Why Jill Massey chose Durham
Gilesgate is one of the oldest areas of Durham, and is part of the historical conservation area. St Gile's Church is believed to be the oldest church after the cathedral. Historic Durham is only a 15 minute walk with a selection of attractions, restaurants and bars. Cade's House is named after Cade's Road which was the Roman road that crossed the river nearby. Close to the house there is a Sainsbury's local, Esso petrol station, hairdressers, bakery, cafe, and food outlets. A personal recommendation is the Lebanese takeaway about 200m walk if you fancy a night in. There is a retail park including a Tesco Extra open 24 hours. Listed as a World Heritage Site, Durham cathedral, castle and cobbled streets are a must to visit with medieval architecture, the Oriental Museum, Botanic Gardens, Gala Theatre, and traditional indoor market (established 1851), there is something for everyone! The very popular outdoor Living Museum of Beamish (former European Museum of the Year) is only a 15-minute drive away, and a great value (your ticket will last a whole year if you come back to visit the north east again) family day out for all the family. The Riverside, a top class county cricket ground hosting international test matches, and home of Durham County Cricket Club, is only a 10-minute drive away, and The Ramside Hotel, spa, and golf club boasting two 18-hole championship golf courses, is only a 5 minute drive away. Venturing further afield, guests can enjoy day trips to the magnificent Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland with its castles, superb coastline, and Hadrian's Wall, plus the Scottish Borders
What makes this House unique
A great spacious old house, and the rear is a suntrap. It's great to all be able to sit around, inside or out, and eat and socialise together. A lovely walk into Durham through Pelaw Wood and along the river, if you want to avoid the roads.

Had a lovely time at this property, I was met by Jill who showed me around the house and showed me how everything worked,. Gave us some great advice of what to do while in Durham . Place was lovely and clean photos don’t do it justice. Parking was perfect.. will definitely use this place again as it’s a great location..
Cade's House suited us perfectly as near to the centre of Durham. It was a downhill walk to town and in the evening we would get a taxi back which was very good value ranging from £3.20 to £6.
The cottage was very homely and Jill gave us a warm welcome. Although near a busy road it was very quiet. We each had a bedroom and the beds were very comfy. Good wifi connection.
A great place to stay when visiting Durham and parking at the rear was a bonus.
Thank you Jill. We take home many happy memories.
Lovely house in a great location - easy walking distance of the city centre.
Convenient, clean and comfortable
Three of us stayed here for four nights. This house was an excellent deal even though there were not many of us.
The landlady was very easy to get hold of.
Always a pleasure
Great location and very friendly welcome from the owner (fresh-baked cookies a feature). Stayed before and very pleased to find it available again - book early as it's very popular.
Excellent place in Durham!
Really happy with this wonderful apartment in Durham. Lovely walk (either on streets or through a beautiful wooded path--a bit steep, so be careful!) to the Cathedral and City Centre.
