This cabin sits on a property with another building that houses our Loft Suite and Studio Suite (listing 491506). The property has been designed with guest privacy in mind. The cabin has the maximum amount of privacy being located at the rear of the property. If you don't see your preferred dates available, please visit our other listings for their availability!
*The property behind ours has a restaurant/pub. Occasionally they have live music which may drift your way. They don't cater to a late-night crowd. There is a privacy fence between the properties.
Royston Retreat is owned and operated by Anna and Darryl. Our love for our shoreline and wildlife brought us to design and build custom vacation suites for those looking for a unique and restoring experience to those visiting the area.
Both raised in the Comox Valley, we have travelled local land and waters extensively and will help you to discover the best the area has to offer.
Anna Palumbo purchased this cabin in 2011
This property has been designed and built with vacation rentals in mind. Inspired by the view, we strive to make the most of what the property has to offer and love to provide our guests with the little extras that make a stay special!
Great location, great ambiance, great hosts!
My husband and I spent 3 nights in late October here....to get away from the crazy city (Vancouver). The cabin was very comfortable with decent cooking equipment. It was very clean and we liked the movable drapery (gave us privacy and light at same time). I would ask for is a small dining table inside. It was too cold/damp to use the outside table, so we ate at the coffee table (not great for my back). Location was perfect, loved the seaside walk and views. Saw many eagles, ducks and fish. Sadly we did not use the kayaks or bikes......way too much rain!
We have rented apartments around the world and have to say that we really enjoyed staying in this cabin while visiting our daughter who lives in Courtenay. It is clean and the bed is comfortable - two important criteria for us. Also loved having the washer and dryer. While it is on a bus route, having a car is ideal. We recommend that 2 more chairs be added to the high top table. Also, we agree with a previous reviewer who recommended a night table on closet side of the bed - I suggest a small chest of drawers. Enjoyed walks by the water - lots of bird life. Unfortunately weather wasn't warm enough for kayaks but we hope to return and use them. Loved the guest book and so we added a couple of recommendations for restaurants in the area. Anna communicated well with us and we would definitely recommend to others.
We had a great time staying at the cabin which is in a great location from which to explore the Comox Valley area. Superb hiking in Strathcona Park is easily accessible & very close to Courtenay & Comox. We made full use of the bikes that come with the rental & loved the trail running along the coast from Royston towards Courtenay, but sadly didn't have time to use the kayaks!! The cabin was well maintained & perfect for us with full kitchen & laundry facilities per the online description. 'Roy's Towne' pub to the rear of the cabin is handy for a cold beer after a long day walking while there are excellent restaurants in Comox/Courtenay...the Black Fun pub in Comox has good views & good food. Anna was very helpful when making the reservation but we really didn't have reason to chat while there as everything went smoothly. Very reasonably priced, great location & good amenities.
Thanks, Nigel & Maggie Bowman [Austin, TX]
p.s. one very small minor detail...I'd recommend a bedside table & lamp on the closet side of the bedroom as I had to drag the lamp from the lounge in to read at night!!
This cabin is a gem. Great location, central to the sights and shopping but also the beaches and lakes. We ventured into Cumberland at the owner's suggestion and what a cool little town that is! We had a blast at the Waverley, Cumberland's bar/music venue and it was only ten minutes from the property.
There were four of us and the sofa bed was very comfy, above what you'd expect. Loved the little perks of coffee, tea, etc. It was so nice to sit on the patio with coffee in the morning! It rained one of the days were were there but we still hosted an outside bbq under the cover, so that was great!
We hope to come back soon!
The cabin at Royston retreat was just what we needed after being on the road for two weeks! The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The location was excellent. Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The beach at low tide was wonderful for long walks and great beachcombing. Our golden retriever loved it here and did not want to leave! I would return again and recommend it to friends, The only minor thing is that it would be nice to have a small microwave.
Such a cute and clean little cabin. Location in relation to proximity to the ocean and also for getting in to Courtenay and Comox is great. It is on a quiet little 'country' road that runs along the ocean and is lovely for evening strolls. Not a 'suntanning' beach, rather more of an exploration one...which my toddler loved to do when the tide was out. Unfortunately we didn't get the chance, between our schedule and the tide's schedule, to utilize the kayaks but it is FANTASTIC that they are there for the using and the beach is literally 2 mins walk to put them in the water. The cabin itself is great....a nice sized kitchen with FULL SIZED Fridge and stove and the BEST thing EVER is that there is a washer and dryer IN THE CABIN!!!! So awesome to have them! The hosts are excellent for communications and responded very quickly to queries/requests. One thing to note is that the cabin on the property backs onto the pub so at times there were conversations/smoking that wafted our way from their guests that were outside and some road/car noise but certainly nothing enough to inconvenience us and I would absolutely stay here again...in fact thinking of booking already for next summer!
This oceanside neighbourhood is a bird sanctuary with birds from all over flocking to its shores during the cooler months. The weather in this bay is often sunnier than inland as the clouds like to stick to the mountains and is sheltered from direct winds.
There are many picnic areas and benches to enjoy the scenery as well as a nearby kayak launch point. The north end of the road is home to the Royston Shipwrecks. Our property faces south east to the Comox Harbour.
The Comox Valley is rich in recreation activities and the arts. Pretty much anything you can dream up is available to you!
