About the property

Fantastic location in the Park Place Historic District near the Falls

The house is a large old Victorian built in 1890. It has been recently rescued and renovated. It has four bedrooms and two full bathrooms on the second floor. The HUGE living room, library and dining room, kitchen and half bath are on the first floor. It is fully furnished for you to make yourselves at home. The kitchen is stocked with all the items you need to make your own meals if you wish. If you do not wish to cook, there are restaurants 1 block away on Third Street and more near the Falls.

The front porch is a lovely place to relax in the evening after a day of sightseeing or grill up some dinner in the backyard/garden. There is dedicated parking for up to 3 cars off the alley behind the house.

About Carroll Reetz

We are avid travelers and running this guesthouse allows us some freedom in the off season to do just that. Carroll spent most of her career in Human Resources but gave it all up (darn) several years ago to open a hostel in Niagara Falls- leaving the wonderful California weather behind but gaining a wonderful husband. Andre is from Germany and we found each other here! We have since expanded from the hostel and added a couple vacation rentals to our endeavors. We think they are a great alternative to a sterile hostel - more like home away from home.

Carroll Reetz purchased this house in 2014

Why Carroll Reetz chose Greater Niagara

Over the last several years, we have purchased several homes and brought them back to life. When Andre saw this one on the market, we thought long and hard about it since it needed a lot of work. But could not let it go. It is a beautiful old home in a fabulous location near the Falls. This is an area undergoing revitalization and we are thrilled to be a part of it.

What makes this house unique

The house is LARGE. It is our only house that will accommodate 8-12 people. There are 2 full and 1 half bath and two staircases (front and back). It is ideal for large families or reunions with friends. It is also a great place for preparing for a wedding at the Falls. Plenty of space for all.

The house was amazing and the location to the falls was good too.

My experience was great. The house was spacious. The location was great. The only downside is that the ny side of the falls is completely deserted. Its kind of said seeing everything boarded up. Outside of that we had a lot of fun there.

Served Our Purposes Really Well

  • 5 of 5

We spent our Thanksgiving here with my family in the area (they all live in small apartments). The living and dining spaces were very large and comfortable. Plenty of seating in both spaces too.

Going in, I knew it was an older property and feared it'd be drafty and cold durning later November, but was pleasantly surprised that was not the case, we were all warm enough. Also, the rooms are very quiet at night (but again, they may be because no one is out at night in November in NF).

Only draw back was a small older kitchen. But, it was functional enough and had working appliances, so it was not that much of a problem.

The owners are very quick in their message responses, too.

The house was clean and smelled clean. The information to nearby stores and the falls was beneficial. There was plenty of parking and the house was spacious. We really enjoyed our stay!

True home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful experience! Carroll and hubby are beautiful people to deal with; super helpful, super sweet and super simple to do business with, you will not regret staying here! You are truly in walking distance to the falls. Overall so happy with my rental, nothing needed to improve, thank you again for providing a home for my family to enjoy. Stay here if you are going to go visit the falls or Buffalo in general, you will not regret it. Thank you!!

The property was great - nicely restored, well kept and spacious for 10 people.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the Mint for 2 nights recently with an extended family of 6 adults and 4 kids. The bunk beds were a big hit with the kids. 3 full bedrooms were also great for the 6 adults-3 couples. House was nicely restored and beautifully kept. Kitchen and grill were very useful. Location of the property with regards to the Falls was great. The owners were very responsive, from booking to responding both over the phone or in person when we needed. Was walking distance to a few very good restaurants. We had a great meal at 'Wine on 3rd'.

My only concern was the neighborhood as the house next door was boarded up, as were few others within the block. One even had a condemned notice posted at its front. Just an FYI for future renters.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed our house and its location. As stated in our listing, Niagara Falls is a post industrial city that like many others on the Great Lakes, has lost half its population over the last 30 years. The result is empty houses. Our neighborhood is the Park Place Historic District and is seeing a resurgence, but there is still work to be done. Condemned signs usually just mean that the water has been shut off to the property since it is vacant and is not an indication of the state of the house. However, other houses do need to be torn down but that takes time and money. It is something we are always on the city about. Thanks for staying with us and being part of the revitalization.

This was a great home. Plenty of space for my whole family (6 adults and 3 toddlers). The location worked well too, you can walk to the Rainbow Bridge and the Aquarium. Only a short drive to Goat island and those areas. The owners were helpful and replied quickly to any questions we had.

The house is situated in the Park Place Historic District within a typical rust belt city. It is a national historic district located at Niagara Falls in Niagara County, New York. It encompasses 89 contributing buildings. It is principally a residential district built up between 1885 and 1928. The dominant architectural styles are Italianate, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Arts and Crafts.

This an urban environment with a diverse racial and socioeconomic population. While many of the big old houses in the area are lovely and well maintained, there are others that are neglected or empty. It is an area that is slowly being brought back to life with new people and energy.
