About the property

Private historic cottage with gated parking and a private backyard

This cozy family-friendly private home includes gated parking. Start your morning with coffee on the front porch or enjoy a relaxing evening in the backyard garden. The Alamo is only a short walk! Other downtown area attractions in close proximity include the San Antonio Riverwalk, Tobin Center, The Majestic, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Sunset Station, and the Alamodome.

Known as the Engelmann-Muench House, this cottage was built in 1858 by Martin Engelmann, a wealthy German immigrant. The caliche block vernacular double house sits on a site which was once part of the Alamo farmlands. The structure is a good example of a once-common San Antonio house type and features original built-in end chimneys.

Comfy; Lil Pardise in the City; Amazing Historic and New blended beautifully

Fabulous Historic House Will be staying many times because of the privacy in the city: convenient to Children's Hospital; and the hospitality from the owners. Security is well thought of in this home.

Great piece of Texan Heritage

  • 4 of 5

Very interesting and historic place. Beautiful grounds and backyard. Went with my family (including my, at the time, 6 month old son). Second bedroom was perfect to set up a pack and play. Thick walls helped to prevent too much noise. Would go back again. Only complaints would be it's a very old building so there are some bugs (because it's so old) and it is in a random part of town (near funeral home, bus station, car shops), although it felt safe and was close walking distance to everything we needed. We would stay here again and recommend this to other families or couples. Hosts were friendly, quick to respond to any issues or questions. Book of recommendations was also helpful. Overall, great location and stay :)

Great historic house!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this historic home. We had six people and were comfortable and managed fine with one bathroom. The house was not too far a walk to the Alamo and restaurants and we felt safe doing so with theee adults and three teens. The home is renovated beautifully to retain historic architecture so if that is something you are into like we are you will appreciate it. And the bottle of wine left by Mona was a sweet surprise! Thank you for a great stay!

Unique Vacation Stay for the Whole Family

  • 4 of 5

If you're looking for somewhere to stay that's convenient to downtown, but with way more personality than a hotel, this is it. Our family of six (children ages 10-17) enjoyed four nights in this historic home while we explored San Antonio. It was a cozy retreat after our day spent out and about, and the kids really loved exploring Netflix. It is within walking distance of the Alamo and Riverwalk, but we also had a rental car so drove a few times. We always appreciated returning to the private, gated parking area which we used as our main entrance. The home does sit on a busy street, but there was minimal street noise and we always felt safe. There is a bus station around the corner, but it can easily be avoided. All contact with Mona was wonderful.

Great Week in San Antonio

  • 5 of 5

The house was much more than I expected. For two old guys, the house was a great place to rest, sit in the wonderful patio, drink a cold beer and veg. I would recommend the house to any one coming to this city.

I give this home 5 stars

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay my family enjoyed it the week of 4th of July. We loved the proximity to downtown that was just a short walk and we took advantage of the back patio for our morning coffee. The house has been beautifully restored we loved the history of the home. By the way thank you for the bottle of wine we will definitely stay here again.
