Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Comares - La Paz Farmhouse Studio

Romantic & private setting for a couple looking to relax in the countryside

'La Paz' offers comfortable, rustic studio accommodation at a traditional Andalusian hillside farmhouse set in 5 acres of private land amidst almond and olive trees. This tranquil retreat enjoys far reaching mountain views from a South facing location; perfect for relaxing by the pool in one of the sunniest parts of Europe.

The farmhouse or 'finca' has been beautifully restored while retaining original rustic features including heavily beamed ceilings, tiled floors and wooden shuttered windows. These combine with modern comforts to provide a private setting in the countryside yet within a short 15 minute drive of the nearest village, Comares, and 45 min to the coast. Around the pool are several terraces (illuminated at night) sunny and shaded, where there is ample space for alfresco dining, enjoying a BBQ and unwinding on the loungers.

Comares, a beautiful hilltop village, offers good facilities incl. a village shop, pharmacy, bank with cash machine & several bar/restaurants.Nearby hamlet Los Ventorros has 2 excellent bar/restaurants serving meals and tasty tapas!

Local lifestyle: 'La Paz' is located in a very rural and much unchanged part of Southern Andalusia. Local life here is unhurried and relaxed. You can still find mules used for carrying sacks of olives or almonds through the hill farms to the villages. And when driving from 'La Paz' towards the coast the country road passes through acres of citrus fruit trees and avocados.

'La Paz' is a beautiful location for country walks. From the door of the Farmhouse Studio there are miles of tracks to walk - well away from cars and the bustle of everyday life. Spring and Autumn are perfect walking times. In summertime you may want only to relax by the pool with a cooling swim before lunch on the terrace.

Local facilities: Don´t be surprised to pass a herd of goats on your way up the hill to 'Comares' located at around 800 meters above sea level. This charming 'pueblo blanco', with it´s narrow winding streets, is the highest hilltop village in the Axarquia region with fantastic views all the way to the coast.

Comares and the hamlet of 'Los Ventorros' (10 min from La Paz) will provide you with a number of small village shops, bars, simple restaurants and banks (one with cash dispenser) to make your stay comfortable. Town facilities including a modern shopping center, cinemas, market and water park are located in Velez Malaga - some 40 min drive. Torre del Mar beach resort is 5 minutes further with many beach cafes, seafood restaurants and a wide selection of entertainment. Golf, Go karting and water sports are nearby.

Exploring Andalusia: 'La Paz' is the perfect rural base to explore the most popular sights of Andalusia: Granada and the Alhambra Palace are just 90 minutes drive - with the Sierra Nevada ski resort a short drive from Granada city center. Seville can be reached in 2 hours by car - well worth the effort! Cordoba and Ronda are beautiful and a similar distance. Nerja and the world famous caves is a one hour drive and Malaga, with it´s culture, including the Picasso museum, beaches and great shopping facilities is a one hour drive through the 'Montes de Malaga' national park.

About Carl Cullimore

We, Carl and Maria Cullimore, came to Comares in 1999 with the idea of buying a holiday home…and we are still here!

We continue to be thrilled by the views and beautiful, colourful landscape of Andalusia. The white washed village of Comares is both unique and unspoiled yet only an hour from Malaga. The perfect rural base to relax and explore.

La Paz, our finca meaning “peace” was renovated and a swimming pool was built on the hillside. We converted part of the farmhouse to a self contained studio overlooking the pool and our holiday rentals idea became a reality when we welcomed our first guests in 2002.

Our next project was Villa Romo, spacious accommodation with pool and popular with families. Friends owning properties locally and wishing to rent their villas for holidays have entrusted us with the keys and management responsibilities.

We are proud to showcase a small, quality selection of individual villas, beach houses apartments and even a seaside Fisherman’s Cottage. We provide a professional, bespoke service which can include the rental marketing and maintenance of holiday properties in the Axarquia region of Andalusia.

As relaxing as it gets!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks at La Paz in early August. We were looking for somewhere which would be peaceful and most importantly a holiday property with its own pool. Well, we got that and much more than we could ever wish for.

My first words to Maria and Carl when we arrived at La Paz was that the photos on this website don't do it justice. The surrounding countryside is spectacular, the pool is incredible and the accommodation is exactly what you need with a well-sized living quarters, excellent bathroom and cooking facilities and even a bit of UK TV thrown in for good measure!

Many people claim the drive to La Paz, along winding tracks, is a bit intimidating. But for us it was all part of the experience and we got used to it no time. Basically, for the levels of peace and quiet you're going to get, such drives are necessary.

We found it easy to explore the surrounding region, we made day-trips to Granada, Cordoba, Malaga and Nerja. But the little village of Los Ventorros was always good for a sneaky beer or two and the mountain top town of Comares is spectacular, has a decent supermarket and some nice places to eat.

Last but not least, a word or two about our hosts, Maria and Carl. They were absolutely perfect and made us feel completely welcome throughout our stay. Like many other guests have said, they never intrude on your privacy yet are always around to help you with any queries you may have. We really enjoyed meeting them, sharing stories, travel tips, cooking tips and the occasional drink!

