My wife & I stayed for 5 nights. Beautiful Scottish west coast countryside. Isolated location, comfortable old style accommodation with everything you need included.

Stunning breathtaking view

  • 5 of 5

I really don't think words could descibe this rental, you have to see it, to believe it

Stunning views, Well thought out creature comforts. Everything is well finnished off, the conservatory to embrace the sun when it is very windy. Glorious night skies and sunsets.

There is a grocers in Gairloch for everyday essentials and more.

Wonderful helpful owner

Location

Car: necessary
Other Activities:

Melvaig is a crofting township, 10 miles from Gairloch, along a single track road, where you will find sheep asleep on the road, red deer running into the distance and huge cattle ambling along the roadside.

There are no restaurants, no shops, no doctors, no phone signal. You come to Melvaig because you want quiet, tranquility and amazing sea views and landscape. Otterburn 1 is directly opposite Skye and have views of Rona, Raasay, The Shiants and Lewis and Harris. If you look hard enough, you might even see Canada, yes at Latitude 57, Otterburn is as far north as Alaska and Canada.

Melvaig is Norse and stands for the Bay of Bent Grass and has a lovely pebble beach with lots of kelp which can be accessed from the cottage. Otter are regularly spotted down in the sea, playing in the kelp. You just need some patience. Also Sea Eagles and Gannets regularly fly over head and we have a pair of nesting Buzzards who like to soar above the house.

In the winter the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis can be viewed from Oran Mara, in fact Oran Mara has 'Dark Sky Status' the only place for miles around due to the lack of light pollution. Our night skies will take your breath away.

What to do in the Area?
