Overview

About the property

Spacious, secluded and inspirational; Long term stays welcomed and discounted

Space....Can you image being a short drive from a quaint village and yet when darkness descends, you do not see a single light from another residence? And during the night you hear coyotes yipping and howling in the distance; exotic birds and Great Horned Owls calling softly from the oak trees. And during the warm moonlit nights you can smell a sweet perfume emanating from the earth. Like pure water, space is getting harder to find.

Encompassing multiple stories, it is a grand statement in a tranquil setting only minutes from the Carmel Valley Village. Possessing six decks, vaulted ceilings, skylights, large windows, four sets of glass French doors, it is naturally airy and spacious. Constructed of redwood inside and out, it has a wonderful earthy feel with little separation from nature. The crowning gem of this home is the "Skyroom" which is the top story of the home. Essentially, it is a room and a deck emerging from the rooftop that provide miles of views in all directions; in the dark of the night the Milky Way seems to float only a short distance away.

Up a flight of stairs to the large entry-way deck, one enters the main floor of the home through a set of glass French doors. The open floor plan encompasses the kitchen, dining area, and living room all flowing together over Saultillo tile. A full bathroom and washer/dryer are located on this floor. Additionally, the huge entry-way-deck is ideal for outdoor gathering, dining, and grilling.

The master suite occupies the majority of the next story. The vaulted ceiling rises above a massive medieval-like chandelier. Recessed lighting provides a warm ambiance in the evening. The suite includes a king-size bed. The bath has a custom tiled shower, a whirlpool tub and three sinks. From the suite there is also access to three private decks, all of which are on different sides of the home.

The spacious second bedroom possesses a queen-size bed, lots of closet space, a spacious loft and a private deck beyond glass the French doors.

About Laurie Petkus

The owners of the home have been residents of Carmel Valley for over fifty years. Their appreciation for spatial qualities is apparent in the design and décor of the home and the land which the home rests upon. The home was designed and constructed by the owner and is regarded with reverence by contractors, architects, artists and anyone that is able to experience it.

Why Laurie Petkus chose Carmel Valley

This property is part of the historic Rancho Carmelo Dude Ranch that was flourishing during the 1930s-1950s. This was the first dude ranch in California. The old buildings are long gone but the graciousness and peacefulness of an earlier time is still apparent.

The spirit of a simpler and very enjoyable period of time is alive at this modest working cattle ranch. The landscape is teaming with flora and fauna; it is a microclimate unto itself.

Spectacular Scenery and Unmatched Hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Our stay with Laurie in Carmel Valley far exceeded our expectations in every way. The house provides unbeatable views in all directions, and is furnished very comfortably. The location allowed us to take day trips to Big Sur, the Monterey Aquarium, Point Lobos State Park, and we even had a chance to spend some free time with the horses and cattle that live on the property. Our family will definitely be returning to see Laurie again!

The views from the all the decks speak for themselves. The house is relaxing, clean and spacious. This is a great place for a guys trip as well as if you want to bring the entire family. Camel Valley is a beautiful area and I highly recommend this house. Laurie was professional and easy to work with. I hope to bring my wife and kids to see this place one day!! Thank you Laurie

Great get-away

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful and amazing. The sky room was probably my favorite part.

Laurie was an excellent host and met us when we checked in to give us a brief tour of the place. My friends and I all really enjoyed it and my only regret is not staying longer. We hope to return soon for a longer stay.

Great spring respite

  • 5 of 5

My wife, son and I enjoyed an extended weekend at this property. Laurie was nice to meet us at the property and give us helpful suggestions as to things to do in the area which were tailored to our interest. The property served as a great home base as we explored down to Big Sur and all around the Monterey bay. We enjoyed starting our mornings with the beautiful views from the balcony and all of the comfortable amenities. The star room provided for nice relaxation, and we enjoyed the jetted tub. We would be happy to return to this property for an even longer stay in the future!

A slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

The house and its location did not disappoint. It sits high among beautiful, gracious oaks and the views from the decks and house are amazing.

The house was well equipped with all the things we needed, including the most comfortable beds ever.

Laurie was wonderful. She gave us a tour of the house and pointed out where things were and gave us recommendations to great dining places.

She checked in with us to make sure that things were going well, which we appreciated.

We look forward to out next visit.
