The well known market town of Stow-on-the-Wold and the beautiful village of Bourton-on-the-Water are both within six miles, with their wide range of pubs, shops and restaurants. Naunton is also ideally located for exploring the wider Cotswolds region and beyond, including famous places such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Blenheim Palace.

This lovely cottage has many character features, including oak beams, a stone fireplace with a wood burning stove, and solid wooden doors. The traditional character is complemented by modern facilities, including a Smart TV, fast wireless internet access and a well presented kitchen.

House Rules

Booking and payment:

Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the cottages listed on our website. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Security deposits:

Security deposits are not required (please note that guests are still liable for any damage or additional cleaning required as a result of their actions).

The maximum occupancy of the property is four guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than four guests at the property.

Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by one additional infant.

One medium sized dog is accepted, at a cost of £20 per booking. We do ask you to ensure that dogs never stray onto the neighbouring properties - please note that there is no boundary fence to the garden.

For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure. We also ask that dogs are never left alone in the property.

Bed linen and towels:

Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.

Arrival and departure times:

Arrival time is after 3pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

Family bathroom: Bath with handheld shower attachment, wash basin and toilet

Heating, fuel and logs:

The property has an electric central heating system and electricity is included in the rental price.

An initial basket of logs is provided for the wood burning stove and further log supplies can be obtained from the wood store (with an honesty box for the cost of logs).

Services provided:

The property has free fast wireless internet access and a Smart TV with a Blu-Ray/DVD/CD player. For the sake of our neighbours, we ask you please to avoid loud music late in the evenings.

There is no telephone at the property.

Mobile phone reception is generally OK.

The property has a private parking area for one average sized car. Additional quiet street parking is available close to the property.

Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services may be available on request.

Child friendly facilities:

A travel cot (without linen) and a safety gate are provided. A highchair is available upon request.

Initial consumables:

A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.

Accessibility, health and safety:

This property has many character features, including several steps leading up to the front door, narrow and steep stairs, some very low beams, and sloping ceilings, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.

The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.

No smoking is permitted throughout the property.

In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas.

If you have any queries regarding the size of any rooms or spaces, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Beautiful old cottage

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Dove Cottage. It was very comfortable and was well equipped and in a lovely Cotswold village. The local pub was friendly and we enjoyed a great meal there.

Compact, clean and well stocked

  • 4 of 5

A newish property with all parts working. Kitchen is well stocked for arrival incl milk and bottle of fizz. Had a slight issue with entry which got sorted on its own and owner came around next day which was very kind. Cute village with friendly locals at the local pub. Cottage has many levels and eaves so not for anyone with even minor mobility issues. Only blip was that ground floor had very cold stone floor but the moment you went upstairs it became too warm. Most windows cant be opened so it could get uncomfortable at night. This was a sunny May bank holiday weekend. Small garden but very well kept. Would recommend

Owner's Response: ""Character Cottages, as a marketing agency, does not look after or maintain any cottages. The following is written by the owner of Dove Cottage: "“Many thanks for your comments. I’m slightly puzzled however, as every window in the cottage does in fact open. We will try to make that more obvious for future guests. It was very hot that weekend, so the thermostat would have switched off the underfloor heating downstairs when you arrived, but the guest instructions do explain how to raise the temperature there further if you would like to.”"

Other Activities:

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the "Heart of England". The name Cotswold means "sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides".

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

Car: Naunton is easily accessed by car, being located approximately 4 miles away from the A429 (Fosse Way) and approximately 6 miles away from the A40, which are two of the main roads running through the North Cotswolds.

Train: The nearest railway station to Naunton is Kingham (approximately 10 miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of less than 90 minutes. There is no taxi rank at Kingham station, so it is worth pre-booking a taxi, if required.

Plane: Naunton is within easy reach of a number of international airports: Birmingham International Airport: 50 miles, approximately 70 minute drive; Heathrow International Airport: 78 miles, approximately 100 minute drive.
