Crescent Cottage | Newly Refurbished 3 bedroom Mews Cottage with Private Garden

Bedrooms 3
Property type house

About the property

Newly refurbished 3 bedroom end of terrace cottage for 6 with private garden

Dating to the 1700’s, this traditional Bath Stone cottage started life as an 18th century pub called “The New Inn”. Redeveloped in 2017 the home now combines the best of modern convenience with pretty cottage charm. Contemporary oak doors, underfloor heating, honed stone floors and elegant sash windows now define this stylish cottage. Beside the entrance, the newly fitted shaker-style kitchen has crisp white moulded work surfaces and plenty of white crockery and glassware. There is a 4-ring gas hob, electric oven, microwave, under-counter fridge, separate under-counter freezer and a dishwasher. A rustic table seats 6 on 3 chairs and a bench.

Three oak steps lead down to a large contemporary jewel-bright living area with light pouring in from a glazed roof lantern and bi-folding south-facing patio doors. There are two leather sofas to seat 5 and a tapestry-style easy chair. A wall-mounted internet-enabled TV is neatly recessed and a storage cupboard under has Infinity Fibre broadband Wi-Fi and DVD player. In fine weather, the long glazed doors can be pulled back for optimum enjoyment of a little walled courtyard garden planted with mature shrubs and climbers. There is a bench to catch the sun, an outdoor table and chairs with views of surrounding Bath stone terraces.

On the first floor is a spacious and elegant bedroom in mustard and grey with an upholstered 5’ bed. There is a large ash chest of drawers, a hanging rail, an easy chair and lamp. Shuttered windows reveal a lovely city view down the hill featuring the Bath Abbey. Adjacent is a contemporary under-floor heated bathroom crisply tiled in stone, with a small double-ended bath, a large walk-in shower, a hand-basin with storage under and a WC.

Another flight of stairs takes you to the top of the building, ending in a taupe and lime green bedroom under the eaves with restricted headroom to the sides. There are two 3’ single beds which can be made as a large double with “Zip & Link” mattresses, a chest of drawers and an alcove with hanging rail. Two further alcoves have LED lighting and in common with the other bedrooms, power sockets with USB charging points for mobile phones.

Private stairs lead down from the ground floor directly into a large double underfloor heated bedroom at lower ground floor level with shuttered windows. There are two 3’ single beds that “zip & link” to become a 6’double, a large ash chest of drawers and a wardrobe with shelf space placed in an alcove. Headroom is restricted at one end of the room by the stairs, which have been thoughtfully framed with a glass panel for a lighter, airier feel. There is a welcoming en-suite shower-room with a fully tiled walk-in shower, a hand basin and WC with oak shelf for toiletries. Double doors conceal a laundry cupboard with a washing machine combined with dryer, iron and further utility items.

The property comes with a parking permit allowing you to park one car on the street. Alternatively the Bath Spa Train Station and Bus Station are a 10-minute walk away.

Beautiful home on a good location

  • 5 of 5

It is a small 3 bedroom apartment, but very well equipped and with good (firm) beds and bathrooms. The refrigerator under the counter is a bit small. The extended living room next to the kitchen is very nice and can open up to a good sized backyard. The house has parking in front for 1 car and walking to the town centre takes only 5-10 minutes. As a family of 5, with three teenagers, we really enjoyed it and had a great week staying here and using this as our hub to discover Bath, the Cotswolds and the SW of England. We recommend this place.

Owner's Response: So pleased you enjoyed your time in the property. It is one of my favourite areas of Bath as you feel like you are in the country but within 10 minutes you are on the high street. Take care and hope to see you again.

Beautiful, cosy, very well located to visit Bath

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful cottage ! Modern Decor throughout with all mod cons , it was just what we wanted . Bath centre is a short stroll away and there are shops located within 3 minutes walking . We will be returning in the near future . Bath rentals were really helpful and most welcoming upon our arrival . Thank you!

The property is located on the South side of the city in a gorgeous area called Widcombe. You have the benefit of feeling you are in the country with only a ten minute stroll to the city. At the bottom of Widcombe Hill you have local facilities in Widcombe Parade including a newsagent, chemist, a couple of coffee shops, hairdressers, florists, and several pubs, restaurants and Indian, Chinese and American takeaways. There is also an express supermarket there. You cross over a foot bridge to the train station and the start of the city which has many historic sites and museums and galleries, as well as great shops, bars and restaurants. Bath Narrow boats rent barges and bikes to explore the city or the Kennet and Avon canal and towpath. After all the activity, pamper yourselves in the piping hot pools of the Thermae Spa, or enjoy a night at The Theatre Royal or Komedia Comedy Club.

If you want to take a break from the city, there is much to explore from the house. Close by on Church st is the tiny and atmospheric church of St Thomas a Becket built between 1490 and 1498 over a Norman church with even older Saxon origins. This tiny settlement was mentioned in the Domesday survey of 1086. Farther along is Widcombe Manor a fabulous grade 1 listed private manor built in 1656, visited by the rich and famous. Nearby is the National Trust owned Prior Park Gardens with a Palladian bridge created in the 18th century by local architect and entrepreneur Ralph Allen with advice from Capability Brown and the poet Alexander Pope. There are fabulous views of Bath and a five-minute walk leads to the Bath Skyline, a six mile circular route encompassing pretty woodlands and meadows, an Iron Age hill fort, Roman settlements, 18th century follies and spectacular views.
