Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Au Train - Robins Nest

Robins Nest 2 Bedroom Cottage on the AuTrain River. Accommodates up to 6 guests

Conveniently located in the heart of the upper peninsula just minutes from Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior, dozens of waterfalls and endless outdoor activities and adventures. My Cottages are located in a private association that is quiet and beautiful. There is about a 100 yards of river frontage to enjoy and relax next to. Cottages range from one bedroom to 4 bedrooms and can accommodate from one to 10 guests. Each Cottage has all amenities included like towels, linens and cooking supplies.

The Robins Nest cottage is completely redesigned. The interior is all pine and the layout is spacious. There is a dining area, and large living room to accommodate guests. This cottage is perfect for 2-4 people but can accommodate up to 6.

Included in your stay is a gas grill with propane, a canoe with all necessary paddles and life vests and WiFi. Launching of the canoe is on site and shuttle service is available. A fishing boat w/motor and kayaks are available to you on site for a discounted rate. Mooring your own boat is a possibility, contact me for details.

The Autrain River provides excellent swimming, and canoeing as well as simple relaxation as it winds 7 miles through the Hiawatha National Forest. Further down river puts you into Lake Superior and quite possibly the best beach on all of Lake Superior. Up river is the beautiful Autrain Lake which provides a wonderful place to enjoy water sports, fishing or just a relaxing cruise. Bass, Walleye or Pike are your most commonly fished.

Pictured Rocks Cruise is only 12 miles away and there are over a dozen waterfalls within a 30 mile radius. The National Lakeshore provides days worth of outdoor activities. I have seen nearly everything in this area and am a great resource during your stay. I will meet with you when you are and give you advice about the area and things you will enjoy during your vacation.

About Cory Cole

I am a wealth of knowledge when it comes to exploring our area, I am an avid outdoors-man, I camp, hike, bike, ski, snowshoe, ATV, motorcycle, snowmobile and Jeep nearly the entire U.P. and if you have heard of it, chances are I've been there, or done that. I also know some places 'off the radar' if you are looking to get away from the tourist areas. Just ask, I'll be happy to give you advice.

Cory Cole purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Cory Cole chose Upper Peninsula Michigan

I manage this property for my friends Cindy and Steve, they updated this property in 2013 and it is perfectly set up for couples or small families. This cottage is part of a private association with it's own river frontage. The property is the best on the river, it has a beautiful view, clean water with sandy bottom and plenty of space to relax. There are 10 cottages on this property (it was an old resort) I own/manage 7 of them for vacation rentals. I was a transplant to this area during high school years ago and left then came back. I couldn't stay away forever, this area is unlike any other. Sure there are beautiful places all over the country, but no matter where you are from, this place is special beyond words...Overall, if someone doesn't enjoy staying here, it would be a first.

What makes this cottage unique

It is within minutes of Lake Superior, one of the best beaches in all of Michigan, the Pictured Rocks, dozens of waterfalls, hundreds of miles of hiking trails, biking trails and ATV/snowmobiling trails. AuTrain lake is accessible by boat right from the cottages and has tons of opportunities.

Great location, well maintained and well stocked cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is in a community, around 7 to 10 other houses. Right on the river and 20 mins drive to Munising.

The cabin itself is pretty spacious with a well stocked kitchen, Wifi and Roku + a ton of DVDs to enjoy

Available canoe and life jackets was good (We could not use it as it was really cold)

The rooms, though do not have HVAC vents which was surprising and the bedding was okay. I would have liked a little more cleaner bedding but it was not terrible.

The only thing I was not happy was that the water in the kitchen and shower had an unpleasant metallic smell. There was a purified drinking water tank which was good.

Overall a good experience and a great place to enjoy Autumn

Thanks

Great location on the River! Quiet, Clean, Relaxing Vacation

  • 5 of 5

These cottages are centrally located whether you're visiting Pictured Rock, Tahquamenon Falls , sandy beaches, a casino or just making a quick trip to Munising! There's a great German deli ( I highly recommend) down the road. Also a party store that also has a little gas station. Cory provided great communication with us and was very accommodating. He even upgraded us to the Loft for no extra charge! The kitchen was stocked with , dinnerware, silverware, napkins, microwave, etc...just as advertised. There's also a nice grill outside to use. The location is great....the river is right out the front door! We loved it and so did our fur babies!! I would highly recommend this place and we will be back to canoe and kayak!! Absolutely no complaints :)

*****Cory~ I hope you enjoyed the Drone Pictures my husband sent you!*****

Too "rustic" for me.

  • 2 of 5

Bathroom needs major upgrade. Not very clean. Stains on ceilings. Ugh.

Kitchen ok and all mechanicals worked. Surely there are better places to stay.

Owner's Response: Surely there are! In your case, I recommend the Holiday Inn in Munising, I hear that it's very "non-rustic" since it's less than 15 years old. Plus during peak season such as the time you stayed, it's only 65% more per night than you paid here considering it's not rustic) Of course you don't get a stocked kitchen or river in front of you, but you do get a pool to share with others and of course a wonderful lobby.... Still I am disappointed that you said it wasn't very clean, because you failed to mention that to me when I came over and asked how everything was going. That's something we take very seriously and would have addressed the issue immediately had we known. I hope your future stays in the area are much better, just please take my advice and don't rent a cabin.

Comfortable and clean

  • 4 of 5

We were in the U P for a wedding. It was nice to come stay at a place that was comfortable and clean. It was really fun to use the canoe and kayak on the the river right outside our front door!

Au Train vaca May 2016

  • 5 of 5

Pleasantly cozy renovated little cabin, Just right for the 3 of us. Nice slate floors in the kitchen and bath. Very clean and neat.

Very quiet, very peaceful

40 ft from the river. Yes, the trout do come up this far and we saw dozens of them from one spot next to the cabin. Makes me wish I'd brought waders. I hear there's walleye upstream in the lake. I'll have to plan for that next time.

The cabin is centrally located for traveling or sightseeing just about anywhere -- and easy drive to Munising or Marquette, a little farther to Escanaba and two hours to Taquamenon Falls. Lots of waterfalls in the area. Pasty shop and a small grocery 2 minutes up the road with everything you need.

Absolutely no complaints about the cabin, and the others in the group look nice as well. Everything as advertised, very clean and neat, towels and linens provided, dishes and kitchen utensils -- just show up. Gas grill is on the front porch plus a small charcoal grill. Canoes in back.

We'll be back. Thanks to Cory for setting us up with a nice cabin.
