About the property

Halfway House (Broadway) - a house that sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

Welcome to Halfway House, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish Cotswold holiday rentals.

Please click More Details to read about the House Rules.

Halfway House is a stunning Grade II listed property, which is believed to have been part of a coaching inn dating back to the mid-18th century. The cottage enjoys a peaceful location, yet is just moments away from the centre of the historic market town of Broadway, with its wide range of art galleries, restaurants and pubs. The famed Cotswold Way walking path is also close by, as are many other scenic walks, and Broadway is well located for exploring all the lovely towns and villages of the North Cotswolds, as well as places such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick Castle and the dreaming spires of Oxford.

This lovely Cotswold stone cottage has a wealth of character features, including exposed Cotswold stone walls, oak beams and two wood burning stoves. The character of the cottage is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, four TVs and a well presented kitchen.

Halfway House sleeps six people, in three bedrooms, with three ensuite bathrooms. There is a small garden at the front of the cottage and there are two allocated off-street parking spaces. Halfway House is ideal for a family with older children, or a group of friends seeking a relaxing break in one of the Cotswolds' loveliest towns.

The security deposit is payable prior to arrival at the property, via a bank transfer or a valid debit or credit card.

Occupancy:

The maximum occupancy of the property is six guests at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than six guests at the property.

Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by one additional infant.

Other Activities:

Broadway is a beautiful village in the North Cotswolds, steeped in history and surrounded by stunning countryside. The village gets its name from the wide street, or broad way, that runs through the centre which was once the main road from Worcester to London.

This attractive High Street is bordered with chestnut trees and honey coloured stone cottages dating from the 16th century and is one of the most picturesque villages of the Cotswolds. The broad way is thought to be especially wide because at one time there used to be streams running each side of the main drive. These streams were eventually hidden in underground pipes where they would emerge at 'dipping' points, but sadly they are now almost completely invisible.

The village has artistic links with famous dwellers including J.M. Barrie, Mary Anderson and William Morris, who were drawn to the tranquillity of Broadway. It was here that Morris and John Ruskin pioneered the idea of the Arts and Crafts Movement which made its home in the area and went on to be an international movement.

One of the iconic features of the village is Broadway Tower which was built in the late 18th century by the Earl of Coventry. It is said that the tower was erected so that the Countess could see if her Cotswold estate was visible from Croome Court in Worcestershire, which it was. The folly stands some 1,024 feet above sea level, making it the second highest point in the Cotswolds after Cleeve Hill. In fact, on a clear day, visitors are able to see 14 counties from the top! William Morris was so taken by the tower that he went on to establish the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings in 1877.

Car: Broadway is easily accessed by car, being located close to the A44, one of the main roads through the North Cotswolds.

Train: The nearest railway station to Broadway is Evesham (approximately 7 miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of approximately two hours.

Plane: Broadway is within easy reach of a number of international airports: Birmingham International Airport: 39 miles, approximately 60 minute drive; Heathrow International Airport: 86 miles, approximately 100 minute drive.
