Good size for a couple or smalll family.

Positive's :The place was easy to find. It was close to town for walking. For a two night stay it was fine. Two bedrooms, each had a double or very small queen in them. Having a kitchen was great, but they didn't have a cookie sheet or tray.

Negatives: I was expecting a cottage, not a pole barn that was converted into an efficiency. The garage had a bad musty ,moldy smell, that if you didn't keep the door closed the smell would permeate into the living area.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay in Grand Marais. We are sorry about the musty smell you experienced although we were unable to detect any odor when checking on the issue. The kitchen is equipped with 2 cookie sheets. I am sorry you did not see them. Babe's was built in a pole barn (as pictured here on VRBO) by Uncle Babe on part of the original Peterson properties here in Grand Marais. He wanted to live next to Aunt Hilda and it was the outside structure he could afford. He spent his money building out the inside. It is very nice as expressed in our reviews. It is not an efficiency...lol!! We have become a VERY cost efficient stay in downtown Grand Marais close to EVERYTHING! We hope you find accommodations that better meet your needs on your next visit. As always, thank you for visiting!

Peaceful, stress-free, beautiful....

  • 5 of 5

Don't let the outside fool ya! The interior was WONDERFUL!! Bedrooms were comfortable, kitchen was WELL stocked, bathrooms clean.... We felt right at home. Grand Marais was a great place to make our home-base. We traveled from Babe's Place to Whitefish Point and Munising. Perfect location to explore the UP. We would cook dinner then walked to town for ice cream then to the bay. Or breakfast, then a short walk to the bakery. And our adult time was either by the fire pit or a short walk to the Lake Superior Brewing Co. FYI... we had limited cell service and no wifi. The adults LOVED IT! The kids sat on deck off the den (the only place to get service.) We enjoyed our time and look forward to visiting again!!

Great place to stay - especially if you're enjoying the outdoors and bringing gear with you.

  • 4 of 5

Really enjoyed our 4 night stay at Babe's Place. We were attending the Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium and needed space for all our gear and comfortable surroundings to rest and relax in. We weren't disappointed.

Clean and well appointed, the only think missing that we would have appreciated was WIFI. The walk through garage space was perfect for drying and airing out our paddling gear and storing my kayak trailer securely while we were there. The house/cabin is situated at the end of a dead end street with woods on one side - lovely birdsong in the morning/evening and a friendly neighbor on the other. I'd definitely rent here again.

very comfortable place

  • 5 of 5

We had a nice 2 night stay here. As I was searching for places to stay many had a 3 night minimum. We just did not have time for 3 nights and this was one of the few that offered the 2 nights. It was perfect for me and my 2 former exchange students. The place was a quick walk from the harbor. It was stocked with all that we needed and the extra half bath was a plus. We did lose power on the first morning, but it did not interfere with anything and it was back on when we returned from our day trip. We enjoyed touring nearby attractions.

Great place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at Babe's Place. The house was clean, the beds were comfortable and it was very quiet. It is the perfect place to stay if you want to be tech free because there is no wifi or signal at the house and that was fine by us. It is also a great place to stay if someone has trouble walking because there were only two steps into the house. My father, who has trouble walking and lifting his legs, was able to navigate his way in and out with no problem. The bathroom is not conveniently located for those in the east bedroom who need it in the night but we managed. Grand Marais is a favorite place of ours because it is a peaceful, beautiful little town. The people are friendly and helpful and the beach is only a few blocks away. You must visit the agate museum; it's a real gem! We would definitely rent this house again. Thank you John and Toni.

Wonderful stay for a snowmobiling weekend

  • 5 of 5

We are avid snowmobilers and love riding in the UP around Grand Marais and Seney. Babe's place was very accommodating for me, my husband and 2 young children. Babe's place was very clean, had nice linens, towels and kitchen amenities. Our kids absolutely loved our stay and liked playing on the snow hills outside. The owners were so kind to leave us some fresh goodies to eat as well! We will definitely visit again next year!
