A Brief Description of Thompson's Point
Thompson's Point is a unique area of summer camps some dating from the 19th century. It is a lovely, pristine wooded area that provides privacy and beautiful sites for the individual camps. The natural, wooded habitat encourages bird watching and the rustic, quiet dirt roads, that provide access to the camps, are ideal for walking, running and biking.
The camp has two large lakeside decks connected by a catwalk across the front of the camp. There are spectacular views of of the lake and the Adirondack Mountains from the camp, its decks and beachfront. The beach is a natural flat-rock cove with a 16 foot dock and a mooring for a large boat.
The camp was completely upgraded recently and has a modern, complete kitchen with dishwasher. The living area which includes the living room, dining area and kitchen is open and pleasantly furnished. There are two bedrooms on the entry level. Both have queen beds and one has views of the lake. There is a bath with shower on the entry level. The loft is large and has a double bed, a single bed and a smaller bed suitable for a child, plus a half bath. Washer and dryer are in a separate area.
The decks are furnished with dining tables and chairs, a weber gas grill (a charcoal grill is available) and furniture for relaxing and enjoying the views.
The kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms are completely furnished. There is a good gas heating system in case you have a nippy day and the camp is insulated.
Thompson's Point is about 15 miles from Burlington, 7 miles from Shelburne and 12 miles from Vergennes. The ferry to NY State is nearby in Charlotte to Essex,NY.
There is Wifi available plus cable TV and land phone.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in what the locals must call a summer camp. Those of us from the Midwest and maybe other places would call it a summer cottage on the lake. Regardless of the terminology, the cottage is very well equipped, very clean and well cared for and has a great view of the lake from the deck that surrounds the cottage. Marilyn is a terrific owner, her communication of all details related to our visit was excellent, I would highly recommend this property for a relaxing stay in the Lake Champlain area.
Beautiful cabin on Lake Champlain. Wonderful open plan but with private bedrooms. Great kitchen for cooking a good meal. Decks all around for watching sunset over the lake and hearing the loons call. The cabin is in a beautiful secluded area with lots of walks within short driving distance and back roads for exploring. Don't forget to check out the amazing Shelburne Museum about 10 miles away.
One thing that I really loved was the sense of history the place has. It's thoroughly modernized, but you can tell the house has been loved and appreciated by the people who have owned it.
This quaint lake house tucked in the trees above the banks of Lake Champlain was a perfect spot to enjoy the lake and area around it. Thompson's Point is a throw back to earlier days where life slows down a bit. The camp was quiet and private - comfortable and nicely furnished. It was stocked with absolutely everything you might need and close to interesting places to visit and eat. Fishing was great! Marilyn was very attentive and concerned about our comfort and satisfaction. Who wouldn't love this little slice of heaven? We hope to be back next year or maybe to explore the area in it's Fall splendor.
Beautiful, well-appointed and well-located camp. One of the most relaxing vacations ever. The owner is very responsive to all inquiries.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Marilyn’s summer Camp on Lake Champlain.
The Camp was well equipped with everything we needed and had a great layout for
our family of four. There is a gorgeous view from the deck overlooking Lake Champlain
with the Adirondack Mountains in the background. We particularly enjoyed watching
the sunsets with a glass of wine.
The Camp is in a quiet area , but a great location, with easy access to many activities, including,
swimming, canoeing, biking, golfing, hiking, blueberry picking, sightseeing and visiting the many
surrounding towns, including Burlington.
Marilyn was an excellent host who addressed all of our needs. Thank You Marilyn!
We hope to return next summer for another visit.
Charming camp with great views, lots of room for cooking and well equipped. Comfortable beds and just a really neat interior. Marliyn, the host, is very accomodating. We hope to stay here again.
Hiking, boating and walking country roads are enjoyed by many campers. The Shelburne Museum is a favorite place to visit. It has many beautiful Early American buildings and collections. There is a ferry used into the fifties is on the museum side. Children especially like this exhibit. The ski areas have chair and gondola rides I during the summer. They are about half an hour distance. A great way to look out over the mountains to New York and New Hampshire. Locally there is state park Mt. Philo. You can drive to the top for a small fee, or park at the bottom and hike up. Has marvelous views .
Great place for a picnic.
Bird watching is a favorite pastime for both locals and visitors.
