About Gary

Hi, I'm Gary and this is my dream home. I built the separate apartment to be my own space when I can't do stairs anymore. Meanwhile it has been used for family or rentals.

Janet and I occupy the upper floor and are available 24/7.

We will be delighted to suggest sites to visit and answer any questions about our beautiful city.

Gary purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Gary chose Colorado Springs

THE MOST AMAZING VIEW!!! Mountains by day and city lights at night. You will also appreciate the peace and serenity of this mountain paradise.

What makes this apartment unique

Great alternate to the Broadmoor or the Cheyenne Mountain Conference Resort, only 5 minutes away, Also very close to Ft. Carson

When Kathy Bates wrote "America the Beautiful" she was inspired by the exact scenery that we see in our view. The majestic purple mountains and fruited plains are exactly what you will see from the property. Also of note, the famous entrance to NORAD is visible about a mile from here. Also, 10 minutes from here is Cheyenne Canyon where there are multiple water falls and a drive through high alpine country that is a must see. You can also see the zoo, rated 5th best in the U.S. which is 5 minutes away

Clean, convenient

Was a little uncomfortable with the office furniture being stuck in the corner of the bedroom and the tractor right outside the window. Felt more like a basement room being shared than a vacation condo.

Some suggestions are, a newer mattress on the bed, found it much too soft for two people. Sags in the middle. Had only two flat pillows, would appreciate a couple extra. Sometimes people over 50 need a little support under their knees and one behind their back. I had to sleep on the sofa because it was more firm than the bed. Also some sort of lightweight throws for the living room while watching TV. We did find a red blanket in the drawer under the TV but it smelled like dust and was too heavy.

Another thing that made me a little uncomfortable with the leftover bar soap in the shower. Two very small bars. Who wants that? Give me a new one or none at all!!!! There was also a loofah that was not new. Those things hold moisture, dead skin cells & can mold and mildew. Older toothbrush holder, empty tissue box.

The television in the living room is way too large for the size of the room. I felt like I was sitting much too close. The equipment that went with the TV was outdated. No radio and had an old VCR.

Another suggestion is to get the kitchen trash can out of the pantry. Luckily I'm a vegetarian so it didn't have any meat rotting in it but it's dark in the closet and no ventilation. Not a good place for kitchen garbage. We also didn't know where to put it but if someone was eating meat they would need to take it out much more frequently. Would stink and create a lot of bacteria around bags in containers that you store your food in.

Overall it was sufficient, however, the office furniture in the bedroom was not very welcoming. A couple glass desks stuck in the corner. Those should be removed in a comfortable chair should be put there with a reading lamp.

The owner was very nice, and always available to help. Just a reminder to everyone, you are staying in someone's house underneath their living quarters. It's not soundproof.

My only other suggestion is the artificial plant on the kitchen table and in the bathroom need to be replaced. They are full of dust and not very appealing. Putfresh flowers in there for 15 bucks or replace the old artificial plants.

I have to say the used bar soap in the shower was the creepiest. Too little teeny slivers left over from someone else! That really threw me. I will just leave you with that thought.

Owner's Response: We have been hosts with Homeaway for almost 3 years with over 100 guests and 0 complaints. Your comfort and enjoyment is our TOP concern. Nevertheless, during a 4 day stay, this guest came up with at least 14 complaints. Some have merit, most do not. Let me address her issues, 1. Bed sags Response: The mattress is a nearly new top-of-the-line Serta pillowtop Many of our guests have mentioned how comfortable it is (see previous reviews). 2. She found 2 "tiny slivers" of a soap bar that were "creepy" Response: This was an oversight by our cleaning crew. We only supply liquid hand soap and bodywash. The bar soap was brought in by our previous guest and we just missed the scraps. This will not happen again. 3' Tractor visible outside bedroom window Response: The "tractor" is actually an ATV with a snowplow. The handlebars are visible in the bottom right corner of the window. There is no other place on the property to put it. 4..Glass desk in bedroom is "not welcoming" Response: A chair and reading lamp would look nicer, but we have many business travelers and they use the work station frequently. Most hotels even have writing desk. 5. Only 2 pillows on bed Response: We always emphasize to our guests that we will try to satisfy any of their needs. Just let us know. If they would have asked, we had plenty of extra pillows for them. 6.Throw blanket was too heavy Response: According to the manufacturer, the throw is considered lightweight. 7.Toothbrush holder looks old Response: We agree and will be purchasing new one. 8.Empty tissue holder Response: I personally checked that and it had tissues before they arrived. We also put 2 unopened new Kleenex boxes in the bathroom for each new reservation. 9.TV was too big Response. If you want a smaller TV, we will be happy to bring you one. 10. No radio Response: Push tuner button on receiver, 11, Location of trash can Response. You can put the trashcan anywhere you want. 12. Flowers were artificial and looked dusty Response: What she thought was dust was actually a light grey accent on the leaves. 13..It was dark in the pantry Response: Turn on the pantry light switch !4, More like a basement than a vacation condo Response. There is no basement in this home and it is not advertised as a vacation condo, It is an apartment with 2 outside entrances and views. Yes, we live on the top floor which is what you have in most apartments. But there is no one living on the first floor other than our guests.

Beautiful views and gracious hosts

  • 5 of 5

This was a fabulous stay for our family during our visit to see our cadet at the Air Force academy. The place was so comfortable and complete with a small outdoor space for grilling and chilling. Gary was a welcoming host and very helpful with any questions we had. We will be back when we visit our son at the academy. We loved it!

Excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was for one month, and our hosts could not have been more congenial. The view

over Colorado Springs and the mountains is spectacular. We happened to be there over July 4th, and the fireworks view was everywhere!

Our hosts provided every we needed except food. If we needed anything, all we had to do was ask.

Kitchen fully stocked, big screen TV in living room, Very comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom with great shower, and walk-in closet.

The 1 bedroom, 1 bath unit is cozy, comfy and perfect for our stay while we traveled around Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas. The home has everything needed for a comfortable stay. This unit is on the ground level and the owners home is above and there are some noises to adjust to, walking, dogs occassional bark, some tv, and a couple of thuds, etc. Then our last day there we heard a noise that completely filled our ears and hearts with JOY, I even opened the door from our unit to the owners home just a crack so that we could fully enjoy. Gary played the piano so brilliantly he could easily be in a symphony (and should be). It filled us to our very souls with pleasure. Thank you Gary and Janet for the feast for our ears and a small cozy unit to relax and unwind after spending time with family at so many things available for folks to enjoy in the area.

Gary and Janet's Cliff House was wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The house was warm and welcoming and so were our hosts! Our extended family of 7 all loved this place. The beds were comfortable, kitchen was fully stocked and it felt very private. It was close to all immenities-grocery store, coffee shop, etc. and all Colorado Springs highlights. The real stunner, though, was the incredible views! The mountains were spectacular and city lights at night were gorgeous. Our hosts were very helpful - offering suggestions on the city and surrounding areas. This was the perfect getaway place for us!

Outstanding property and owner

  • 5 of 5

A colleague and I stayed for several days for a convention/trade show being held at the nearby Broadmoor. Gary's home was very comfortable, had all the amenities one needed, and Gary was a very welcoming and a gracious host.

This property was conveniently located to our meeting place and offered a quiet retreat to continue working in the evening, all with a tremendous view of Colorado Springs below. The house is near local shopping and restaurants. Even though the house is in the middle of anything you'd need, its position on a hill overlooking the area gives you a feeling of being secluded and is very peaceful.

We had a great visit and would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the area.
