About the property

Newly renovated beautiful and peaceful apartment close to the museums and RAI

About this place

Welcome to the Soho of Amsterdam! This cosy & warm apartment is situated in the nicest street of the lively “Old Pijp”-neigbourhood; the Frans Hals Street, named after a Dutch painter. The apartment is tastefully decorated with some artistic touches from famous Dutch Master painters.

With its friendly, buzzing atmosphere and great bars, restaurants and shops everywhere, this is one of the best locations in Amsterdam. The famous Albert Cuyp-market is just around the corner and it’s very close to the canals, concert halls, Leidse Square and Museum Square with a.o. the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum.

So have a masterly taste of Dutch Culture!

Dear guest,

This place is best suited for calm and easy-going travellers, who want to enjoy Dutch culture; visit museums and other cultural events and places. The Old Pijp is a very lively but ALSO a residential area, so out of consideration for the neighbours: no late partying, no loud music and no smoking (weed).

My apartment is on the 2nd floor; in the front you have perfect view of the buzzing street, facing the terrace of Karel’s restaurant. In the back you have garden view. At night it is very quiet.

You will have the entire apartment to yourself (private entrance on second floor).

My place is cosy and neat with a mixture of vintage and modern elements. You will find artistic elements of the famous Dutch Masters all around the place. Like “Almond Blossom” by Van Gogh and “the girl with the pearl earring” by Vermeer on the wall. Art is all around you!

The open kitchen is fully equipped; with oven/microwave, dishwasher (tablets are included), refrigerator, freezer, a kettle and Senseo Coffee machine (coffee and tea is included).

In the living area/room there is TV, Cable and Wifi available. The large vintage style dining table is also a perfect place to work on your laptop.

There is a separate toilet with little wash basin.

In the bathroom you’ll find everything you need: a shower, a wash basin, a towel heater, bath gel, shampoo and hairdryer.

In the bedroom you’ll find a comfortable double bed and closet space with hangers. There’s a separate closet in the living with coat rack and room for your suitcase.

There is no wash machine, but there is a (very affordable) laundry service nearby in the street.

Children or disabled people

With its very steep stairs this place is not really suited and save for small children or people with walking difficulties.

But for little babies that cannot walk yet, it is fine though. There is a baby bed available upon request.

Top location

The apartment is in best part of the old Pijp; situated between the Rijksmuseum, the famous Albert Cuyp Market and the Heineken Square. You can get anywhere on foot! Or just hop on tram (the stop for line 16 and 24 is within 100 meters) that will take you to the Dam Square, Central Station or the Jordan-neighbourhood.

The apartment is just steps away from all kind of eateries, lively bars, art galleries and nice little shops. It’s very close by (within 10/15 minutes walking distance):

- The canals (embark on the tour boat in front of the Rijksmuseum)

- Concert halls; ‘Royal Concertgebouw’ for classical music, the legendary ‘Paradiso’ for pop/rock concerts and the ‘Melkweg’ for dance/rock/urban.

- Museum Square, where you’ll find the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum.

- Leidse Square; main square with bars and terraces

I live and work in two places: in Belgium and in Amsterdam. When I’m not in Amsterdam my good friend Richard will handle communication and check-ins. You can contact him by mobile any time during your stay. We treat our guests with respect and consideration, and we expect the same from our guests.

Any questions or specials requests? Feel free to ask anything.

Access for guests

Access to all areas.

The neighbourhood

With its friendly, buzzing atmosphere, the famous Albert Cuyp Market and nice bars, eateries and shops on every corner, this is one of the most attractive neighbourhoods in Amsterdam. It’s very close to the canals, concert halls, Leidse Square, Spiegelkwartier (with all the antique shops and galleries) and Museum Quarter.

The Albert Cuyp Market: the largest daily market in Europe with 300 different stands. Here you can buy almost anything like clothes, bags, flowers, fish (like Dutch herring!), fruit & vegetables, Dutch cheese and of course Dutch Stroopwaffles. Opening hours: every monday till saturday from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM

Museum Quarter:

The Museum Quarter is home to world famous artistic and historical treasures, some of the finest restaurants in Amsterdam, the most luxurious shops and one of the best-sounding orchestral concert venues. It’s is located just south of the centre, bordered by the Stadhouderskade to the north, the Hobbemakade and Reinier Vinkeleskade to the east, Vondelpark to the west and Emmastraat to the south.

Here you will find the Rijksmuseum (home of the Dutch Masters like Rembrandt), the Stedelijk Museum of modern art and the Van Gogh Museum.

In summer the vast open space of Museum square is ideal for relaxing in the sun. It’s also used for major (national) events and concerts. In winter there is a quaint ice skating rink. Here you can also find the big “I AMSTERDAM” letters; the city’s most photographed attraction.

Overlooking the Museum square is the Royal Concertgebouw, internationally renowned for its acoustics and its house orchestra.

THE shopping street for the rich and famous is the P.C. Hooftstraat and it’s located in this area. Here you can find all the big brands and do some serious (window) shopping. Maybe you will spot a (Dutch) celebrity.

Heineken Experience: The Heineken brewery (nearby at the Stadhouderskade) was established in Amsterdam in 1864. Today Heineken is world-famous brand and a multinational company. The real brewery is no longer active, but you can go on an,interactive tour.

Beautiful apartment in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for several days and had a great time. The apartment is beautiful and is in a great neighborhood (called De Pijp, which is quite close to many of Amsterdam's best museums). We didn't have any issues with noise and, while the fridge was not working, there was a temporary small one which worked fine. One issue was that we didn't get the sort of typical "welcome" confirmation email, so we didn't have a lot of detail on arrival and getting the key. You may want to follow-up to get the details if you don't hear anything. Otherwise, great stay!

We really enjoyed the apartment and the neighborhood! Very convenient to museums and other attractions with great restaurants just steps from our door. Host was very helpful...take advantage of airport shuttle service offered by host - Was a great resource in getting acquainted with the city and neighborhood. Apartment had everything needed, perfect for couples, and well-stocked. Loved the tea and coffee that was provided!

What you see is what you get

  • 4 of 5

The flat looks just like the pictures, so there were no surprises. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, and the coffee was very tasty. It's about two blocks from a tram stop, so it was easy to get around the city. We kept the windows open to keep it cool in the evenings, and that meant it wasn't very quiet, however.

Carels Cafe is open until about midnight, and the patrons sitting outside were often pretty loud. Since the bedroom is at the back of the flat, the bigger problem was the noise from the courtyard. Most nights during our stay there were very loud groups of drunk people yelling and laughing until the wee hours of the morning. And to top it off there was road construction a block away, so the trucks and loaders started up by 7 or 8 am and kept driving back and forth in front of the flat.

The refrigerator wasn't working while we were there, so we had to move food back and forth from the freezer to the frig in order to keep it cold but not frozen. We reported the problem, but Richard wasn't able to schedule a repair until after we left.

In all, the flat served our needs. I could have withstood the loud neighbors better without the road construction and broken frig on top of it.

Perfect Apartment and Location

  • 5 of 5

Very nice apartment in a great location. De Pijp is the place to be, less touristy that the centre but only a 15 minute walk to the centre or 8 minute Tram journey.

Richard was great, we ere running late but he waited for us.

You won't find a better apartment in a better location for a better price so book it.
