Halfway House is an impressive former merchant's house and is one of the oldest buildings on the high street of the historic village of Blockley. This peaceful and picturesque village benefits from having two pubs and a community owned village shop & cafe, as well as a historic Norman church in the centre of the village. Numerous beautiful country walks are accessible directly from the village and Blockley is well located for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds, as well as further afield places, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Blenheim Palace and Oxford.
The house has been lovingly refurbished by its owner to create a warm and welcoming home, which retains many character features, including an impressive central stair case, elm floors, exposed Cotswold stone walls and two stone fireplaces, one of which contains a wood burning stove. The traditional character of the building has been complemented by the elegant décor and modern facilities, including wireless internet access, three Smart TVs and a well presented kitchen.
Halfway House sleeps 10 people in five bedrooms, with four bathrooms. There are lovely views across Blockley valley from the upper floors and there is a pretty tiered garden at the rear of the property, which is perfect for relaxing in. Free on street parking is available oustside or close to the house. Halfway House is perfect for a large family or a group of friends seeking a relaxing break in a stunning property, in the heart of one of the Cotswold's most picturesque villages.
Booking and payment:
Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the cottages listed on our website. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.
For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.
All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.
A security deposit of £200 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit. The security deposit is payable prior to arrival at the property, via a bank transfer or a valid debit or credit card.
The maximum occupancy of the property, including its grounds, is 10 guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than 10 guests at the property.
Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by up to two additional infants.
Up to two medium sized dogs are accepted, at a cost of £20 per booking per dog.
For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure.
Bed linen and towels:
Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.
Arrival and departure times:
Arrival time is after 4pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

Shower room (ground floor): Walk-in shower with rain shower and separate shower attachment, heated towel rail, toilet and wash basin
Master bedroom ensuite (first floor): Double ended slipper bath with handheld shower attachment, heated towel rail, toilet and wash basin
Bedroom 2 ensuite (first floor): Walk-in shower, heated towel rail, toilet and wash basin
Heating, fuel and logs:
The property has a gas central heating system, with underfloor heating in the kitchen and ground floor shower room.
Electricity and gas are included in the rental price. An initial basket of logs is provided for the wood burning stove and further log supplies can be purchased locally.
The property has free wireless internet access, three Smart TVs, and a DAB digital radio.
There is no telephone at the property.
Blockley is in a valley and guests should be aware that mobile phone reception can be very poor.
Free on-street parking is available outside the property.
Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services may be available on request.
Child friendly facilities:
A travel cot (without linen) and high chair are provided.
The property's garden is enclosed, however young children should be supervised outside at all times due to the steep terraced layout.
A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these
provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.
Accessibility, health and safety:
This is an old, Grade II listed property, which is laid out over three floors, has sloping ceilings in the second floor rooms, and steps into some rooms, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.
The tiered garden is on a steep slope, and children should be supervised outside at all times.
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.
No smoking is permitted throughout the property.
Hen and Stag Parties:
Hen and Stag Parties are not permitted.
Halfway House is located in the centre of the quiet village of Blockley, and has neighbours to both sides and to the rear. It is important to the owners that guests are courteous and considerate towards the neighbouring properties, and understand that when exiting the property and using the garden they should behave in a reasonable manner, which does not disturb the neighbours. The property is very suitable for large families or groups, and for entertaining, however it is not a party venue.
Please note that the garden at Halfway House is maintained by a local Gardening company. The gardeners tends to the garden area twice a week throughout the year, and it may be less frequent during the winter months. This is essential work in order to keep the property's outside space looking as presentable as possible, although the majority of the work does not require the use of power tools, such as a hedge trimmer or lawn mower, there may be times were they are required. Whilst the gardeners hours are flexible they cannot provide advanced notice of their schedule and will not require access to the inside of the property.
In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas.
