Charming bungalow renetly modernised.
Comfortable and welcoming
Spacious, well equipped and tastefully decorated
I was Grandma in a family party of six, including two children under five and plus two cats.
We found Fairwinds a spacious, well equipped and tastefully decorated holiday home that worked well for us. As grandparents, we stayed in the bedroom with ensuite and its own patio door entrance. This worked for us rather like a granny flat as we were able to come and go without disturbing the cats or rest of the family.
Having our own terrace meant on wonderfully clear August nights we used our top terrace to stargaze. Low levels of light pollution in Bigbury-on-sea meant the Milky Way and shooting stars were clearly visible.
Despite being close to other dwellings, the bungalow feels very private with the high fences surrounding the patio and terraces, even though still giving sea views. We found it peaceful.
Bigbury-on-sea is ideal for children, having a sandy beach which is cleaned twice a day by the tides. One side has rocks with rock pools. Beautiful views of nearby bays and Burgh Island. Beach cafe is good for takeaways to the beach.
We felt Eamonn and Linda were ideal hosts, managing to balance caring for us and giving us privacy. They left lots of goodies, as well as some toys and a few cat toys.
On rainy days, the caravan park at Challaborough was useful as it had a small soft play, amusements and indoor pool. There’s also an Art Cafe in Kingsbridge where children can paint pottery.
Our best Sunday lunch was in The Journey’s End pub at Ringmore (you need to book). Ringmore also has an interesting old church with medieval wall paintings.
House and location was awesome...we loved it. 5 Stars
On arrival house spotless. Super organised with welcome book etc explaining everything. Cheeky welcome pack with a bottle of plonk and some goodies...nice touch 8) Perfect spot being very close to beach. The Island is just stunning and the kids played all day on the beach. Eamon and Linda were always on hand if we had an issue.
We will be back !! Kids cried when we had to go.

Amazing house and location
The house is totally charming and just a moment from the the fabulous sandy beach at Bigbury. Our dogs had an amazing run on there every day and up Burgh Island. We have stayed in several properties at Easter and this has been our absolute favourite. We even had Devon cream scones and lots of lovely extra touches waiting for us when we arrived. Just lovely 😊
Spacious, comfortable, light and pleasant. The hosts were very helpful and left welcoming goodies
Easy to find and access the property. All was as stated and was as good as in the pictures! There is a view of the sea and Burgh Island though this is partly obscured by other bungalows - nevertheless very pleasant and even better from the two outside patios - weather permitting!
Everything was in very good condition and very well equipped as stated in particulars. A travel cot was provided on request and plenty of information about local attractions etc is provided. The coast is stunning with lovely walks, surfing, kite flying etc. and Burgh Island is a unique experience - walking over the sand causeway or taking the sea tractor (if operating). We enjoyed lunch and drinks at the Pilchard Inn on the island. Overall a lovely two night stay and excellent value. Highly recommended and we will come again!
Thank you for your lovely review we enjoyed hosts you and your family. Hope you had a safe trip home and we look forward to welcoming you in the future!
