Overview

About the property

Perched above the River Lot in the Midi-Pyrenees, this delightful gîte, converted in 2006, is the ideal place to explore the beautiful scenery of the Lot, Aveyron and Cele valleys. The property has its own private garden and a secluded wild woodland area with plenty of places to sit and relax. The bustling small town of Cajarc, with its Saturday afternoon market, shops, cafes and restaurants is only 3 km away.

The main door of the gite opens into a large farmhouse style kitchen diner with a range cooker and there is a separate sitting room with TV, DVD player and Wifi.

An open tread staircase leads to a landing which gives access to the large main bedroom with king size bed and a gallery bedroom with two single beds. The washroom has a toilet, walk-in shower, basin and bidet.

Outside, at the rear is a spacious deck with table and chairs; a garden with sun loungers and a steep path that leads to the small private woods with secluded seating areas and views of the River Lot. A charcoal barbecue is available. There is parking space for two cars on the upper level. There is also a deck on the upper level with views over the Lot valley. Because of the open tread staircase and several unfenced drops on the property, Le Coustal is not suitable for toddlers.

Cajarc is on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela and there are picturesque and historic mediaeval towns within easy reach such as Cahors, St Cirq la Popie, Figeac and Villefranche de Rouergue. A little further away is the breathtaking cave complex of Gouffre de Padirac and the spectacular clifftop town of Rocamadour.

About John (Peter) and Lyn Byford

We originate from near Southend-on-Sea in Essex. In 1995, we moved permanently to France, firstly to Normandy, where we already had a holiday home. After spending the Summer months in France and the Winter months in our caravan in Spain and Portugal, we decided to relocate to the Lot in 2001, a decision we are glad we made.

John (Peter) and Lyn Byford purchased this barn in 2001

Why John (Peter) and Lyn Byford chose World

After looking at many properties, Le Coustal was the ideal place for us; located in Gaillac, a friendly hamlet (not to be confused with the large town of the same name) and near to the charming town of Cajarc with its shops, bars and restaurants.

What makes this barn unique

Le Coustal is surrounded by hills and has views over the River Lot and the Lot valley. There are easy walks round the hamlet of Gaillac and many more challenging ones in the area. Part of the property is wooded and mostly left to nature because there are badgers, red squirrels and other wildlife who share the woods with us.

A Lot to enjoy

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable, well equipped property with very helpful and informative owners. The area is absolutely wonderful to visit. There are so many towns, villages and other sites to see within 1 hours drive. Good selection of restaurants within a 5 minute drive, as are all essential amenities.

A great find in the Lot department!

  • 5 of 5

Lyn & Peter were a wonderful couple, who made us feel at home straight away...despite us arriving late evening due to our flight time. Lyn & Peter were very helpful and very kind. The gîte itself is located in a lovely area, providing peace and tranquility, but with the advantage of being a 5 minute drive to all the local amenities in nearby Cajarc. The garden is a delight, and the balcony is great to sit out on whilst enjoying your morning coffee and croissants, and also your meal in the evening with a glass of wine! I would not hesitate to recommend this gîte...a great find.

Lovely Gite with friendly British owners

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding decor in all rooms. Kitchen diner is large and spacious and sitting room is brightly lit by the large curved window in the front. Lovely wooden beams and roof lining gives high ceilings in the two delightful bedrooms, especially in the stunning main bedroom.

We have stayed in France many times but the owners (and neighbours) were the best ever.

A brilliant two weeks in a lovely part of the world.

Lovely hill top setting on edge of small village (no shops). A couple of miles from Carjac which had great restaurants, shops and info. The owners were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. A wonderful, peaceful location and ideal for exploring the local area.

Un département à découvrir à partir d'un gite très agréable

  • 5 of 5

Une belle grange restaurée avec goût. Des propriétaires très sympathiques et à notre disposition tout en étant très discret. Une location où il ne manque rien et pourtant nous cuisinons même en vacances !
