About Gwen Albers

We purchased the Moonshiner Cabin in 2013. Two years later, my husband, Bob and I, gave up our 30-plus-year careers in aviation and journalism, respectively, to become caretakers on a 45,000-acre ranch in New Mexico. The goal was to get closer to my 87-year-old mother while trying something different. The move gave us the opportunity to share our home in Bryson City -- a place we plan to retire to one day. We appreciate Bryson City for its rivers, boating, fishing, hiking, scenery, people and tranquility. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we have.

Why Gwen Albers chose Bryson City

This home is in a perfect location. It's secluded and private, yet only minutes away from a main highway for visiting Cherokee, Bryson City, Fontana Lake, the Nantahala Gorge and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was a great experience! It's a great place to bring the family or go on a couple's getaway! There are so many things to do. Such as white water rafting, zip lining, Deep Creek tubing, shopping, dining and much more!

Great weekend

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful time while staying here for the weekend. Close to Bryson City and several activities. Well stocked and clean. Plenty of firewood for the pit outside and the hot tub was perfect. Nice views from around the house and porch area. The bed was smaller than we are use to so it was a bit of a tight fit but nothing terrible. The porch chairs are worn from weather but still comfortable so don’t avoid them. We absolutely loved using them off the porch to star gaze! So many stars visible! Just gorgeous. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your cabin. We had a wonderful weekend.

We enjoyed our stay. Everything was comfortable and clean. Great couples retreat.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed spending time together, in a somewhat concluded cabin. It was nice getting away from the hustle and bustle of life, but it was also close enough to town. We were close enough to visit Gatlinburg for a day as well as the casino in Cherokee. On our last day we enjoyed the train ride at the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, in Bryson City. Overall it was a wonderful way to spend our four year anniversary. We will definitely visit again.

Wonderful property - clean and quaint!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Moonshiners Cabin - it was perfectly sized for our family of 4 and very clean! The property is off a main road, so easily accessible, but still feels remote and private. Great view of the mountains! Lots of outdoor space.

The only thing I will warn about this property is that there is a loft and walkway that may not be great for families with kids. I wouldn’t let my 5 year old go up there or sleep up there because he could have easily fallen over.

Surprisingly wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time during our short stay at the cabin. It's a really charming place. The slightly small kitchen was plenty for us to cook a nice meal. And we really enjoyed the hot tub. We didn't try either of the upstairs beds but we slept just fine on the one downstairs. Dry fire wood was provided which was nice. We got up and drove to tsali and mountain biked. It was really close - like 15ish minutes from the cabin. The only thing that would make it better is being able to bring our greyhound!

Motorcycle Trip

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was exactly what is shown in the pictures. Very clean, nice location and peaceful. Had everything you would need towels, dish soap, pots, pans, papertowels, etc. for a long weekend. Wide open and spacious cabin, not a lot of privacy if you had company but great for a couple or even small family. Hot tub was relaxing and peaceful over looking the hill. Gravel driveway is very steep but we made it with a full size truck while pulling a motorcycle trailer. If you not a seasoned rider, this would not be the driveway for you to tackle. We arrive late at night and the road was very dark. The driveway is marked but very hard to see. In the day time, it was much easier to find. Excellent location to ride the Tail of the Dragon (1 hour away) and you are right on Moonshiners 28, very nice ride, too. Had a relaxing time and enjoyed ourselves. Thanks for sharing your wonderful cabin.
