Overview

About the property

The Home Cottage is close to England's smallest City of Wells, with trendy Frome, the picturesque village of Mells and the Mendip Hills all close by. Bath (where my boys both go to school each day) is also only 14 miles away

The cottage is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with children), and dogs.

The cottage sits at the end of a rural track surrounded by fields. It's architect designed, newly built, cozy and peaceful with stunning views of the countryside around.

Guests can access a series of wonderful footpaths direct from the cottage.

We live just up the track from the cottage and should be available most of the time to help with any queries

A few house rules please:

- No smoking

- Check-in is after 3pm and check out by 10am

- One well behaved dog is welcome; we have wonderful walking. However please not upstairs or on sofas.

- Please respect our little cottage. No food or drink to be taken upstairs.

About Nick

Originally from London,we fell in love with this beautiful and peaceful part of Somerset and bought our house (just up the track from the cottage) seventeen years ago as our weekend place. I now live here full-time and my boys go to school in Bath.

Nick purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Nick chose Radstock

We live on the edge of the Mendips, just outside the village of Stoke St Michael, on the road to Oakhill.

There is lots of walking to be done straight from the cottage. A particular favourite of ours takes us down through the valley to Stoke Bottom and the nature reserves of Edford and Harridge Woods, which are owned by the Somerset Wildlife Trust.

For food shopping, there is a Londis shop and post office, a ten minute walk away in Stoke St Michael.

Local pubs within walking distance include the Oakhill Inn (great pub food and draught beers), The Knatchbull Arms, Stoke St Michael (friendly pub with a more basic offering) and The Duke of Cumberland at Edford. For a real gourmet experience, jump in the car and try the Talbot Inn in the beautiful village of Mells (5 miles)

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage has just been completed and is finished to a high standard, to make a comfortable, cozy, peaceful and relaxing place to stay

So beautiful and perfect

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this cottage was perfect for us. The location was beautiful, the cleanliness of the whole cottage was to a very high standard and the utilities were excellent. We will definitely be staying here again if we go back to Somerset.

Home from home.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was immaculate and extremely cosy. Out of the way which is just how we like it. Lots of places to walk the dogs. Kitchen was well equipped as was the rest of the property. Would certainly love to go again but stay longer next time. I can highly recommend it. Nick was very welcoming as well.

Fabulous little cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was equipped with everything we needed for our stay, and had enough space for 2 adults and a teenager. So nice to stay in a cottage for 4 people with more than 4 cups & plates!! Utility room was great for storing bike equipment, and washing machine essential for dealing with the mud (we stayed in October). Cottage was warm and peaceful, nearest neighbours - owls, squirrels, cows.

Country bliss

  • 5 of 5

As we reflect back on our recent stay at the cosy cottage, I can honestly say , things couldn't have been better. The setting is absolutely beautiful and the location was perfect for exploring the most stunning regions of the English countryside. We took advantage of the recommendation book provided in the cottage and visited every village that was listed, over the course of eight days. Each village was filled with small shops and cafes and rich with character and charm.

The cottage itself was well equipped. We cooked breakfast and dinner daily, was able to do a bit of laundry, and thoroughly enjoyed the wood stove in the evening and the powerful warm showers in the mornings. Nick was available anytime needed any was kind and accommodating. He saved us from near starvation when we arrived, after a long flight from the US, by providing eggs for us from his own chickens. And the thoughtful touches such as the fresh flower bouquet in the cottage made us feel at home. This is a cottage you want to rent if you want to relax and sink yourself into all the countryside has to offer. Thank you, Thank you!!

Wunderschönes Cottage bei Stoke St. Michael

  • 5 of 5

A lovely cottage in a wonderful setting

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay and hope to spend a few more days next year exploring a lovely part of Somerset . This cottage is ideally suited for a relaxing holiday for those who enjoy walking and the wildlife. Local Pub is good for a real ale or two!
