Magnificent, well appointed rooms & outdoor space perfect for group celebrations

How do our wandering paths end up here? By sheer magic. Our respective careers have taken us throughout the world, and here we are at last, dedicating our lives and hearts to Dunskey Estate. The Estate and Castle have been kept largely private, and their untouched charm and resplendence are, quite possibly, Scotland's best kept secrets. We have been spirited away by the Dunskey grandeur, and we cannot wait to show you all its treasures. The doors are flung wide open. The splendour is found, the magic awaits. We welcome you. Anne and Ali met in an art gallery in Saigon, Vietnam. At the time, Anne was working with several NGOs on anti human trafficking in the Mekong Delta. Ali was sauntering around on his motorbike as a CEO of a real estate consultancy company. For unknown reasons, Ali managed to obtain Anne's phone number, after deciding that she was the woman he is going to marry. Eight months later, on their second date, they were engaged, with round cross-cut of a chilli pepper serving as an engagement ring. It's been spicy ever since.
Why Anne chose Stranraer
Dunskey is perfect for making your own adventures whether amongst the twisted and gnarled old beech trees in the woods, at the lochs where you can take the boat out, down the fairy glen or at one of the 3 beeches. We might also suggest; fly fishing for rainbow trout; sea fishing for mackerel; golf on the 18 hole course, kayaking along the craggy shoreline; scavenger hunt throughout the estate, a beach BBQ, rifle shooting, deer stalking, clay pigeons, fly your kite its often windy, a tour of the botanical garden and the woodland walks, hiking, horse riding. Inside the Castle The stately Baronial castle, completed at the turn of the century, has opened its doors for the first time in history. The castle was designed by James Kennedy Hunter for CL Orr Ewing. Mr Orr Ewing had only just commissioned 2 famous yachts; the 36ft Heartseas in 1896 which won almost every race she sailed and, in 1897, the schooner Rainbow which was the first modern schooner built in Britain and the fastest such vessel on the water at the time. He built Dunskey Castle with same quality of craftsmanship as can be seen in the impressive ceilings, the fireplaces, the woodwork throughout and the fittings of the highest quality. Many of the original features still survive today.
What makes this Castle unique
Absolutely incredible catering is offered exclusively for our guests. Our fully stocked larder is also available. Please get in touch. On our doorsteps, the woodlands stretch into the ocean. In it, beautiful mushrooms dot the forager's trail. Our vegetable garden supplies an endless array of organic fruits and produce, from a highly curated collection of herbs such as lemon verbena and Doone Valley thyme, to lovely rhubarb and Jerusalem artichokes. A few minutes away from the Estate is the largest and natural oyster bed in the UK. The icy Atlantic waters supply the freshest and succulent seafood we have ever tasted, including feisty lobsters, fatty mackerels, and a seemingly unlimited supply of crabs. The Estate is proud to provide high-grade game meats to our guests. Our free range, organic venison is professional prepared and package, available in different cuts, and is hugely versatile. Pheasants are always readily available for braising and roasting, or you can leave the hard work to us and order our ready-to-serve Dunskey pheasant stew with wild mushroom and chestnut dumplings. We love eating with the seasons and using local ingredients from our friends who supply directly to the Estate. The Dunskey Larder is always fully stocked with wild ducks, rabbits, home-roasted nuts, and a wide selection of freshly baked loaves, cakes, and other goodies. For our guests in the Castle, we offer exclusive catering. Choose from an eclectic set of menus that reflect our international nomadic lives, but always grounded in local products and exceptional quality. We are love to showcase creative dishes, with unexpected blend of heritage Scottish and British cuisines with Asian methodologies or Californian flavours.
