About the property

A tranquil, dog-friendly, holiday destination for the whole family. Our 400 year old farmhouse sleeps 8 and is dog friendly. It is set within 5.5 acres of landscaped grounds including a 1.5 acre well stocked fishing lake, orchard, sun terrace, games area and pool. All exclusively yours for the duration of your stay.

The Charente is the second sunniest region of France so we have obviously placed plenty of emphasis on the outdoors. This might be a relaxing walk around the lake or exploring and taking in the abundant wildlife. It could be laid back on a lounger, soaking up the sun, or floating on a ring in the pool while you read a book. You can exclusively fish the spring fed lake or if you fancy something a bit more sociable you can sit around the BBQ and play any number of outdoor games.

The lake is stocked with a head of carp to over 30lb and growing. There are also sturgeon, grass carp, tench, pike and roach.

This is a holiday destination for the whole family. The living room comes complete with full SKY TV, so there's plenty of sport and several movie channels available including the football and F1, plus all the usual children's channels including Disney.

Upstairs there is a second TV with an Xbox 360 and plenty of games as well as another DVD player so there should be disagreements regarding what to watch. The kids room also comes with an assortment of games and books.

The games room comes complete with a full size snooker table and dart board while the sun room is equipped with nothing but pleasant views, plenty of light and big window sills or sofas on which to chill and catch up with some reading.

The house is available all year round and comes complete with full central heating as well as a log burner in the main living room.

We have tried to take the best we have seen from our years of holidaying in France so we hope you'll want for nothing. Bedding and towels are included so you can travel lighter and we have a dishwasher plumbed in as well as all the usual mod cons. The kitchen comes complete with kettle, coffee maker and Tassimo.

The house is located on the border with the Dordogne and Limousin. If you like the outdoors then you are in the heart of some beautiful countryside, the Perigord Limousin National Park is only 300 metres away and the area is crossed by fantastic cycle routes. You are only 10 minuets away from the great lakes of the Upper Charente and their beaches, watersports and restaurants.

If you need a little bit of retail therapy you are only 15-25 minutes away from the picturesque towns of Montbron, Rochechouart and Chabanais but if you need something larger you are only 45 minutes from Angouleme and 50 minutes from Limoges.

It ticked all the boxes. Beautiful grounds with loads of wildlife and a great lake for exclusive fishing. At 1.5 acres it is perfect for casting around without any 'out of reach' places and no need for boats of bait boats.

The area itself is idylic. It is very peaceful, has a wonderful pace of life and friendly towns and villages yet is only 45 minutes from great city shops. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, beaches on the local lake and only 2 hours from some wonderful coastal beaches.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Exclusively yours, no owners on site or nearby and no sharing of the pool, grounds or lake with other holiday makers. The house comes complete with full Sky TV including movies and sports.

Wonderful setting, peaceful. Dogs loved it.

Stayed from 23rd to 30th September. Weather was variable, some rain, high humidity, sunny afternoons. Our 2 dogs loved the freedom of the fenced in property, no leads!! Fishing was on and off due to the afternoon sun, 16lb 8oz mirror carp, 24lb common carp, 11lb 5oz Sturgeon were the best. A Tench about 2lb managed to take a 20mm boilie!! Lots of small carp taken on float and sweetcorn. Very good restaurant only 10 minutes away. All in all an excellent week.

Relaxation, in tranquil and comfortable setting

The gite, is very comfortable with plenty of facilities to keep any couple or family busy throughout their stay. We never used the front door, hence on entering at the rear you are greeted by the huge dinning room, great for evening dinning on the colder night but with a fantastic view of the milky way at night. The main living room has comfortable soft furnishings, dvd's, Sky tv, and plenty of your favourite board and card games. Annexed to that is the small but well equipped kitchen; We decided to bbq most evenings, which was made easy with the purpose built one on the patio. The doorway from kitchen goes through to the garage, store room,this had fishing gear of good quality for landing and protecting some decent sized fish, of which I had a few out the lake this week. It is not a runs water but a half decent angler will be able to pinpoint the hotspots over a few days. I used a handful of boilies over a bed of pellet, Dynamite "The Source" seemed a winning bait but also Nash Candy nut crush 15mm both bottom bait presentation worked - single or doubles. Worth taking out fishy baits as back up.

The property is very dog friendly and our pooch Coco the springer spaniel had the best time of her life' she is not new to french holidays but we saw a real spark in her while she was staying here...as playful as she was as a puppy. The overground pool is substantial but was too cold for us when we stayed

It must be said the owners have made sure you have a home away from home, and Matt (owner) goes out of his way to help with any enquiry and support necessary for an enjoyable stay. There are going to be some updates made around the lake and I look forward to returning to take advantage of these and the rest of the house.
