyond. This is a true “outdoor room”, 25 square metres in size, with an additional dining table and chairs together with a relaxing sitting area. The terrace has glazing and blinds at one side to protect from the elements so that whatever the weather you can enjoy outdoor living for your entire holiday. There is a constantly changing view over the lake, with its resident moorhen family and other visitors - herons, mallards, jays, occasional deer- (binoculars provided!), and a great view of the sunset down the valley. There is gentle lighting for when the sun goes down, together with candle holders if you want to create a romantic setting! You can tell we are a little in love with our terrace - we think you will be too.

The two double bedrooms with king sized beds have french windows opening onto the ground level terrace and pool area. . Both bedrooms have good storage space and for occasional use there is electric heating throughout. In addition there is a small bedroom/dressing room with a double bed.

Quality bed-linen and luxury towels are provided, and a change of linen is available mid way through a 2 week stay.

Outside, you have a choice of landscaped areas in which to relax; the mellow terracotta garden terrace, the pool terrace, the decked terrace to one side, shaded from the afternoon heat; and even a “boules” pitch! There are abundant herbs in the garden for cooking and in season, figs for the picking.

The 11 x 5 metres swimming pool has in-pool lighting for evening dips.

There is a pretty Pool House to one side providing a summer kitchen with washing machine, fridge for poolside drinks and adjacent barbecue, plus the second shower/wet room .

A lavender bordered path leads to the meadow and lake which is private to the property. An evening stroll round the lake is recommended to take in the sunset and views down the valley. From the lake you can follow the “chemin rural” up into the woods. Here is said to be sited a ruined medieval castle – we confess we have never discovered the remains!

Two minutes walk away there is a large reservoir/lake, providing delightful walks and further bird watching opportunities.

You have complete privacy, with no sharing of the pool and no resident owners. The caretakers are just a phone call away if you have any queries or problems. Both pool and garden are maintained regularly.

Our best family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week at Plein Sud with our kids ages 13 & 11, and we had an absolutely fabulous holiday! We spent most of our time on the terrace, just off the kitchen, admiring the quiet countryside or watching the kids splash around in the pool. The terrace was large and comfortable, and a lovely place to escape the heat of the day. The house was tidy and clean with plenty of space for the 4 of us to spread out. The kitchen had all of the amenities needed to make proper meals, and the terrace grill and charcoal BBQ only enhanced the cooking possibilities. Alison and Dave also provided a folder filled with all the information necessary for the house as well as recommendations for sightseeing, restaurants and other activities. We visited several of the nearby bastide villages & markets, toured one of the prehistoric cave sites, and canoed on the Vezere. But most of the time, we stayed close to the house, swimming, reading or trying to catch frogs in the pond! There is so much to do in the area, that 7 days was not enough time to do it all! From beginning to end, this was a seamless holiday. Booking was easy, and Alison was quick to answer all of my questions by both phone and email. We highly recommend Plein Sud and hope to be back again soon!

Lovely property, well furnished and well equipped

  • 5 of 5

We have been holidaying in France for more than twenty years and I can safely say that we thought Plein Sud was the best house we have stayed in so far. The pool and garden are lovely, but the covered terrace is an inspiration, we hardly spent any time inside at all. The house is in a peaceful little hamlet which is a short drive from Villereal, but close enough so that you can explore the history and culture of both the Dordogne and Lot, with their seemingly endless stream of beautiful medieval towns, gorgeous patisseries and local vineyards. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well go and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful relaxing stay in a peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a brilliant week in Plein Sud, the house is lovely and equipped for any eventuality! Lovely places to sit and relax outside on the terrace or round the pool. Enjoyed BBQing on an evening and then watching the stars! We stayed with another couple with a small baby and the house was great to accommodate them - cot and everything. Great area with lots to see and do nearby and local boulangerie only 5 mins away. Lovely walks around the nearby reservoir too. Hope we will be back one day!!! Thankyou Dave and Alison for an amazing week.

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

Plein Sud is the most fantastic place to stay, it has everything you could want for a totally relaxing get away from it all holiday. The house is in a rural hamlet which gives total peace and quiet, it is lovely to relax on the terrace and just hear the sounds of birds and sometimes the frogs in the pond! We had some lovely hot days 30-35 degrees and the pool was lovely and refreshing to cool off in and the outdoor kitchen was nice to have an evening barbecue and enjoy the setting sun

The property feels like being at home and has everything you could possibly need for your stay. The local towns are really lovely with a selection of shops and places to eat if you dont want to cook yourself. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would recommend to anyone wanting a home from home holiday in this part of France.

Stunning views and incredible relaxation

  • 5 of 5

The house is situated in the sleepy hamlet of Bariats which is only a short drive from a large number of Bastide towns with their own market days and intriguing cultural sites. The drive to these towns tempts you with vineyards and fresh local farmyard produce, but this is only if you feel the need to the leave the villa which is well appointed and incredibly relaxing.

The private pool and balcony have the stunning view of the woodland at the back of the villa. Inside, the rooms are cosy and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped, and the livIng area spacious. For those wanting some home comforts, there is a good range of DVDs and books and UK TV channels should you wish. The owners are incredibly helpful and have gone to every effort to make the stay memorable. We would love to stay again and would thoroughly recommend this as a place for 2-6 people to stay.

Plein Sud is in the tiny hamlet of Bariats, 10 minutes drive from the beautiful 13th century town of Villereal, and 15 minutes from the towns of Monpazier, Beaumont, Monflanquin and Issigeac. All have bustling weekly markets, including vibrant night markets, as well as good supermarkets. The lovely towns of Bergerac and Viileneuve sur Lot are only half an hour away.

The castles, canoeing and prehistoric sites of the Dordogne valley are also about half an hour away. The wine regions of Monbazillac, Pecharmant, Cahors and Duras are all close at hand and the legendary vineyards of Bordeaux and St Emillion are a comfortable drive away.

A twenty five minute ride brings you to either Lougratte, a pleasure lake with a small beach, canoes, a diving platform and a waterslide or Parc en Ciel with rope courses and other exciting activities for all ages.
