Andalusian farmhouse accommodation with swimming pool in private countryside

Bedrooms 1
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Romantic & private setting for a couple looking to relax in the countryside

'La Paz' offers comfortable, rustic studio accommodation at a traditional Andalusian hillside farmhouse set in 5 acres of private land amidst almond and olive trees. This tranquil retreat enjoys far reaching mountain views from a South facing location; perfect for relaxing by the pool in one of the sunniest parts of Europe.

The farmhouse or 'finca' has been beautifully restored while retaining original rustic features including heavily beamed ceilings, tiled floors and wooden shuttered windows. These combine with modern comforts to provide a private setting in the countryside yet within a short 15 minute drive of the nearest village, Comares, and 45 min to the coast. Around the pool are several terraces (illuminated at night) sunny and shaded, where there is ample space for alfresco dining, enjoying a BBQ and unwinding on the loungers.

Comares, a beautiful hilltop village, offers good facilities incl. a village shop, pharmacy, bank with cash machine & several bar/restaurants.Nearby hamlet Los Ventorros has 2 excellent bar/restaurants serving meals and tasty tapas!

Local lifestyle: 'La Paz' is located in a very rural and much unchanged part of Southern Andalusia. Local life here is unhurried and relaxed. You can still find mules used for carrying sacks of olives or almonds through the hill farms to the villages. And when driving from 'La Paz' towards the coast the country road passes through acres of citrus fruit trees and avocados.

'La Paz' is a beautiful location for country walks. From the door of the Farmhouse Studio there are miles of tracks to walk - well away from cars and the bustle of everyday life. Spring and Autumn are perfect walking times. In summertime you may want only to relax by the pool with a cooling swim before lunch on the terrace.

Local facilities: Don´t be surprised to pass a herd of goats on your way up the hill to 'Comares' located at around 800 meters above sea level. This charming 'pueblo blanco', with it´s narrow winding streets, is the highest hilltop village in the Axarquia region with fantastic views all the way to the coast.

Comares and the hamlet of 'Los Ventorros' (10 min from La Paz) will provide you with a number of small village shops, bars, simple restaurants and banks (one with cash dispenser) to make your stay comfortable. Town facilities including a modern shopping center, cinemas, market and water park are located in Velez Malaga - some 40 min drive. Torre del Mar beach resort is 5 minutes further with many beach cafes, seafood restaurants and a wide selection of entertainment. Golf, Go karting and water sports are nearby.

Exploring Andalusia: 'La Paz' is the perfect rural base to explore the most popular sights of Andalusia: Granada and the Alhambra Palace are just 90 minutes drive - with the Sierra Nevada ski resort a short drive from Granada city center. Seville can be reached in 2 hours by car - well worth the effort! Cordoba and Ronda are beautiful and a similar distance. Nerja and the world famous caves is a one hour drive and Malaga, with it´s culture, including the Picasso museum, beaches and great shopping facilities is a one hour drive through the 'Montes de Malaga' national park.

About Carl Cullimore

We, Carl and Maria Cullimore, came to Comares in 1999 with the idea of buying a holiday home…and we are still here!

We continue to be thrilled by the views and beautiful, colourful landscape of Andalusia. The white washed village of Comares is both unique and unspoiled yet only an hour from Malaga. The perfect rural base to relax and explore.

La Paz, our finca meaning “peace” was renovated and a swimming pool was built on the hillside. We converted part of the farmhouse to a self contained studio overlooking the pool and our holiday rentals idea became a reality when we welcomed our first guests in 2002.

Our next project was Villa Romo, spacious accommodation with pool and popular with families. Friends owning properties locally and wishing to rent their villas for holidays have entrusted us with the keys and management responsibilities.

We are proud to showcase a small, quality selection of individual villas, beach houses apartments and even a seaside Fisherman’s Cottage. We provide a professional, bespoke service which can include the rental marketing and maintenance of holiday properties in the Axarquia region of Andalusia.

A holiday destination with a difference

  • 5 of 5

A real out of the way destination with a difference. We spent two weeks at La Paz in September 2017 and found it to be a great destination up in the hills above Malaga. you get a taste of real Spain. La paz is well equipped and comfortable, and Carl and Maria are nothing short of enthusiastic and helpful and are there when, and if, you need them for advise and recommendations, whether for places to eat and drink or places to visit . Nearby is the friendly stunning hilltop village of Comeras somewhere for a drink something to eat and to explore. We explored the area a little and loved driving the twisty mountain roads. All we can really say is its a great destination if your looking to escape and absorb yourself in a little of the real Spain . Thanks again Carl and Maria...