And why not finish by mentioning La Paz's most famous residents, Mottie and Jeanie - two of the most fantastic, entertaining and kind-hearted dogs we've ever had the pleasure to meet. The lazy afternoons in or by the pool were always made more entertaining by the odd game of football with Mottie or by Jeanie's funny smiling face. I'm not the biggest lover of dogs, but it's impossible to not love this pair.

If it's a relaxing break, far away from the madness of city life you're after, then this is one of the best places you can go to.

Thanks Carl and Maria, for an unforgettable holiday!

Owner's Response: It was a delight to meet Steve & Claudia and swop some travel stories. With 2 weeks at La Paz they were able to chill out and enjoy the facilities and make use of the central Andalucian location to visit some of the key sights Southern Spain has to offer. After a day trip out to the city it was always pleasing to see them relaxing by the swimming pool with a cold drink! We look forward to seeing them back at La Paz in the future?! Carl.

Just what the Doctor Ordered.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at La Paz at the begging of October 2016. When I first seen La Paz advertised it looked like the ideal place for us in the country side.

When we arrived the weather was still in the low to mid twenties for October and very sunny, We did have evening lighting storm which was spectacular.

La Paz certainly lived up to my expectations and found it to be a lovely and peaceful place to relax and pass the time away especially around the pool which we would swim in morning and night. The surrounding country side is very beautiful and good for walking and the locals are very friendly, but remember to take some water with you.

We had a hired vehicle and found getting to La Paz quite easy and found the last part of the journey through the winding tracks a little unusual but you soon get used to it. But if you are looking for that peace and tranquilly you find the drive rewarding.

I found the area spectacular and exploring the surrounding regions from La Paz such as Nerja, Malaga, Granada, Cordoba very easy.

Comares the nearest town sitting on top a small mountain which has spectacular view especially from the local cemetery It has all your local amenities shops, chemists, doctors , restaurants. We would recommend visiting many of the regions restaurant as we had many great meals at a very reasonable cost.

La Paz is a ideal place for a base for those who want to explore or even for those looking at moving to that region.

I would also like to say thank's again to Maria and Carl and not forgetting Tommy for making our stay a pleasurable experience. They gave us piece and quite and even though they live next door you would not know they where there. I would recommend speaking to Carl If you need information regards to exploring the area and maybe he would lend you his well used regional Map that help us travel so well around the regions amazing country side.

We would recommend La Paz as a wonderful place to stay. L&M xx

So chilled

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely holiday at La Paz. The Studio was perfect for two. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Situated in the mountains about a ten minute drive to the nearest village where there is a lovely little bar/restaurant called El Molina. The studio had everything we needed to allow us to enjoy our break. The pool is plenty big enough and the poolside bar is genius. There are numerous places to sit around the property so we would have breakfast with one fantastic view, lunch with another and another for dinner (having used the fantastic BBQ).

Comares is about a 20 minute drive away and well worth a visit. As is a trip to Torre del mar, about 45 minutes drive to a fine beach and shopping galore. But the real star of the holiday is the studio and property itself. It makes you relax completely the minute you arrive and we would highly recommend it if that's what you're looking for. The hosts, Maria and Carl we're brilliant, welcoming and friendly. They were there if you needed them, but kept out of the way when you didn't. All in all we would love to go back and are highly recommending it. Happy holidays!!!

Lovely little house in the hills

  • 4 of 5

Loved staying at this little hideaway in the hills! This was the perfect getaway from it all. Cosy little studio for 2 with friendly owners and friendly dogs! We had a lovely time relaxing by the pool, mixing G&T's at the bar, BBQ'ing fish and generally doing nothing. We even managed to drag ourselves away from the pool to explore Granada and the Alhambra. Would recommend this place for those who don't mind a long bumpy drive to get to it! Its well worth the effort :)

Our 'Happy Place' - 3rd visit !

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to La Paz and it certainly won't be our last. The studio itself it lovely and clean, it's big enough for two people to have a lovely romantic stay and the bed is REALLY comfortable. The first time we visited La Paz it was our first holiday together, the second time my fiancee proposed to me and this time we enjoyed spending time together away from the rest of the world! It is a place we will always re-visit. The scenery is simply stunning, there is an outside bar and fridge, so you don't need to move far from your sun lounger to grab a beer or a vino, there is also outside speakers so you can play music, although we prefer the tranquillity and sound of nature. The BBQ is lovely, but if you want to venture out Table Mountain is a short drive and the food and wine is excellent, the staff are really friendly and speak excellent English, but were more than happy for me to try out my Spanish skills on them. In Comares village there is a small shop, which stocks pretty much everything that you will need, and whenever we go to the village we admire the views from the square and remember the romantic proposal I received back in November. They do the best coffee in the world at the little bar - and a great Bacon & Tomato Sandwich ! All in all we love La Paz - when I need to think of my 'Happy Place' it's lying on a lilo at La Paz. Carl & Maria, thank you for a lovely stay, and a great night out at Table Mountain. Love and tickles to Tommy Dog - my legs are still recovering from the endless walks we enjoyed with him. Echamos de menos todos - Besos xxx
