About the property

Beautiful Waterfront Home With Direct Views Of The Mendenhall Glacier

Kingfisher House sits on banks of the Gastineau Channel. The front of the home gives way to the lush tide grass of the Mendenhall Wildlife Reserve. Beyond is the Mendenhall Glacier and surrounding mountains. This setting makes the home both a great place to base your Alaska adventures and a wonderful place to relax.

Hike or fish right from the front door, fishing poles and boots are provided

Popular fishing spots include right out front in the Gastineau Channel, a half mile away at Fish Creek and three miles away at Picnic Cove. All are easily accessible and successful spots. Four medium weight spin casting rods are provided and include enough swivels and spoons to get started.

Five bikes are available, two small children's bikes and three adults sized.Biking in the neighborhood or further out North Douglas is a popular activity.

A selection of rubber boots are provided for tromping around the wetlands.

We have furnished the home with good quality furniture. Likewise all beds and linens are new and good quality.

The home has four bedrooms and sleeps nine easily.

The master bedroom suite is on the second floor, it includes two separate sinks and shower and a sitting area with probably the best views in the house. Also on the second floor are two other bedrooms which share a full bath with a jetted Jacuzzi tub. Both are spacious, one having a queen bed and the other a queen and a single. Both have water views.

The first floor is barrier free including the 4th bedroom, which doubles as a media room when not used as a bedroom. Upon request we will add a standard queen bed to the room. It is big enough that it is still quite usable as a tv room.

The kitchen includes a breakfast nook and seating at an island. Top quality cookware and all utensils needed for home cooking are available.

The dinning table seats eight and like every area of the home has a terrific view.

Decks to either side of the house provide a relaxing place to take in the views. Enjoy morning coffee or the beautiful sunsets.

Excellent Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

The owner was very nice, and great to deal with. He went out of his way to answer all of our questions and make sure we had fishing gear, bikes, and boots to use. The house is in a great location with fantastic views of the glacier, and just a little further up the road past the boat launch was a great fishing spot with easy access. I think my family caught over 15 salmon in just a few evenings. The house was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The beds and bedding were very comfortable, and the bedrooms were good size. The only partial negative was that the master bathroom was not closed off from the rest of the bedroom and it was not very private, but the master overall was very pretty with big windows to look out over the channel and to the glacier. We would definitively stay here again if we return to Juneau. One of the best vacation rentals we have stayed in.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave comments on your stay. We are so glad you enjoyed staying at Kingfisher Guest House. Your family is definitely in running for the most fish caught prize! We enjoy hearing of the good time times families and other groups have at our house. It is a special place. We hope you have a chance to stay with us again. Bob

Vice nice place outside of Juneau

  • 4 of 5

Our extended family really enjoyed our stay here. The location is every bit as scenic as the pictures suggest, The house was sunny and bright, and each of the four bedrooms were large and comfortable. As the listing shows, it's a bit out of the way - about 10-15 minutes from downtown Juneau and 25 minutes from the airport, but it was incredibly peaceful and we felt the location was perfect.

Some things that could be more accurate in the listing: The bicycles mentioned in the listing had flat tires and the owners were unable to address that problem. Cleaning fees are quite steep, though the place was very clean. We also would have preferred a more typical "take some, leave some" approach to cooking staples like spices and oil, rather than the "we'll charge for what you take" policy that was on the fridge door.

All in all, we were quite happy with our time here.

Owner's Response: Hi Cory, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of the home. Glad you liked the locations and cleanliness of the house, we do try to keep it as nice as we can. I am sorry about the bikes, I was out of town and could not respond, however I believe a friend came out and got them road worthy before your departure. As for charges for what is used, I am not sure what you mean. We do leave some staples such as spices and cooking oils, paper towels, coffee filters in the kitchen and provide laundry and dish soap but we never charge for them. There should not have been any note saying we do. Sorry for any misunderstanding. We hope you enjoyed your Alaska Vacation, Bob and Carrie--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Cory, I just visited the home for the first time since I read your review, and owe you an apology. I had agreed to buy groceries for a guest prior to your stay (see the review below) and added the "pay for the supplies" note to the bottom of the WiFi password and contact numbers note on the fridge. I should have discarded it. Again, my apologies Bob

Amazing home with even better views

  • 5 of 5

This was a large family vacation to Alaska and found this home to have everything we needed or could have asked for. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Bob went out of his way by picking up some breakfast supplies for the morning; as we arrived late and were tired. Everything worked and we had no issues....except we had to leave. This home is so comfortable with breath taking views, we wish we could have stayed another week. Close to Juneau but our far enough to feel secluded and away from tourist crowds. We want to come back.