Beautiful and peacful

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place if you want to have a quiet, relaxing holiday. Carl and Maria are great hosts. There if you need them but also the privacy as well. Their directions to the house were great as it is quite remote. The pool is much needed in the hot weather and we had it all to ourselves. The studio is small but has everything you need and Maria had left us a fridge with essentials and of course wine and beer! A very nice touch. I would love to go back in the spring or or Autumn so as to do more walking. The scenery is stunning. Three very nice resturants in Los Ventorros and Comares which is beautiful. Thank you Carl , Maria and Tommy (the dog, cannot forget you )

La Paz - peace and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Paz for a week at the end of June after a week's tour of classical Andalucia which was fairly gruelling in temperatures of 35 C plus. So La Paz was just what we needed for rest and relaxation. The property certainly lived up to expectations and the studio was charming in it's simplicity. But it was the pool that was the highlight, lovely and warm and of a good size with plenty of shady sitting areas.

La Paz is set in wonderful countryside with great views. So peaceful with only birdsong and maybe dogs barking up the hill.

Los Venterros is the nearest village and has a couple of good bar/ restaurants. One night we had a very good meal at Table Mountain.

Carl and Maria were charming hosts and most helpful. We arrived fairly late on the first evening and not having passed any shops on the way we were lacking in provisions. We needn't have worried as Carl and Maria had very thoughtfully provided basic ingredients for a meal with beer and wine in the fridge.

We must not forget Tommy, the dog, who was always there to welcome us when we came back in.

We really hope to visit La Paz again next year. We can thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering staying there.

Paradise with a view

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent just over 2 weeks at La Paz in March of this year (2017), we thought that from the photo's we knew exactly what to expect. We arrived in the dark so had no idea the overwhelming beauty of the place, the photo's in no way give you the full experience.

It is only a small studio but hell is it really nice, you have everything you need to make your stay perfect, even a few english TV channels if you must, that can be watched from the very comfortable bed. The outside areas are nothing short of splendid, with seats to relax and enjoy the sun and the countryside views from every possible angle. The pool area is especially pleasant with tables, chairs and sun beds a plenty.

Carl and Maria, the owners are without doubt 2 of the most pleasant and helpful people we have ever met, nothing is too much trouble, they are there when you need them and leave you in piece when you don't. Big thanks Carl for the help over the puncture and the scratches, I don't know what we would have done without you. Not forgetting the new friend anyone visiting will make and that's Tommy, Carl and Maria's dog, the quietest and friendliest dog you could ever wish to meet. All in all we would give La Paz the full 5 Stars of recommendation

away from the crowds

  • 4 of 5

Me and my wife were Maria's en Carl's guests for a week in May 2016. We had a great time in our small studio with a nice pool and a view that was really beautiful. It takes about 30 min by car tot get down to the coast and the action. If you can handle that, you get a charming low-profile place in the hills with some nice villages around and very friendly hosts. Very recommendable.

Just what the Doctor Ordered.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at La Paz at the begging of October 2016. When I first seen La Paz advertised it looked like the ideal place for us in the country side.

When we arrived the weather was still in the low to mid twenties for October and very sunny, We did have evening lighting storm which was spectacular.

La Paz certainly lived up to my expectations and found it to be a lovely and peaceful place to relax and pass the time away especially around the pool which we would swim in morning and night. The surrounding country side is very beautiful and good for walking and the locals are very friendly, but remember to take some water with you.

We had a hired vehicle and found getting to La Paz quite easy and found the last part of the journey through the winding tracks a little unusual but you soon get used to it. But if you are looking for that peace and tranquilly you find the drive rewarding.

I found the area spectacular and exploring the surrounding regions from La Paz such as Nerja, Malaga, Granada, Cordoba very easy.

Comares the nearest town sitting on top a small mountain which has spectacular view especially from the local cemetery It has all your local amenities shops, chemists, doctors , restaurants. We would recommend visiting many of the regions restaurant as we had many great meals at a very reasonable cost.

La Paz is a ideal place for a base for those who want to explore or even for those looking at moving to that region.

I would also like to say thank's again to Maria and Carl and not forgetting Tommy for making our stay a pleasurable experience. They gave us piece and quite and even though they live next door you would not know they where there. I would recommend speaking to Carl If you need information regards to exploring the area and maybe he would lend you his well used regional Map that help us travel so well around the regions amazing country side.

We would recommend La Paz as a wonderful place to stay. L&M xx
