About Matt and Vicki Nelson

Matt and I are life long Alaskans. We moved to Healy, from Anchorage, in 2012 to work at the Usibelli Coal Mine. We fell in love with this community and enjoy all the visitors in the summer time. Our passions are four wheeling, fishing and moose hunting.

Matt and Vicki Nelson purchased this house in 2013

Why Matt and Vicki Nelson chose Denali

We recently purchased a larger home close by to accomodate our friends and family that come to visit. We are using the log home as a rental until our retirement.

What makes this house unique

It just is the wonderful Alaskan dream to live in a log home and yet still have the comforts of civilization. Awsome experience!

Great location and spacious cabin

We went to Denali National Park and the location is very close to entrance and restaurants. Lots of bed and stocked with supplies. We had a wonderful vacation, and I highly recommend staying here.

Great cabin in a nice quiet spot

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed staying here. In the Healy area for work, this was a great place to stay, cook meals, sleep in a comfy bed. The cabin itself is very nice, spacious, and super clean. Plenty of room for three couples, or a good sized family. Very close to everything you need in Healy, and just a quick drive up Parks highway to Denali. Would definitely stay here again.

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with my parents, teenage siblings, our toddler and baby. The house was so spacious and absolutely beautiful! It's so peaceful, and there's a beautiful yard for kids to play. We enjoyed watching the squirrels in the back yard. The fire pit and rocking chairs on the front porch were wonderful. Vicki was great about communicating, and provided a kid gate for the stairs which are pretty steep. I hope to visit again.

Great place at a good price. Close to Denali and a good place to take a day trip to Fairbanks. Thanks Vicki and Matt for sharing this wonderful house and so glad we got to meet you. Enjoyed lunch at Pikes in Fairbanks per your suggestion, but the auto museum was closed. We did not get to see the mountain up close in the park but saw it 3 times on our visit to Alaska.

Awesome

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 3 nights. It was clean, well maintained and easy to find. Loved the quiet location. It was totally worth the nightly price for 2 couples. If you fill all the beds, it's worth its weight in gold! Enjoyed the fire pit. Purchase wood at Miners Market (less than 5 minutes drive from the house). Appreciated the full kitchen for breakfast and dinner. Full size washer and dryer was a definite bonus as this allowed us to prepare for the next part of our adventure. Beds comfortable. Wifi worked well.

Matt and Vicky's advise for touring the area was spot on although I'd say our travel time to Denali park entrance was 20 minutes in addition to waiting for construction delays (and I'm a speed violator!).

Appreciated staying in local neighborhood vs. Glitter Gulch. Why would you stay with the crowds while visiting this remote paradise when you can experience how a local would.

Wonderful place! Would definitely stay again!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at the Alaskan Lights Log Cabin! I was in touch with Vicki about 2 weeks before arriving. She was very friendly and shared lot of useful tips about the place, safety, where to buy groceries, etc. The property was very clean with all the amenities that you would ever need. We were there for 3 nights and felt as if we were staying at home. The fridge and the shelves also had lot of items which helped. The location was about 10-12 miles north of Denali National Park's Main Entrance. It was a very convenient location for us (a group of six).

Vicki was an extremely wonderful host. We were arriving after midnight and had lost our way. We took a wrong path and had wandered about 3-4 miles into a jungle with no one around. I called up Vicki in the middle of the night. She woke up from her sleep and came to find us. She called me to find out where we were, drove her jeep inside the jungle and guided us to the property. This is a gesture we will never forget. Who would wake up in the middle of the night and drive their vehicle in the middle of the jungle with no one around to help you? This is something unheard of.

I would definitely stay at this place again! Thank you so much Vicki for allowing us to stay at your place and helping us in the middle of the night.

Location

This cozy cabin is only 10 miles away from the Denali National Park. Out the back door and you are walking in peace down the powerline trail which enjoys moose, wolves, fox, bears, and a variety of birds.
