About Randy Peterson

Hi Everyone! I build this gorgeous log home on Little Bass Lake in 2004. But I have had this property since 1996 and still also own a small cabin next door to this rental home. Therefore I am often and usually around - especially in summer - in case you need anything. My goal is that your stay be a happy and relaxing one.

I am originally from So St. Paul but have lived and worked for IBM in the Rochester area for years when not up enjoying the Grand Rapids area. I've been coming with my family to this area on summer vacations since I was 5 years old or so and just fell in love with the area early on. It is still unbelievable to me that Itasca county is home to 1000+ of our 10000 lakes.

Randy Peterson purchased this lodge in 2004

Why Randy Peterson chose Minnesota

As I said, I have been coming to this area with my family on vacations since I was 5 and I just love it here. I sit on the dock at nights listening to the loons, or the frogs start the croaking and I can just feel any remaining stress leave me. I hope you will feel that too. And if you are lucky, you might get treated to a northern lights display.

What makes this lodge unique

What I always loved about raising my son and nieces and nephews here was that the lake was just perfect for family. Its big enough that we could go tubing during the day while its also not so big that allowing the kids to go boating or out in the canoe alone will lead to any problems. They just really can't get lost or into too much trouble.

Loved every minute!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent the month of July here and had a marvelous time - the cabin is comfortable, clean, and very private and secluded -- there's only one neighbor down the little dirt road, and we didn't see them the entire month we were there. Randy was great -- showed up once a week to take care of the trash and mow but otherwise left us alone - when the internet started having issues due to a huge storm, he bought a new modem and fixed things right up. Speaking of internet -- great connection; I had to work while I was there, and had no issues beyond the storm-caused problems for a day or two. It's fast enough to stream Netflix in HD, if that's your wont.

The area surrounding the cabin is green, quiet, and lots of nature -- we saw deer on multiple occasions, and there was a bald eagle's nest down the road; saw a couple of skunks wander by (but thankfully our dog didn't see them!) There are loons, ducks, and toads on the lake. The little sandy beach that Randy has by the dock is nice for wading, although for anything past your knees, you'll want swimming shoes for, as the ground gets kind of mushy. I highly recommend renting Randy's pontoon and going out on the lake for an afternoon - you can jump into the water, as well as fish, look at the other cabins on the lake, etc. My husband, who has never driven a boat before was a little nervous at first, but it was easy to drive and we had no issues.

For dog people: we brought our Corgi, and she had a blast. She was off leash the whole time, and ran around sniffing everything. She loved swimming in the lake, too :) Do be warned, there are ticks in the woods (we picked a few off her during our stay), so make sure your dog is on tick & flea meds.

Grand Rapids is only about 15 minutes away by car, and they have just about anything you could want -- two grocery stores, Target, Walmart, and various restaurants, etc. The cabin is very well stocked as far as kitchen utensils, pots, pans, plates, etc., so you don't need to worry about bringing anything like that. The master bed was very comfortable, and the master bathroom is a nice size. The cabin has all the regular amenities you can think of -- dishwasher, washer/dryer, fireplace, great wifi.

If you're looking to get away from it all by surrounding yourself by peace, quiet, and nature - but still keep your creature comforts - then this is definitely the place for you! I can't recommend it enough.

Great Time!!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin exceeded our expectations. It is hard to find a cabin that fits the needs of all the family, but the Log Home on Little Bass was enjoyed by everyone and is in the heart of the northwoods where you can make short day trips to Duluth and Bemidji or be as lazy as you want on Little Bass Lake. We would definitely do this again.

We loved it!!!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our fabulous vacation and hated to leave. We even checked to see if we could stay a few more days! The owner, Randy, is wonderful. He is very helpful and responds quickly. This property is so well cared for as everything was perfect (super clean). We took walks through the groomed trails, took numerous pontoon rides where the kids went swimming/fishing and just sat on the deck and relaxed. The yard is set up great for evening bonfires and yard games ( Washers and Bean Bags). It is so private and wooded, however you are only 5 minutes from town if you wanted to golf or go to the grocery store. We had multiple family members come join us at different times throughout the week and the home accommodated perfectly! We will definitely be back again!
