About Chris and Marie Iden

Chris is a retired computer game developer (you can find his name on many of Sierra Online's adventure games - particularly the Kings Quest Series) who still enjoys coding to support Marie's real estate website. Marie helps visitors find the perfect home in the local real estate market. Specializing in working with future retirees looking for a less stressful area or perhaps finding a 2nd home to establish forever memories of family get-aways. Shown here are two of their grown children and their families, gathered to celebrate her birthday. Everyone enjoys visits where they rent a party barge on Bass Lake, fixing breakfast while paddling a rubber boat at Manzanita Lake, or playing volleyball on the court at the clubhouse. Truth be told - mostly everyone enjoys the idyllic restful mountains where each follows their personal freedom to explore.

Way More House Than You Think

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Owl's Nest for five nights in July 2015. The house is much bigger than the listing implies. In addition to the living room, dining room, kitchen and three bedrooms--which was plenty of space for our family of four--there was large great room that could easily accommodate 6-8 more people. The house is very comfortable and there's everything you need. The owners are generous with all of the household supplies--a very gracious touch. We loved the owl theme! We went to Yosemite three times during our stay, and it was a 40 minute drive to the gate. It's about 25 minutes to Oakhurst which has a nice array of grocery stores and restaurants. We have been renting houses from Home Away/VRBO for more than a dozen years. This ranks among our best.

We loved the place

  • 4 of 5

Or stay at the Owl's Nest was just perfect. My two girlfriends (who live in LA) and I (who live in the Bay Area) met up in the middle (of California) for a weekend getaway with our kids. The kids all had a space, we grownups each had a space and the common living areas provided for great meeting places for everyone or as smaller groups. The rooms were fun and perfect for each of us. The outdoor space was beautiful and made us feel as though we were in the middle of nowhere (which was what we were going for). The kitchen provided everything we needed, the location of the house was prime to Bass Lake, which is where we travelled to for our full day there and we fully enjoyed ourselves. All in all, we'll be going back, but we want to stay longer and bring more people because 12 sleeping in the space, rather than 8 seems the way to go. It's a house that can be used and enjoyed thoroughly. (And this isn't a reflection of the house, but we sure would have loved a hot tub. I keep saying this just because I like an activity in the house where I am staying to entertain myself in the down time that also provides respite and relief, but the house really was perfect.) The house was clean and well-maintained. I would definitely recommend this to friends and families. The listing description is accurate and informative. The hosts were personable and helpful.

The property was really nice. Very comfortable and get like being at home

  • 4 of 5

The house was terrific. Plenty of space and comfort for everyone in our party. The location of the house was perfect too. We were close enough to Bass Lake and Yosemite to be able to get to both very easily in a short amount of time.

Lovely House. Great for a large group.

  • 4 of 5

Listing accurate, property clean, great view, lovely deck. Good for a large group. We had 9 people and it worked just fine.

Note that although the house is only 4 miles from "downtown" northfork, its on a narrow, steep, windy road. I wouldn't want to drive it the first time in the dark.

Owner's Response: Hi Jaz and thanks for your whole group taking extra good care of our home. The road to our home is a typical mountain road - except ours is paved and beautifully maintained by our friends at the Madera County Road Department. For this we are grateful. It was built and still complies with full government standards; this and their level of care is not standard for many of the Vacation Rentals in our area. :-) Marie and Chris

We enjoyed this space for two nights with a day trip to Bass Lake. The house was well furnished and equipped for our two families. The stars at night are amazing!

A lovely holday house set in the Sierra forest, just as described.

This was a perfect house for a family reunion before our son's wedding. There was a crib and a highchair for the baby andcomfortable bedrooms and clean bathrooms for the adults. Slight reservations about the kitchen where some of the mugs and bowls were not quite clean when we arrived- we think the dishwasher wasn't washing very well but the laundry equipment all worked fine. Marie went out of her way to make our stay a memorable one and we would certainly like to come back to this part of the world to do more exploring.

Car: necessary

Wake to the quiet of a 3 acre mountain top retreat. Enjoy the fresh scent of pine trees and bear clover. Sip your morning coffee from your quiet, private deck. Go for a walk in the meadow and watch the squirrels scurry through the trees. If you are quiet, a mother deer and her twin fawns may sneak up for a closer look at their new visitor. Once your family is awake you can jump into your car for a look around the wonders of the nation's premier National Park. In Yosemite Valley you can bring your binoculars to see climbers tackling world famous rock walls like Cathedral Dome. You can expect to see coyotes in the meadows, deer and possibly a bear or raccoon watching you nearby. Save time to visit the Yosemite Park Museum and enjoy the history of this magnificent natural landmark.

Another experience not to be missed is launch your own watercraft or rent a speedboat or party barge (use your 20% off coupon that we provide) to enjoy the warm water at Bass Lake. Bass, trout and Kokanee salmon are caught in Bass Lake and the surrounding streams.

Your base at Yosemite Owls Nest sits in the historic Cascadel apple ranch surrounded on all 4 sides by the Sierra National Forest. Maps of hiking and biking trails are provided with directions for you to picnic next to Whisky Creek in the park-like walking meadows. A volleyball is provided for the court located at the clubhouse.

No matter whether you came for an extended quiet rest in your own 'private summer camp' or prefer to spend your days exploring the Sierra Mountains, your hosts will help you discover all these mountains have to offer.
