About Stephen & Liz

Your hosts, Stephen & Liz began providing holiday accommodation in Scotland in 1989, when they ran a small youth hostel for Backpackers. Then, after many years of working in Hospitality, they acquired their first log cabin in 2001. They now have four, all of which they have personally maintained, furnished and equipped to the high quality standard they are today. Stephen and Liz both appreciate how important it is for guests to feel welcome on their travels and to stay in warm, clean, comfortable accommodation, and have lots of information around to help in their enjoyment. If you need help, they live locally and have lots of tips on where is best to visit, where to dine etc. Over the years they have met many wonderful people and they enjoy taking many breaks themselves, when they can.

Stephen & Liz purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Stephen & Liz chose Dunoon

Stephen & Liz were bowled over by the beauty of the natural landscape of the area and settled with their family in 2000. In 2013 they designed, built, decorated and furnished Bramble Lodge from scratch. They wanted to provide guests with an enjoyable stay in an 'Amazing Space' (in an amazing place) close to the river and surrounded by Nature. Apart from its neighbour, Hawthorn Lodge, there is no other like it in Scotland. It's perfect for two, perfect for romance and easy to get to. There is a sense of seclusion, yet the nearest town, Dunoon, is only 10 mins drive and the nearest city, Glasgow, is only 90 mins away. Stephen & Liz made this area their home, and they are pleased to be able to share a little part of it with you.

What makes this cabin unique

Being 'local', Stephen and Liz are on hand if any help is required, and they are always happy to share information about the area, places to visit, things to see and do. Many have mentioned how good it is to receive personal recommendations.

Unlike other lodges in the area Bramble Lodge is fully double glazed for added comfort and security, and the Rental INCLUDES Electricity, Bed Linen, Towels, Complimentary Toiletries, Wi-fi and Parking - there's no hidden costs.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Lovely location by the riverside and looking towards the mountain. Close to magical walks direct from the lodge. E.G. Pucks Glen and Benmore Botanical gardens. Friendly owners without being too intrusive.

Gorgeous cabin- would highly recommend.

  • 5 of 5

We were blown away by the outstanding quality of this cabin. It felt brand new and was so cosy, clean and homely. The kitchen was very well-equipped and the owners were so helpful with recommendations and tips. The location was also amazing. A five minute walk from 'Puck's Glen' which is a stunning forest (even in the rain!) that genuinely resembled a scene from 'Lord of the Rings'.

The cabin was a short distance away from a grocery shop in Dunoon and there is so much to do nearby. Would strongly recommend a visit to Loch Lomond- Luss and the Fyne Ale Brewery which are both short drives away.

Thank you for such a lovely holiday- cannot fault the accommodation or the location. 10/10 :)

Good base to see Cowal

  • 5 of 5

I spent a few days here on my own for a few days R&R. The cabin is modern, well equipped, and everything was fresh and clean. The weather was lovely when I was there, and I was able to make good use of the terrace which overlooked the river. Although there were a few houses on the site, the two cabins aren't overlooked. The site is close to the main road, and there's a bit of road noise but it didn't bother me, and it was within easy driving distance of the local attractions. You could walk to Puck's Glen or Benmore Garden, which were both lovely.

I would day it's a great base for an outdoor holiday, but maybe a bit compact for a couple if you planned to stay indoors much.

a beautiful cabin in stunning surroundings. The cabin was so clean and fresh you would be mistaken to think any one else had been before you. Very cosy and well equipped with anything you could need. Games and books were even provided for the wet days/nights.

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

I came here with my husband for a mini honeymoon and we absolutely enjoyed the cabin. It had everything we required and was clean and tidy ready for our 4 day stay. Pucks Glen was wonderful and very close to the cabin. We definitely would recommend it if you are looking for a nice, quiet getaway surrounded by beautiful views. The only slight downfall was the weather. We did enjoy the scotch mist but couldn’t do our bbq. Other than that, we enjoyed every moment we spent at Bramble Lodge. Liz (the owner) was very informative and pleasant. Thank you xxx

Bramble Lodge 4 nights stay

  • 4 of 5

Our small lodge was to be found amongst the trees next to a riverside setting, the view of which, from the window, instills calmness and serenity, (forget paying for therapy, stay at this place!). The situation itself was ideal for exploring the Cowal Peninsular with its abundance of flora and fauna at every turn.

For the reluctant cook 'Sheliah's Diner', a few minutes drive along the road, provides really good home cooking at a reasonable price. Try the giant meringue - took me 3 visits to finish!

The only negative was the road noise, though expected, it was a little heavier than we would have liked!

On arrival at our wee home for 4 nights, we were delighted to find it wasn't surrounded by several other lodges as is often the case on many a site. It has a spacious verandah with table and 2 chairs should you wish to while away the warm evenings surrounded by nature and a frequent, in our case, visit from an inquisitive Chaffinch.

The fixtures and fittings in Bramble were of the utmost quality. The kettle and toaster were a quality brand as was the TV. The bed was comfortable with a crisp white duvet cover. All curtains, cushions, throws etc. matched each other with style. My partner and I fell in love with each colourful print adorning the walls. The woodburning stove added to the general 'cosiness' as well as giving off a good heat.

The owners left a 'Scottish welcome' pack in a wee basket tray containing Scottish Heather Honey, shortbread, crisps and a box containing a locally made soap.

All in all this break provided a well needed 4 nights of relaxation in one of the prettiest parts of Scotland.

Owner's Response: We’re delighted you enjoyed your stay and thank you for all the many compliments. Although the road has mostly light traffic, sometimes the road noise can affect the ‘calm and serenity’ you describe. Certainly, however, the riverside location makes up for this in great measure. We hope to see you again soon :)

Great location & views

  • 4 of 5

Cosy lodge great as a place to stay whilst touring the local area. Warm although the bathroom would benefit from a heater in the colder months.
